Hey all, just wondered if the prices were right on these items. A price check would be greatly appreciated!
1) BMW Performance CF Strut Bar
2) BMW Performance Intake
About 10,000 miles of wear on both items, and the intake has a small chip.

$500 for the bar and $300 for the intake. Does that sound reasonable or too much? It does have 10,000 miles on them....:eeps

Those are both good prices, they'll be gone pretty quickly.

I agree....these should go quick! Hurry up someone....there's another Performance cf strut bar for sale! :biggrin

strut bar price is solid. the intake though...i paid less than $300 for a brand new Performance Intake, but then again the price has more than doubled since then...still you're gonna need a new filter as well.

Intake is priced right, CF bar is priced great considering people sell them for $1000! Do it if you have the money - that's a rare upgrade and looks amazing!

It really is a shame BMW doesn't make it anymore. I'll try in the future to pick one up. I legit think it can increase the value of the car given its rarity and the fact that it's OE.

OE mods are great because they do not detract any value to the car. Plus, insurance has no idea the difference :)

I think you need to settle down on your modding Zell :)

You should become a purist like me.

Haha there are so many OE mods I want, I can't even tell you. As soon as I start working I fear that the mod bug is going to hit me D:

Beautiful items and prices both seem great.

Oh and thanks to Charlie for the 3:20am wakeup notification of this post... :rofl

**EDIT** So, seeing as how we have the intake out of the car, can you post a couple pics of the bottom/inside of it? When installed, it really looks the same as OEM, minus the extra little scoop thing... I'm curious as to the actual differences of this and the stock airbox...

Thanks in advance!

I was just trying to push my oem mentality on you.

Oh I know. I'm a purist to an extent. My favorite mods and fixes are ones made by BMW/OEM, not too big of a fan of aftermarket except for a few very select items.

Those items have no moving parts, so mileage should not be an issue. DHU ET! Just get a new air filter, and make sure the box isn't cracked.

There's a few pics of the guts here in this thread Jon. Completely different style and design of the filter itself. Replacement filters from BMW are kinda expensive but a Napa 6301 fits just fine for under $10.

The size of the MAF on the intake looks smaller than mine. Are you sure that's for a 3.0 liter?

EDIT: It looks like I misunderstood the OP. I thought you were thinking about buying these from someone rather than trying to sell them. :dunno

1) how much of a difference did you notice in the way the car drives after installing this?
2) what part of Socal are you in? I could do a direct pick up if we are in the same area.
3) why you selling?

webster

the bar does nothing aside from slight guard against strut tower mushrooming.

the intake adds maybe 3-4hp at the top end that you will probably never feel, but it sounds boomier and throatier than stock airbox above 3k rpm.

both look great and are only gonna be harder and harder to find (read: more $).

people sell because they realize they can get 2-3x what they paid for these items now and put that money into headers/coilovers/etc (or if they're getting rid of the car altogether, make a tidy profit).

NorCalZman
10-11-2012, 09:49 AM
well if the bar does nothing, thats a lot of money to pay for engine bay bling. haha. I guess Ill leave it as is, or buy a cheap m3 style bar. It sure is pretty though.

I wouldn't say it does nothing, as it does help prevent mushrooming, and that's no small thing. AFA handling, I don't know that you'd really feel it, but it certainly doesn't hurt. As I have a vert, I figured I have more chassis flex so more incentive to get one. Plus, it's AWESOME engine bling.

danewilson77

yes, but I wanted to re-emphasize that point as there was a post about it being a lot for engine bling.

I did say nothing. that was me. I SHOULD have said if it does nothing for steering feel, handling, chassis rigidity (beyond the strut towers), etc etc.

I installed one on my old Z and I could have sworn that those were all improved, at least slightly. I guess it was the placebo effect.

johnrando
10-11-2012, 11:07 AM
It's supposed to do those things, but my guess is that it would be on the track where you'd get the benefit. I might have the placebo effect too as after I put it on, there did seem to be a minor difference in certain situations, but I wouldn't swear to it in court.

i don't track my car, it's my DD and i live in a dense urban enviornment. i'm not taking corners at 40mph just to feel reduced chassis flex lol.

but it does look sexy as hell. shit, i have a CF stut bar from rogue that was $300 (not exactly cheap) but i did it more so for the mushroom protection. my shop noticed a *slight* bow on the pass side tower so to prevent any further damage they avised the bar.

it does make sense that strut bars do more for verts than sedans/coupes.

I love that bar almost as much as candy. I know they closed them out a few years ago for less than that so, now it's all about supply and demand. It will be gone by weeks end at that price so, grab it if you want it.

danewilson77
10-11-2012, 02:42 PM
I can tell a difference with no strut bar installed.

johnrando
10-11-2012, 02:43 PM
That would be a good test... remove an installed one and then get a feel.

danewilson77
10-11-2012, 02:45 PM
Yup. I could not "for sure" tell when I installed my strut bar, but could definetely tell, when I removed it. Getting a new one soon. Most likely from Mason Engineering, Schmiedmann, or an oem ///M3.

I just might buy both and re-sell to make a profit.....but then again, I already posted the prices on here and I'd feel bad profiting from ZHPMafia....well..... not really :shift

Maybe I'll list it as $2,000 on E46Fanatics. Knowing them, somebody will probably bite.

Well, I'll contact the seller of these two items and get the ball rolling. Thanks for the advice! Now I know even if I don't keep both for myself, I can at the very least get my money back easily :pimp
Oh and both of them came off the owner's '02 330Ci so both are guaranteed to fit. (Am I right?)

The BMW Performance strut bar will fit all 3-series including the ///M3 :thumbsup ( I know :) )

I would "assume" that the performance intake will fit as well but since I don't have one, I can't say... :caseyshrug

Well, it looks like I'm all out of luck. The seller said he had a local buyer wanting to take a look at them first. Only if he doesn't buy, then he'll sell to me.
I had offered him $650 shipped. He said he'll agree to that if the deal with the local doesn't fall through.
I think he Googled the parts and found out the prices were higher :(
