New member to this forum(though I have done a bit of lurking in the past), but definitely not new to the best generation of BMWs made.

My fiance just bought Marc Biunno's ZHP, which should find a happy home in our family which currently includes an E46 M3 coupe(brother's), E46 330xi sedan(father's), and E46 325xi touring(mother's). Certainly a platform we are familiar with! :thumbsup

My past cars have been a '99 E36 M3:

No particularly good shots of the 128i, but I am in the process of transitioning to a BRZ either way. I have a really hard time saying no to lightweight, NA, RWD, LSD, and 6MT. :rofl

Outside of cars, I quite enjoy shooting and blowing various things up. :guns

Couldn't agree more. Much like the E46. Sheer driving pleasure coupled with unreal amounts of practicality. Form following function, yet some how, looks the best of all.

Definitely try to get some wheel time with it. I had 45 minutes to absolutely cane a friend's in whatever way I wanted, and it completely sold me. It feels and drives exactly like an E30 M3. Which if you look at the specs(they are exactly the same), it makes sense.

I have NVGs for night blowing up too, sadly I just sold my AN/PVS-14 :( because, well I don't really have a good reason for that.

Sique cars too!

That sounds excellent. I always wanted to get some variety of SLR photo shoot pairing my interest in cars and explosions in the background.

You can always justify selling NV by telling yourself that the intensifier didn't have that many hours left on it. ;)

Sorry, on the car and staying there. I can't imagine why you would want it though, non illuminated and to me, a downgrade from the E46 generation knob.

So now I have to decide which car in your family I like best: the E36, the E39, or one of the Imola E46s.

I say BRZ!

What are the details on your BRZ order?

for sure. some of my current favorite cars are the 1M coupe (RIP), Audi TT RS, Mustang Boss 302, Ford Focus ST (finally in the US!) and of course the afforementioned BRZ/FRS (moreso the subie). SRT Viper coming out soon looks amazing as well (what, you mean a modern supercar that doesn't weigh 2+ tons?!?!)

Had a deposit on the Boss 302(6'5" was too tall it turned out) at one point and almost pulled the trigger on the 1M before it came out but bailed because I didn't trust BMW anymore.

I truly hope for the sake of MT RWD LSD lightweight cars that the new ACR SRT Viper crushes everything like the previous generation ACR did.

The 1M turned out to be awesome.

With a modernized s54, it would be perfect (which apparently was the original plan but they couldn't get it to pass current emissions laws).

With an S65, it would be a world killer. The best car BMW ever made... And perhaps the best car ever made.

... And lighter.

It's sad because its technically a very easy install. But, it had to be kept slower than the M3 :(.

I would love to pick up a blown engine 1M down the road and DIY it.

IMHO the 1M is an exception to the BMW norm post Bangle. they have been trending towards bloated, over-gizmo'd, turbo'd cars (and suvs, gasp!) which contradicts everything the brand ethos strove for throghout the past 3 decades. i also agree the 1M would have been perfect with a NA ///M engine...and with higher production numbers.

I've always thought the BRZ looks amazing in that blue color. I drove the FR-S at their KC First Drive event and I was pretty impressed with the handling. The comparison to the E30 M3 is interesting, but I wouldn't disagree.

Not even necessary. You can just get a Z4iS engine. Same thing

The 1M would be perfect with an NA engine, but that car is so incredible, I honestly dont care.

What I'm starting to realize about the 1M is that BMW made that car as a last "hurrah" before they start bastardizing the brand completely. They threw that at us (in limited numbers) to please the enthusiasts just before they sell themselves out.

1 year later and all we keep hearing about BMW is all of these ridiculous new models....
1 series
2 series
3 series
4 series
5 series
6 series
7 series

x1
x3
x5

not to mention M line models for all of them. There will be a normal 3/4 series, and then an M line version, and then a full M. It seems like they are coming out with a new model for every single little niche.

I took the M plunge JUST in time. I was ready to order an '06 E46 M3 back in late '05, but about crapped when I saw the bottom line cost after adding a few (necessary) options, and wound up going new E90 sedan. If I'd have known about the ZHP then, I would have ordered one, and not had to buy one for the first time 5 months ago.

But in '07 I got the Z4M Coupe itch and traded in the E90 on one, and haven't looked back. I'm keeping it for the long haul. Last S54-equipped car. Last BMW that starts with a key. Hydraulic steering, no runflats, no DCT, no iDrive. Just pure ass-kicking driving bliss.

Some of this current "M" stuff - SUVs (cough "SAVs" in BMW-speak), direct-injected and blown various "M" motors, failing HPFPs, carbon buildup issues, and more electronics than in a nerd's wet dream - NO THANKS!

Gawd I'm getting old. :)
