and what is the plan for that Sir?

09-21-2013, 09:18 AM
Seth at the moment I will be recovering from the CSL parts that I've been getting as well as my new to me BBS CH wheels. I still have the Recaro Sportster CS seats to source for the ///M so staying stock regarding my exhaust will have to be for the time being...
Eventually, when funds allow... I would like to get an Rogue Engineering El Diablo exhaust, Status Gruppe Steel "Cat-less" Headers, Status Gruppe Section 1 With Catalytic Converter, and Status Gruppe Section 2 X-Pipe.....but that's down the road...
Anything can be done if you're willing to put money into your car Seth....eventually, my ///M will be perfect to me :thumbsup

For sure was just curious of your plans
I am going to try to make a custom exhaust of my own out of the oem muffler but won't fully finish it till I get the careless headers as well. Too bad they're all so pricey.

Nah that's not good on an S54
You need to kill some rasp and enhance the lower sound waves through some kind of a muffler/resonator.
El diablo is a great example.

Is upgrading to a CSL airbox even worth it? So much money... and what are the gains?
incredibly minimal
cakM3
09-22-2013, 05:40 PM
For some it's the look and sound the airbox provides. If I wasn't planning to boost the ///M with the ESS VT550 kit, this is something I would seriously consider doing for my ///M. Afterall, it's more carbon fiber sexiness...;) Also, having a fully functional OEM CSL Airbox also adds to the exclusivity for the ///M...
Still....not worth the money since you will spend north of $4k for the airbox for minimal performance gain....if I'm going to plunk that type of cash then I will get the VT550 kit instead. :thumbsup
UdubBadger
09-22-2013, 06:11 PM
Solid plan Charlie.
I've looked those kits over and would love one as well but likely just the basic VT445 kit (or maybe VT455 since it's literally only $500 more for 50 ft/lbs more torque). Even on the highway doing a 3rd gear pull I don't get very far because the car is so damn quick. On paper the E46 M looks average as far as power numbers but IRL it is a totally different story.
What are planning on upgrading your clutch to? Flywheel as well?

The OEM CSL door panels have been purchased today :roundel I did shell out lot's of $$$$ for these but it was worth having such a rare item installed into my ///M. As for the side impact air bags, they will be taken out and dropped off at my local dealer who told me they would help me dispose of them :thumbsup
I also confirmed that I will be purchasing the OEM CSL rear diffuser from the same source as well as picking up refinished shadow trim to complete the look inside my ///M :drool
I also sourced the alcantara ///M tri-stiched steering wheel from Bill today. Thanks Bill for the opportunity to buy this from you :thumbsup Looking forward to next Monday when I meet up with Bill and buy his steering wheel and pick up my BBS CH wheels :biggrin

Charlie! I can't wait to see everything installed! After this weekend my car should be a lot closer to being finished with majority of the mods I would like so we can take photos together.
Also interesting twist to things. I realized today after talking to some techs that I burned out the reverse switch on the tranny so that's why I haven't been able to get the reverse camera to signal to the eonon unit. This also will be fix on Saturday! :)

UdubBadger

I concur... However I think the conservative route even supercharging is the way to go personally. Not much need for boost over 5.5-6psi in this car... Unless you're running it at the mile for top speed or something. 400+ HP in this car is gonna feel redic.

Sorry guys.....the ESS VT-550 is the future for my ///M. Changing out the headers and entire exhaust to get that F1 sound I will eventually have with my beast but that's a few years ahead.
For now I will settle for the BBS CH wheels, the OEM CSL door panels, OEM CSL bootlid, and OEM CSL Rear Diffuser my ///M will have....
I will also be working on getting Recaro Sportster CS seats instead of the BMW Performance seats....Stuart's influence prevails here :thumbsup
EDIT: I posted that supercharging was in the future for my ///M. I have since changed my mind and decided to keep my ///M N/A so OEM CSL intake is in the future for my ///M now... :drevil

Charlie... is it disturbing that I am in love with your M?
Actually.... there are several people who love my ///M ;) Ryan was the first to call dibs on my ///M if I ever get rid of it just so you know :biggrin
My focus has and is to keep the ///M as clean as possible with very tasteful mods as well as keeping her very well maintained. Especially since I now have over 155k on the odometer. The car runs, feels, and looks like a car with less than 35k on the odometer. Not bad for an OCD guy like me....;)
I have been very fortunate regarding mods to both of my cars and will continue towards the path of constantly improving on both of my rides :thumbsup
Any constructive inputs will be looked into and if I choose to adopt them, people providing those inputs will be credited as they are also helping me to improve my rides :thumbsup
Feel free to love away Matt! :biggrin

The OEM CSL bootlid arrived at my place today. It is painted carbon black and is patiently waiting for all my other mods to be complete before being taken to the body shop for prep and paint. Changing from CB to TiAg so I can have this wonderful CSL awesomeness mounted in place of my Scorza CSL bootlid. One thing I intend to keep is the center edge of the tail black and have that part blend in on either side just like how I have exposed the carbon fiber part on my present bootlid. Should look awesome when done :thumbsup

Always wanted to go to that show but, that's an incredibly long ride for a show.

I've missed going to this show 4 years in a row due to scheduling conflicts. This time I'm not doing anything that will prevent me from going so I'm bringing the ///M to this event. Should be nice to see a few people I know. :thumbsup
When I was up in Ohio I attend a all German car show at a German club every year. Was a great show usually on the back lawn and never missed the Schnitzel they served for lunch inside. Missed that the last two years, being in Tennessee and the show I'm heading to in the morning is the first show I've entered in, in over two years.
Good luck Sunday at Bav Auto!

And the wheels are awesome. Ever consider non-colored lugs?

Thanks for the complements Marc! :thumbsup As for my colored lugs? I was going for the neo-chrome Kics R-40 but ended up with the set I now have due to supply issues. Since using these colored lugs, I have gotten so many complements on them, especially with my BBS CH wheels. I think I'll be keeping what I now have...:)

That's interesting to know Seth. So far mine haven't moved yet. Everything is solid so far :thumbsup The install in itself was a lot easier than I had thought. Perhaps that's because I have two BMWs to maintain Botond. Once I get everything, and I mean everything, sorted out on my ZHP then I will look into tracking it. Until then I am not willing to take the ZHP to the track.....not just yet. I have bushings to replace....one of them Rob was kind enough to point out to me when he installed my LSD. As for wheels, I'm working on that as well :)

Until then I am not willing to take the ZHP to the track.....not just yet. I have bushings to replace....one of them Rob was kind enough to point out to me when he installed my LSD. As for wheels, I'm working on that as well :)
With that said, I will be happy to go with you to the track so I can see, and learn, what goes on while at the track :thumbsup

It comes down to preparing my ZHP for track next season or obtain very rare OEM CSL parts for my ///M......you figure out what I choose to do....:rofl I can come in April when track season starts though and bring along my DSLR to take pics....I'm okay with doing that for the time being. What's this??? You've seen "my" panels or you've seen OEM CSL panels? Seeing them is one thing but picking them up is another thing that I recently learned. Not only do you have the looks of the CSL door panel but man are they incredibly light! At least half the weight of standard OEM BMW panels! I was amazed when I checked out a local sale for OEM CSL door panels. Unfortunately the local ones were trashed. As I said, my panels are scheduled to arrive tomorrow so I will be taking the day off, at least until they arrive...;)
As for the carbon fiber roof? That depends on Challenge, the company producing them. I am in contact but am waiting for the first panel to be produced and the guy receiving them will PM me pics to see if I'm interested in getting one. Of course I will be interested but like all things....it will come down to cost. As much as I want one, I will have to wait till after the holidays - at the earliest - before I can consider getting one. Eventually this will happen though....this is part of the vision I have for my ///M :thumbsup
Yeah, I know you won't sell it. I know I couldn't buy it if you did. But, it's comforting to me to know I had first dibs. Then it's comforting to me to know Ryan is next. :)
Rando, the only person I would even consider having my ///M other than my only brother would be a fellow enthusiast. Looking at it this way.....I've poured so much TLC into my ///M because I love everything that it stands for.
Problem is that when I purchased it, the interior and exterior color was no where close to what I would have wanted.... ideally, I would have preferred to get an Interlagos Blue/Cinnimon or Silbergrau (silver grey)/Imola Red or Black. What I could find in a manual was TiAg/Grey instead so I decided to make this my ///M project car instead. Since the car already had high mileage to begin with, I knew it wouldn't be worth anything by the time I got to where I would consider selling it.....so the next best thing for me was to make this my "perfect" ///M instead. If I choose to repaint the ///M in another color sometime in the future, it will be Silbergrau/silver grey since it will work better with TiAg than Interlagos Blue would.
One thing for sure....my ///M will be one very special high mileage ///M......perhaps I should begin writing a story behind my ///M, incorporate pictures (god knows! I have lots ;)) and submit it to the Roundel for print ;) It would be one enthusiast's journey with their BMW :) Just a thought....

Not putting a carbon fiber hood on my ///M nor would I ever do that... I will be taking off my OE roof and mounting/installing a full carbon fiber roof panel, just like the CSL. That is one of major mods I will be doing for my ///M in the future....gonna happen :thumbsup

Cf hood is nice Chuck, don't discount it. Paint it as if oem if you don't like the look (which I personally don't) but the weight savings is worth it's consideration.

Problem is the carbon fiber hood is not part of the vision I have for my ///M. I'm not a big fan of the "GT-R" vents you commonly see on carbon fiber hoods. Then there's the fitment issue....not all carbon fiber hoods have perfect fitment (an important criteria for me). This is one of the major reasons why I'm replacing my Scorza CSL bootlid for an OEM CSL bootlid.....perfect fitment.
When the time comes for me to boost the ///M with an ESS VT-550 kit, the weight of my OE hood won't be a factor in performance.....the car will still be plenty quick for me. :thumbsup

Was just saying it's a good enough weight savings to at least consider. Any pro shop can get a good piece to fit well and they aren't all GTR style vented and when painted look completely oem/stock. Just depends how much you want to pay. The vents don't do it for me but adding under good weight can throw off the balance a bit - switching out he good could bring it back to oem ratio in that case.
Again not about whether you do it or not - it's your car and decision. I just was surprised with the quick response of I'd NEVER do it.

Seth, remember when BMW produced a few ///M3 GTRs for sale so they could race their GTRs? The OE hood that was on that GTR is the hood I would love to have on my ///M. Not the carbon fiber "GTR" hoods that you see currently made. Why couldn't they reproduce the exact hood that the factory GTR had come with??? I don't know but that's the hood I really love...it's not too over the top like current GTR rep hoods are and it's very clean in design...just the way I like it...:) Anyway since I don't know how I can get one of those directly from BMW....I'll just stay with the stock aluminum hood that my ///M has....it works for me. :)
Ah, I misunderstood.

Majority of the time, vents are used to extract heat though.
If the factory m3 hood is aluminium, I would leave it on since the majority of the aftermarket hoods are heavier. Unless of course they are dry-carbon
