The coilover adjustment goes down....on the spring perch.

The coilover adjustment goes down....on the spring perch.

See that's what I thought, but then my spring will be upside down, or the letters will be at least.

Dunno...maybe I'm backwards.

Maybe it varies brand to brand. To me, it just seems better to have it on the spring perch.

No you are right, that isbwhat I have seen too. Maybe im doing something wrong :scratchinghead

I think your's are correct. Mine are wrong. Every pic I see has them the way you have them installed.

Another pic I found on Google for KW.

I will tell you.....adjustment would be a ton easier the way you have them installed though. Can't use the wrenches down in the spring perch. You have to take the coil out.

Top or bottom.....mechanically probably doesn't matter much

It just looks like that's where people put them. I'm going to look at my instructions.

Well I tried adjusting it when it was above and there was no way of getting the adjusting wrench up there. Also it was quite difficult to align the bottom of the shock w the bracket. I'm stumped.

Opposite way. It shouldnt sit on the rubber pad??

Idk, just doesnt seem right w the spring upside down. The opposite way(Bilstein letters right side up) both rubber pads can be used, but leaves no room to adjust the height of the car

Confirmed. You are correct.

Ok so if I am understanding this right, From top, should be adjuster(no rubber pad), spring( right side up), and lower rubber pad, which was on top before, goes below??

I always wondered why it was such a PITA to adjust my ride height in the rear.

Dane you sooo fast!!! Heheh :rockon

So again, at the top, you have the body of the car, and then your metal adjuster, no rubber between metals??

Haha sorry I am so cautious :facepalm

No worries bro. I do have a small gasket between body of car at top, and my height adjustment. The rest is as you say.

Even if you don't have the small gasket...it's all good. Go for it.

Another quick shot. Lowest setting. Drove great, but rubbed once on a high speed bend in rear, so either raise slightly or roll fenders

Wow, I just came across this thread. I installed mine a few weeks ago with the adjuster on the control arm. I used the DIY from my330i and it looks like he has it on the bottom, should I flip it? There's definitely no room to get the spanner wrench on the bottom for adjustment.

EDIT: my330i link: http://my330i.com/mod10b.php

The adjusters are different as you can see. I actually have the same one as the OP, but ordered the ones in the DIY from Turner because I thought I was missing an adjustment piece (since the originals only have a spring plate nut, and the others have a spring plate and lock nut). Which way do you guys think I do this?

DOUBLE EDIT: After some research, it looks like I have the Bilstein PSS kit as opposed to the PSS9 kit. They use 2 different rear perch setups (link (http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-3629-e46-323i325i328i330i-bilstein-pss-coil-over-suspension.aspx)). Looks like the ZHP is going up on jackstands tomorrow.

Apologies for the confusing thread bump, gents.

From my research.....most kits want the adjusters on the top. I had my KW V1's installed with the adjuster on the bottom, viewed this thread, looked at the directions for the KW's and sure enough.....needs to be on top, so I flipped it.

I will say I noticed zero difference.

Sorry havent been on to see this. I left the adjuster on top and honestly never used it with the wrench. After lifting the car in the air, Literally took 10 minutes to unbolt the shock and just remove the spring altogether and adjust from each side.

I swapped to the top after reading this. After adjusting them a few times over the weekend, I have the process down to a science, especially with Dane's tip in his coilover install of using the stock jack to get the spring out. Glad I found the thread though, much better on top
