All -

Which battery are you using to replace oem? I've read about the 49dl which requires some modification and is not direct drop in. I've also read of a 94r that might be an easier drop in. What's your experience?

I just put an Autozone H7 AGM into my car. Living in the extreme desert climate that is the Sonoran desert, an AGM battery is almost a must. Not cheap - $189 - but has a 36-month full replacement warranty, and AGM batteries do much better in our extreme heat.

+1.
I popped out the factory battery, dropped it in, wired it up, and it was done. Took about 5-10 minutes

I've got a 94R in mine. Fit great and works fine. Although, my tech at the indy shop I take my car to when I have a problem I can't solve said he would recommend installing a BMW OEM battery. Maybe I will when this duralast conks out, but until then, I'm not too worried.

Awesome thread. Bookmarking. Thanks. The guy who did my PPI suggested I change the battery soon but he wasnt sure how old it was. I might change it out before winter comes. If the BMW battery is around 140 Ill just go that route.

This must be what I have now. The Legend must have been in the 325i ZSP.

Only for you guys would I go out to the garage, in my skimmies, and take a pic of my battery. This is direct OE replacement.

My OEM battery died yesterday. Just went to wally world and bought an everstart MAXX H7 battery. The 94R is no longer made, its replaced by the H7. Perfect fit, even had the port for the vent tube and the stock red plastic + terminal cover clipped right on.

I stayed with OEM and paid around ~$150 after BMW CCA member discount.

You can never go wrong with OEM, not that im saying its better than others.

I'll have to check what AAA put in my car. Cost me 151 in change, had it install in Feb 2011, but it's been great, and the AAA tech did a pretty thorough test of the old and new battery. I think I even posted up the long receipt the test device spit out when the tests were over.

They all will most likely last 4-7 tears.

Oh, I bet many many more tears :) As far as I know, my battery was still the stock battery, so 10 years aint bad.
