My cabin filter cover was weathered, when I found out it was a <$10 replacement, I ordered a new one. While waiting, I had some fun with BMW Motorsport colors. I cannot decide if I want to take this "prototype" to reality.
Is this Lame, or Cool?

:like
:like I think it is cool because it'll only be noticeable to those who get a chance to look under the bonnet.

Hmmm, is this visible through the slats in the hood? If so, definitely post a pic because I think that would be super cool!
Not a huge fan of it with the hood up, maybe just because it's sooo much... I dunno, can't quite put my finger on it.

Great idea, yes - the filter cover is visible from outside - I am now thinking more cool than lame

I vote cool.
What about if you striped it the long direction?

Keith, c/f that thing, it could go well with your engine bay.

cool idea especially looking into the hood vents, but I think it would look alot better professionally done.

no purple stripe?

Yea, purple stripe is there, just didn't show up on the photos. Once I get my new cover replacement, I am going to do this more "professionally" as was previously suggested. Will post pics after that. BTW washed car today and in the bright sunlight the colors (all 3 with the middle purple stripe) showed through the vent of the hood. I do have to say that it was awesome looking.
So I guess the votes state COOL and not LAME.........so I will post pics once I "officially" finish this the right way

I would have done the german flag colors. Also since the rest of the space under the hood isn't "flashy" per say... Kinda looks out of place to me.

Now with a better paint job on the Motorsport colors, here is the final result

1. Bought new filter cover, it was $7.50, so I figured if I messed it up, I could re-do. Any of the online parts stores
2. steel wooled the entire top of the cover, wipe clean
3. Dupli-Color Prep Spray to remove all grease, wax, and yuck
4. 2 coats of Brite Touch General Purpose Primer (bought at O'Reilly)
5. Sprayed one half with Duplicolor Engine Enamel DE 1601 Ford Blue. 3 coats
6. Sprayed the other half (while blue was drying) with Duplicolor Engine Enamel DE 1605 Ford Red. 3 coats
7. Let it air dry for 2 hours
8. Masked off the center area to be sprayed with purple. Estimated angle from brand images of the Motorsport Logos. By the way, also reviewed all Duplicolor colors, and the Pantene colors for Motorsport - best matches just happen to be named "Ford".
9. Sprayed 3 coats of Duplicolor Engine Enamel DE 1640 Plum Purple
10. Let it air dry for 2 hours, done
Pretty simple really, but especially since the part was less than $10 - worth the try to see how it looked.
using the Yellow, Red and Black of the german flag is a nice idea - but only the yellow and red would show up - the black would mimic the original color of the cover, so I think it would look odd.
