Anybody own a lift, car ramp or use another method at home?

I am really tempted to buy a Kwik-lift as seen below:

ehhh, I still think this is the best bet for someone willing to invest a bit in this kind of set up.

Checked out the MaxJax, though I'd probably settle for a four-poster so I could park 'em two high if I was going to drop that kind of change.

The Kwik-Lift I am looking at is used and considerably less money than either of the above.

I thought about the wheels too, though I can still use jackstands with this. I woudn't need to extend them so less risk of their failure (IMHO) and what's not shown in pix is optional crossbeam support, which would prevent the car from crashing through the middle even in such cases.

Now if I am under it and > 8.1 hits San Francisco, well, I probably won't feel it.

Personally I think the Bend-pak looks totally sketchy and I wouldn't crawl under it.

I like the fact I can store this in a reasonable 8x3x3 space when (if really) not in use. The Kwik-Lift new was about 1K plus freight on something like 600lbs. They closed shop in March of this year. I think you can tell I am all but finished the process of buying a Kwik-Lift though I'd still like somebody to give me a reason not to and seeing what else is being used is cool too!

Guy on bf.co has the max jack or something similar. I thought it was pretty awesome! Never seen this quick lift though.

I wouldn't buy the one in the OP......for the simple reason, you can't work on the suspension.

Would be great for under engine/tranny/driveline/diff type work.

Are you proposing that once on the lift the car......you're going to lift wheel to remove possibly?

I don't understand why I can't work on the suspension. I think you are asking do I intend to do this with the wheel (Yes, sir!):

But...even in that pic......it looks like control arm/CAB work might be difficult. As long as you have a plan, it should work I guess.

^ saw that too but figured getting under/around it would be a touch more of a hassle and for the money would rather do the Bend Pak or Max Jack.

I gotta do all I can for Ryan so he can get to the odd corners and gaps around the car when he comes to do work on it. ;)

The Kwiklift is listed locally on Craigslist for 600.00. I was going to offer 400, and see where it goes.

Other reasons I like this:
No power required
My garage and driveway pads will support it without drilling/boring, etc.
Somewhat portable
Stores easily

If I were able to shell out 2K+, I'd buy a four poster and use it to store two cars when not being used for maintenance.

Finally, I figure it it's good enough for this '58 Vette, it's probably good enough for me :) (Though what's with the fluids on the ground?)

My only thought. Once you get the vehicle on this lift, it appears to be too high to lay on a creeper and work underneath, yet not high enough to sit upright under the car. Seems less than ergonomic...

Good luck. My advice, drive your car onto it and then get under and see how well it'd work for you. Also, check all seams and corners for stress fractures. You will never get any support in an insurance claim or lawsuit buying something like this secondhand.

My buddy actually has this for his Supra. He built an extra ramp out of 2x4s step up to clear the ramp. It works great cause you can move it away when there is a party and use the garage.

Figured I'd update this.

I bought the Kwik-lift used in late August for 600.00. I won't say I love it, but I do really appreciate it. I feel really safe under the car. It is made of solid steel and wrapped in a rubber coating. I am not worried about it structurally. The crossmembers allow me to lift the cars on jackstands while on the lift giving me full access to work on any part of my vehicles. I can sit upright under the vehicles while working on them, which given my anatomical condition is a huge win. There are some drawbacks, generally the weight and the cumbersome, somewhat time consuming setup, but overall I am very happy with it. As posted elsewhere, I've dismantled 5 e30's this summer, and began rebuilding one here this fall. It also provides much needed storage space under my car while I am sorting through everything. I feel this has been a huge score for the money.

I bought a MAXXJAXX a few months ago - but I have been so damn busy with three project cars that I havent installed it yet - it is just taking up a huge amount of space in the garage

under the E30 parts and all the way down to the generator also taking up precious space
