Does anybody have any experience with aftermarket seats in our cars? The suede/power seats weigh almost 90lbs, and that seems like a good place to lose some weight and put something a little sportier in. I've heard Corbeau's bracket for their seats raises the height to the point where a lot of people are hitting the ceilings in their cars with helmets on, so I was thinking about some other brands. Does anybody have some suggestions?

Might want to move this to the track/autox section. Those guys would probably have the best suggestions for seats in the e46.

I run a Recaro SPG with macht schnell brackets for the driver side. I did not mess with the passenger side due to the airbag light and I didn't want to deal with the seat occupancy sensor mat at the present time. I actually sit lower than the factory lowest position. The armrest is in the way when its lowered.

Bcleaver has some Racetech seats in his I believe.

Derbo, that's a nice set up. Thanks for the input man. I'll look into some Recaros and the brackets!

Approx 15 lbs each seat.
I don't know exact weight of a zhp seat though, that's assuming they weigh 40lbs
A recaro pole position and side mounts, no sliders is right about 24 lbs

Greetings Junior2552:
You may find this discussion helpful. http://www.zhpmafia.com/forums/showthread.php?2731-Race-seat-thread&highlight=sparco
We did have a short discussion going on various seats. Interestingly, I believe that the racing/performance driving seats are all very close in their overall dimensions, so they do have a fairly universal fitment, excluding the base brackets and slide rails. That is what I learned when fitting Sparcos into my E30. Yes, there are certainly exceptions, but overall the seats are close.

I weighed my Recaro SPG + Macht Schnell mounts since its out. It came out to 36.2lbs. Now I don't know what the weight of the stock seat is, but its definitely more than that.

I have a recaro slider on it too. I believe they are steel and recaro does make an aluminum one. You can always opt to remove the sliders too for weight loss! :D
I opt to go on a diet. :)

I have the racetech rt1000 seats. About 14lbs without sliders. In my class the whole seat and mounting hardware needs to weight at least 25lbs so I wasn't really concerned with finding light brackets. It sits lower than stock for sure, I actually raised it a hint for better visibility. IIR the stock seats are close to 70 lbs EACH. If you're going to drop seat $ it's worth sitting in some to make sure they fit in all the right places.

bcleaver, what seatbelt is that from? That's not a stock seatbelt I noticed. I can't get the stock seatbelt with the pre-tensioner to go through the seat harness guide like that.
+1 on trying the seats. I'm a waist 32 and I fit snugg into the SPG.
OT: bcleaver, looks like you need to pay a visit to colbywheel ;)

It's a stock belt but has a CG lock on it. The hole on my seat must just be larger to get the male adapter through.
No joke on the colbywheel. It's on the list but somehow fell below tires in priority :)

Sorry, I was referring to the seatbelt buckle. It looks like it doesn't have the pre-tensioner factory system on it.
