Hey guys and Gals, For ages people had to use BMW software or Auto Enginuity to Data log their cars but that all comes at a cost. Over $500!

Ok so some of you are saying what? what is Data log?

Well data logging allows you to see the engines functions in real time and you can record the data and graph it.

Parameter ID or also known as PID is what we call up on the software to log, Some PID's are like Throttle Position, Timing Advance, Cam Advance etc.

Most times you get a tune from a company like Eurocharged, well what if you changed an item like the headers, or throttle body, or add cams? With a data logger you can make a log file, graph it or just send Eurocharged or one of their dealers the log file and they can make the changes needed quickly with the information presented to them.

Enter BimmerSoftwares BMW Logger. This is barely out on the market and it is being tested by few. But for many years there hasn't been something like this at all!

A lot of time is going into making all BMW DME's available!

One of our very own here on these forums, Bullfrogs_M3 put in a helping hand for the MS45 crowd (before we get forgotten). If it wasn't for him BMW Logger wouldn't be available for the MS45 cars! So my thanks goes out to him!

I support stuff like this because it helps the DIY guys a lot. It is good for verifying issues with the sensors and you can clear adaptations and CEL's. Cool tool to have.
And best of all is works for Mac OS X 10.5 And Up, Windows XP And Up.

Why buy a scan tool for $100+ when most OBDII Generics will not display BMW Specific PID's?

The cable used for this costs about $9.00 shipped

Once mine is up and running I will let you know as by the end of the day today I should have my beta copy to make sure things are working as they should. I also think Bullfrogs_M3 will be testing out the functionality of it.

Well I tried out the data logger for the MS45. It is in Beta test now and development is moving along.

RPM is off because of the software offsets. Speed also and a few other PIDs.

I made this log this morning on my car..It was 28 minutes long.

More PID's will be added to this software in the future and if it takes off.

I like be able to code and update anything on the car with the bmw tools. Cost was $36 and about 30 min to set up. I've worked with auto enginuity in the past on my ford probe it is very nice software and is fun to play with.

well the software works on MS45/MS45.1 and upon request Knock support is there now for MS45 so far. As the software grows the better it will be.

JR from Bimmersoftware has responded to all my queries and demands so far on the software.

On another forum he stated this "It's possible to expand to other modules. We'll see how the software picks up. It's still new.

It's data logging software not tuning software. I pitched the idea of tuning software to the market and it did not respond so it was trumped and put on the back burner."

This guy is not new to tuning software and Automotive ECU stuff. So maybe with support he will come up with a tuning software suite for BMW.

Software price is $49 with free updates. but on M3post they have a group buy on it and currently the pricing is at $19!

Also, I verified that with any log in this software you can have a dyno graph through Virtual Dyno by Brad Barnhill.

Looks awesome. Do I have to strap a laptop to my dash or can it log and display on an iPad or smartphone?

Quick question with your IAT, is the temp specific to the zhp or bmw has a certain temp threshold for all of their bmw's?

I use a little netbook, works for me.

The site says: Mac OS X 10.5 And Up, Windows XP And Up.

The Intake air temp?

it varies more on MS45 then it does on MS43 since the IAT is in the MAF.

http://bimmersoftware.com/

They are the ones who made Neptune, HRTuning who does the Honda tuning stuff.

Also, you can take your logs and put them in Virtual Dyno. if you set it up correctly you get horsepower/Torque figures for your car. as long as the road is straight and no bumps.

Nivo,

I was wondering if you could send me a file with a datalog session on your 05. I have been fighting 2882 and 2883(Lean Bank 1 and 2) for the past few months and really want to compare lambda values. I thought had it nailed because my lambda's were running~+10% and during a DIY Saturday I found some dead mice in the DISA. I replaced lower intake boot, cleaned ICV, MAF and G.A.S. Disa repair kit and went 2k miles before only 2882 (bank 2) kicked off again. I have found the light will not be triggered until ~15% but it just came back for the second time. With the isolation I am thinking it might actually be a O2 sensor, but when I get off work I am going to plug in again and see where I am standing. Thanks and I PM'ed you with my email.

Brian

The DataLogger now does Knock voltage.
