View Full Version : Okay What About Quick Detail Spray?

Ahoy Mafia,

Alright, another stupid detail question ahead. I did not find anything using the search function...

Anyway, if it rains and there's water spots or I just have some small dust on my car, sometimes I find it unnecessary to drive to the car wash (I live in an apartment) and do that whole wash. I'd rather just have a wipe down system. I think I may still have some leftover quick detail spray from Meguiar's that came with their clay bar kit. Would this be bad to use on my paint or bad for my wax? I would just use a light coat and a microfiber to wipe it all down. It would really come in handy if my car is not really even all that dirty and I just want to wipe off water spots or dust.

Any opinions?

Many thanks,
Pete

Just because I've always been such a detail nazi, I'd be a little leery of wiping grit across the surface of the paint (even if it's lubricated by the detail spray).

That said, I have seen people with much nicer cars than mine happily spraying/rubbing away on their cars with quick detailer, so maybe it's okay. Maybe a good course of action would be to first use something like the California Car Duster to get rid of the majority of the dust, then follow it with the quick detailer?

I was thinking that might be a good idea, too. I figure so long as it's not super gritty and dusty I would use it.

I ask because just last night I waxed my car, and of course this morning it rains. Happens every time. I don't want to go all the way to the car wash to just get rid of some pesky water spots. I was thinking just a quick detail spray to touch it up. I want it to look nice for my trip this weekend.

Only use quick detailer right after a wash, and i mean right after a wash.

If you wait overnight, for example, the particles are now on the paint and youll grind all that stuff into the paint.

Looks like you need ONR (Optimum No Rinse). Perfect for people who have limited access to water at home

Definitely do not use more than a 24 hours following a wash... I used to use detailer spray/microfiber towel between washes all the time until I discovered that's where all my swirl marks were coming from... :banghead:

I see! So basically I just get an empty spray bottle and mix in 1 oz. of the stuff to 1/8th of a gallon (or 8oz per 1 gallon)? Then I just spray on and wipe off? And I can use it 24 hours after a wash and wax and it won't strip my wax?

Seems too easy...

If the car get's very dusty and you can see a film, it's best to wash it down rather than use detailer spray. That's where I have found swirl marks originate by using detail spray on a dusty car....then I have to resort to paint correction detail requiring more work...

On the most part, I try to detail sparay/wipe down every other day (at most) to keep the car clean in between car washes. People, where I live, look at me as the "crazy" car guy because of this...:)

Hmm... It's just such a tough call. I may just keep to my normal routine of just washing every other week unless I have an accumulation of bird poop. It's just difficult because I don't have quick and easy access to car washes and it adds up quickly.

Honestly, I'm just mad that it rained right after I waxed my car and wanted to get rid of water spots without having to go to the car wash.

Welcome to the world of OCD...lol

Trust me, the weather hates clean cars.

But back to the ONR, it's basically quick detailer on crack. Has high lubricants so the risk of scratching is much less

I hear you guys talking about swirl marks when using quick detailers. Is that going to be the case with ONR? Should I just consider getting the bucket setup and going from there instead of doing a quick detail every week?

I probably shouldn't use the bucket method, anyway. I don't think my apartment complex would like it much (even though I'd probably do it after hours).

Sorry for all the questions, by the way. I just want to know as much as I can before I buy a bunch of stuff.

Was this the article? http://www.detailedimage.com/Ask-a-Pro/winter-washing-with-optimum-no-rinse-onr/

I think that pretty much clears up most of the questions unless anyone has any opinions or advice. I probably won't use as many buckets and stuff. But, I think doing it this way may save some money down the road.

I use this one (anti static)

It's nicknamed "Liquid Crack" because once you use it and smell it you'll be hooked.

Chemical guys makes real nice QD sprays. I use the synthetic detail spray.

However, it will not replace on what OP is asking for. You'll still induce swirl marks w/these.

Autozone carries Eagle Ones Nanowax. It works great and smells like bubble gum!

This is a spray wax and not a detail spray. There is a difference, correct?

i don't think so personally but for marketing purposes lets say "yes". It's not like you can spray that every 3 months and say you "waxed" the car.

And its probably a relabeled CG product if it smells like bubble gum.

I think they're completely different products.

CG doesn't rebrand.

It's like saying poorboys red nattys wax smells like strawberries (which is does). So it must be chemical guys

CG does rebrand Kyle, they sell their stuff under different labels all over. Several detailers that i know personally have their own line of products which are produced by CG and a different label is slapped on the bottle.

I'm not saying every bubble gum smelling detailer is CG but there is a good chance it could be.

Rebranded...but reformulated.

Everything is speculation. I have yet to see a confirmed source say this.

Only one I know GC brands is SmartWax...and that is a complete separate line

I don't know about reformulated Kyle, I assume people pay for CG stuff because it's good, not sure why they'd want it reformulated.

This is off the website of the guy I used to use very frequently for my 135i. If this isn't CG then I might be crazy (especially since he specifically told me it was just relabeled CG products sold to him by them).

That's a private label, not OTC.

Aka, chemical guys will give you a private label so you can basically become a franchise for them.

i use Chemical Guys Hybrid V7 Sealant/Detail Spray right after washing with CG Citrus Wash. it's a quick 1-2 combo that leaves a great shine and lasting protection.

i've also used the Quik Detail Spray (the pink bubblegum smelling one) and it's also good stuff. but i like the sealant properties of the V7 a little better...

Fair enough, I think we are kinda talking about the same thing here just not realizing it.

I'm not saying CG supplies the world with their product but I wouldn't be surprised if it was also sold to other manufacturers to sell under their label because its good stuff. I've seen it happen a lot in the house hold cleaning industry. My cousin in-law owns a factory that makes a bunch of that stuff like OxyClean and OrangeGlow, ect.... Not all of it, but some, gets rebranded and sold OTC as a different company's product. Sometimes being the middle man is profitable. OxyClean gives you a 40% discount on bulk, you relabel and sell yourself for a 40% markup and everyone is making money.
