Well I do believe it is about time that I throw together a project/maintenance thread for my beloved Imola over Alcantara ZHP.

I have been a BMW drive ever since my first car which was a Jet Black 1996 328i. The E36 has been retired to the drive way until it can be mended and given a new lease on life, after all it has covered 210,000 miles.

Finally in February I found the perfect second car. The 2005 ZHP that now resides in my drive way.

Mods/Maint so far:

30% Tint all around
Bimmian Phone mount
New fogs and angel eyes
New Thermostat
Hardwired Escort Passport 8500 X50
Cooling system refresh
Replace Vanos

Future additions:

CDV Delete (This weekend)
RE pulleys for water pump and power steering (on back order)
OEM Bluetooth
Denison gateway iPod hook up
Black kidneys
AFE Intake
Magnaflow Exhaust
Refinish 135's
CSL's has a second pair of shoes.

For now that is all but I will continue to update this thread with info and Pictures as I go.

Yes your navi is all sorts of FUBAR I mean it did think I was driving through a field.

But yes I know it sounds odd but the beaches are just different. For one the waves are much better at my home beach, and I would see the beach from my bedroom at home. :-(

A man after my own heart - dark E36 & IR E46 in the drive FTW! Also, 210,000 is just getting broken in. I have 240,000 on my E36 & she is still happy (usual BMW consumables aside). Bimmers look great. Enjoy FL! Not sure I would return to Jersey unless you are missing a good hoagie, ice cream, VIR tomato pie...and cold winters. :cool:

Thanks for the support guys! And Brett, I know 210k is just getting broken in but the motor was not the reasons for retirement the large amounts of rust were what did it.

Its ok, once I am out of school and have a job the plan is to either restore because race car.

But the back up plan if the rust is to much is to pull the drive train and put it in something else....Caterham?

Update on the ZHP though.....everybody and there mother is sold out of under drive pulleys. So for not I am going to throw on an aluminum water pump pulley and do the under drives later.

I have never been much of a detailer bit this weekend I decided to try my hand at it.

So over the last two days, but really only about 4 hours of actual work I did a full wash, clay and wax. First time I have ever clayed a car too.

Ok,

Well update time. New Vanos and Cooling system in. Has a few issues along the way, such as a snapped stud for the water pump. Thankfully I made it to the dealer just in time for the parts guy to find not the exact stud, but one with the same threads just a few mm longer.

I also forgot to plug in the intake solenoid in the Vanso so I initially had a code, but I cleared that and it has not come back.

Over all the install was pretty simple there was just alot of it.

Only issues now is a very small coolant leak that I think is just a loose hose. as well as a rough idle but thats is because I cracked the CCV hose that comes out of the valve cover.

All and all I am happy with how it went considering I have never done anything like this before.

I have a few pics and a video of the rough idle that I will put up tonight.

I did everything but the Rad, I think the one hose is just sitting a little funny. It appears to be dripping out of the smaller of the two connections at the top of the expansion tank.

You may want to get that looked at...don't wait for it to go. Burp the hose, pull the hose, lube the o-rings with concentrated coolant and reinstall correctly.

Yeah, it is a very slow leak but I am letting the engine cool now and I'll look at it in a few hours.

Ok mini update. Car ran fine, other than a crappy idle, on the way to work this morning (about 25 miles) temp stayed steady between 93 and 98 degrees Celsius but generally remained at 95 the whole drive. As of now it looks like the small dripping has stopped too. But I will investigate more at lunch.

Well hopefully this is the final update on the vanos and cooling system job.

Found the vaccum leak.

I, in the bone head of the week award totally forgot about the 4 grommets that go on the 4 bolts that run down the center of the valve cover.......

Yep rookie mistaken lol. Going to throw them on in a little bit. Should be all good after that.


EDIT: rubber grommets installed and all is well.

Nah I'll share. It is through a shop in Orlando called Performance Race Solutions. They go by PRS. 340 plus tax for the intake and about 100 for the scoops plus tax. Total will be 475 shipped for both.

I figured should try and support a local business and it just happened to be a nice deal. So win win.

Oh and they work on everything from the new Subaru frs thing to lambos. And my contact is a bimmer fanatic.

Next I am saving for the eurocharged tune......
