So I ran across this Imola Red w/Salvage title and decided to call the guy to find out what happened. According to the owner, car was stolen, recovered with the wheels and backseat taken - somebody loves the Natural Brown I guess. Bought at auction by current owner who has upgraded to an e60 due to more babies on the way.

I generally avoid salvage titles, though if the above is true and the car passes a PPI with flying colors - what's to stop me, other than that back seat.

$7K ?

Im really curious how they stole it. Ask the guy if he knows how. I thought these cars were very difficult to steal.

Three floorjacks and an empty road in the middle of the night?

I assume the one wheel had a lock on it?

Current owner already responded probably spare key - no ignition area damage and the car came with only one key.

Talk to your insurance about insuring a salvage title, and also your bank if you're considering financing it.

I would have no problem with a salvage title car as long as I paid some value far enough under clean market that I was confident I wouldn't get rooted when I passed it on. 7k is starting to sound about right.

.....that is provided she racks up straight/within factory spec and drives properly. If this story is accurate then this shouldn't be a concern.

also, exactly what norcalZman said - these cars aren't easy to walk off with.

So I called the guy selling the wheels - google voice account - heavy russian accent and couldn't tell me if he had 1 or 3 wheels left. sort of wierd.

Called the current owner right after - voices definitely different and not imitated. He's a nice guy trying to sell his car, though nice doesn't mean diddly.

Anyway, I guess it's all about getting it looked at...and the insurance. I wouldn't finance 7K.

If nothing else this is interesting.

Love this place!

So pulled the carfax on the car - it's had 2 other accidents and was a salvage three or more years before it was stolen. Too many skeletons, not worth my time anymore. Moving on...

Yeah, I'd definitely go through it with a fine tooth comb if I was looking to buy it. I mean, you'd be wise to plan on never selling it. Third owner after a salvage title is no bueno. Maybe you could get it for $5500 or so and make it into a hard top convertible? Or do something equally entertaining that only you would enjoy (and be our guinea pig for new ideas).

All great suggestions - unfortunately they took away my modders license a long time ago.

I could see using the a Natural Brown rear seat for entertaining - IF IT HAD IT. lol

Hmm.. hot tub? ;)

Do you really want to compete with the Subaru Baja?

Although I'm curious to see the custom back window. I imagine it looks very sh*tty but since they went all out on the gorgeous paint job, maybe not. Personally I would have gone with an understated color like pee yellow.

I took that picture while trying to be incognito, it is real and really well done. It is orange color boz, colorblind?

Oh yes, the Baja. I've got a friend who's got one of those. He's constantly referring to it as a "truck."

Um, No sir, that is no truck! I hate those things.

It might have to do with my current dislike for Subaru though? Most difficult engine for me to work on is that darn boxer engine. I don't miss our Outback, not in the least.

Sorry to thread drift!

If it was in GA I would be all over it as a daily driver for my son.
