View Full Version : aFe 54-10451 Oiled Air Filter
I received an email from Amazon today saying there was a deal on aFe intake system. The deal is $245 for the Stage 1 Oiled Filter. I would prefer the dry filter, but this seems like a good deal. Can't talk myself into pulling the trigger because it seems like a lot of money when my stock air filter does the job. I even tried to justify the cost by calculating air filter replacement intervals, but that doesn't create a compelling argument. I've heard arguments for letting the car breath a bit more and adding some torque and horse power, but the main argument was a better sound.
Any thoughts?

I can't say for sure that my AFE CAI actually made my car faster. Maybe 1 or 2hp gain. But it sounds so much better. Deeper growl at idle. Distinct CAI noise upon WOT. Also getting above 3000 rpms the car really sounds angry. It was grumpy before, now its angry. Plus you get the added eye candy. I bought mine 4 months ago and have no regrets. Running the dry filter.

^Exactly! I am running the oiled AFE CAI setup, and not sure that there is really a noticeable difference in power, though my mechanic commented that it sounded like my car was sucking up the sidewalk, which put a :biggrin on my face.

Yeah.....I was very careful in the cleaning and oiling process, and did it often....but kept pulling codes. I went to the dry filter, with pre-filter > No codes.

Finally ready to upgrade the intake. As the BMW Performance intake is at a ridiculous price, I will opt for the equally awesome Afe. Which model??

Pro 5R. Checking it out now, thanks. Is the Pro 5R a dry or oil filter? I want to use the dry filter.

It's the oiled filter setup, then I bought dry filter and prefilter.
They should have a dry setup.

Pip, any idea how long this is running? I am very interested in getting one.
Not sure but it looks like the store is selling "as long as supply lasts". I think there were 8 available the other day if you trust amazon's inventory tracking.
