Hello all, I need help determining which catalytic converters to buy, as well as where to install them. I have aftermarket headers w/ no catalytic converters. I want to place them somewhere on the exhaust, was thinking about cutting out the initial resonator and placing them there?

Thanks! :hi

magnaflow seems like the best idea

it is illegal to move catalytic convertors or reposition O2 sensors.

hmmm ok so running catless isn't illegal or what do you mean? I would assume running catless, running relocated cats or welding in a cats are all the same thing, correct?

welding in cats in the same location is probably okay as long as the cats are the correct cells. I do not know the laws in your specific state but I live in California the Smog Tyrants State. :)

yeah I know... IL is pretty strict too but they don't do visual inspection unless you don't pass the test.

That's very expensive! D: I wouldn't be able to afford that for a few weeks!

My car is registered in Winchester Virginia, they only do visual inspections out there, I will have find out if it is legal to relocate the cats or not, I hope it is :begging

yeah it is so probably best to go with one of the 1st ones and weld it in.

If you weld in or use these Magnaflow ones, do they include O2 sensor bungs or do you need to add those as well?

Mr. Hish, if you do not have any catalytic converters, then the codes mean the DME doesn't think your catalytic converters are working very well! Or if you removed the post-cat O2 sensors then the DME is saying your post-cat O2 sensors are not responding properly.

So far the solutions I have seen include
A) Get Euro DME tune that doesn't expect working post-cat O2 sensors
B) Keep headers, install cats in exhaust and reinstall post-cat O2 sensors
C) Replace headers with stock manifold (with cats) or aftermarket headers that include cats (like Magnaflow)
D) Just live with it and scan for codes periodically to make sure you don't have any other OBD-II codes

the more and more i read the more and more i don't care about cats and want to just do the bimmerbrake headers. i wish installing them wasn't so involving.

I installed them on my own, it was a pain, took about 9 hours of hand cramps, thanks for the help y'all.
