Driving to San Jose this morning made me realize one of my favorite times to drive is at dawn when there is hardly anyone on the road and the sun is just peaking up over the mountains. http://img.tapatalk.com/a6cd8a07-7f86-1c01.jpg

That's not a ZHP :shifty

Morning. Daytime. Evening. Doesn't matter. I love to drive any time of the day.

It my civic. I'm going shooting all day and then dropping it off at its new home. My dad is going to be using the car as his commuter :)

although I don't like to wake my ass up that early, dawn is the best time to drive. This is 5:19 am leaving my house so I could make it to Palomar Mountain

Depends on the time of year for me. On the morning or night of a summer day, it's nice to put the top down and go for a drive. On a nice spring or fall afternoon, it's nice to put the top down and go for a drive. :)

+1. Sometimes just as good as dawn... and there's no way in hell I'm getting up at dawn.

This. The summertime makes dusk feel so much longer. Besides, jet black has a distinct glow in lower level lighting.

Summer evenings during/after the sun sets. With the windows and sunroof open.

Cannot wait

I like mid day. Nice and sunny. 70 degrees. Windows down. Music up.

7 am Sunday morning. The roads are empty plus I'm a morning person in my old age.

For the ZHP, whenever the roads are a ghost town. Dawn, dusk, 3am, doesn't matter. Whenever it is just me and the car.

Back when I had the CJ-7, I'd say a nice summer evening/dusk was pretty tough to beat.

Kind of gets at what you're asking, I think, and is classic top gear cinematography. 5:37 and on is bar none my favorite top gear sequence ever....and just speaks to me deep down. "...the absolute joy of driving great car....on a great road."

I love to drive after 2am. No cars on the roads and I can get a little wild with the over steer.

This. Plus anytime I can put my top down... which is 95% of the time. :biggrin

Gotta go with summer sunrise... Love that feeling. Or a really late summer night when nobody is around and all the windows are open.

A summer evening driving down Red Arrow Highway in southwestern Michigan... maybe with a little detour to grab a bite to eat and drive along the beach for a while with all the windows down. Probably not the best "driving" road ever, but I really enjoy it :)

I really like driving at dawn just before the sun breaks the horizon. There's no one on the road at that time....it's just me, my car, and the road....total bliss :)

+1 for dusk/twilight! If on a road trip, everyone is usually off the road eating at this hour, so it can be a fantastic time to be on the highway.

I always loved driving on a cool summer night with the sunroof open and the heat on the bottom vent. Also, early morning is the best. Nobody is around!

If its Fall/Winter, I like driving in the evening with the temperature around 58F. The car feels stronger and w/out any other cars.

If its summer, I like driving with the windows down and the moon roof open and just cruise.

AMEN! That is what I love about Top Gear. The hilariousness of their usual antics combined with the ability to quickly transition to a profound thought that's extremely well-stated and well-illustrated. The US version has not been able to do this, yet, although it is quite funny in my opinion (and it keeps improving).

Back on topic, I really enjoy getting out at dawn. The open roads and the new day give a sense of excitement, the lack of traffic makes the roads safer and more free, and the cool, still air just begs to be cut by an M-Tech bumper! I recently retired from competitive running, but one thing I used to look forward to (maybe even more than the races) was the opportunity to simply drive to nearby races early in the morning on open roads. The backroads of Pennsylvania are great in the right conditions (although I still plan to get to the Isle of Man at some point... no traffic and no speed limits)!
