Just got my replacement lens covers http://imgur.com/3HSl1.jpg
And the seals
1: Do the headlights have to come all the way out to get to the lens covers?
2: Which side does the adhesive side of the seal go, on the lens cover, or the assembly side?

1. No
2. Assembly side?

Are you asking me what I mean by "assembly side" or are you just guessing that's they way it goes?

Why would the adhesive go against the lense?

Because I've clearly not gotten to do this before. I guess it will make more sense whe I get into it...

I don't know how long ECS Tuning has had them, but these were the Bosch brand covers for around 35 plus shipping. The seals were something like 12 a piece...

OK, now that I am on a full keyboard, I can explain a little more about my question on the seals...
Note, this is all assumption-based as I simply haven't had a chance to take off one of the covers. I simply thought that, since the mounting side of the lens cover is flat (no "tracks" for the seal to sit in), I assumed the adhesive portion of the seal would go to the lens cover. Again though, unless someone who has done this can chime in, I don't think anyone should really guess. I can guarantee this will be easily determinable once I actually get a lens cover off.
To Hornung: I've needed these for ages, and everytime I went to ECS, they only had the OEM covers, which are closer to like 80 a piece or something. Then, when I checked last week, I noticed they were carrying covers by Bosch. Those were 31.25 a piece, and the seals (which are not side-specific) were actually 18.05 a piece. After shipping, it was 109.83 for both covers and seals. I cannot wait to replace them tonight to confirmif the color differences in my xenons are because of the lens covers...

Well, I didn't get to do these yet. I started at it this weekend, and found out the "cover strips" (#9 here (http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=AV53&mospid=47725&btnr=63_0550&hg=63&fg=05)) were pretty gross and the rubber was falling apart. So now waiting for a pair of these to get here as well.

Your headlight are going to look brand new when you get done! I've done the same thing and it makes a world of difference.

I'm hoping so. As mentioned earlier, I have a strange mismatching coloring going on between the lights. Not too noticeable on the surface of where ever the lights are hitting, but when you look directly at the lights, one of them has a blue tint and the other a yellow tint, so I am really hoping it is just really crappy lens covers. I hope I remember to wipe down the inside of the covers before snapping them in, as my prints have gotten all over the inside while moving them around since I was not paying attention.

Pull the bulbs and compare manufacturers.
I was running a Phillips bulb and an Osram Xenarc bulb before I picked up a new set of Phillips 85112+. The color difference between the Phillips and Osram was noticeable. The 85122+ are unbelievably good and bright. Brand new quality bulbs ROCK.

Would that make sense if the color mismatch is a new "issue"? They matched perfectly fine when I bought it in 08, but I;ve noticed only over the last few months the slight color difference.

Yes, xenon bulbs degrade slowly over time. Quality bulbs can last 10 years. Color shift is known to happen over the life of xenon bulbs.
Any idea on how old yours are?

Likely stock. I bought mine in November of 2008 and was a single owner vehicle prior to me. Mine is an 03/2001 production run.
