I’ve seen a couple other members doing this and was recently reminded why its good to have a log of maintenance/observations.
Over the last couple of months my SES light has popped on, *Misfire:Cylinder 3. I reseated coils and got autozone to clear the code, then it popped back up 1 month later. I also had rough idle at startup on 2 very rare occasion. I happened to find my “I bought my ZHP today” post on e46fanatics and saw on one of the subsequent pages a note that I had oil in my 3rd cylinder while changing the plugs. My valve cover gasket was leaking oil onto the plug….misfire:DUH! I had completely forgotten. $$/time saved…I was about to start looking into coils.
So, dates and mileage might be a bit rough….but here goes:
Purchased 8/05/2010 93,220 miles.
PO had kept up with dealer maintenance as car was a lease. (records of 15k mile services, brake fluid exchange in '08)

08/15/2010 – 93,xxx – Changed cabin air filter
08/xx/2010 – 93,xxx – Black kidney grills, clear corners/markers, custom clutch stop
08/xx/2010 – 93.xxx – Painted amber section of rear lights red
09/06/2010 – 94,xxx – Coding done, ECU update, visual confirm, both beams on hi, (more?)
09/1x/2010 – 94,xxx – Dead battery, replaced with walmart battery
09/15/2010 – 94,xxx – Swapped shift knob back to ZHP style
11/xx/2010 – 9x,xxx – Scrubbed rubber coating off of cup holder to “refinish”
06/21/2011 – 107,xxx - Control arm bushings: Meyle HD, fuel filter
06/22/2011 – 107,xxx – Waterpump, radiator hoses, belts, idlers, coolant tank, t-stat/housing, fan switch, BMW coolant
06/23/2011 – 107,xxx – Oil/filter change(M1 0w-40), tranny fluid(RP synchromax), diff fluid(RP ??), attempted custom AUX input…and failed.
06/29/2011 – 107,xxx – Engine running lean SES light
06/30/2011 – 107,xxx - Cleaned MAF to find source of engine code, discovered ripped intake boot
07/01/2011 – 107,xxx - Installed upper/lower intake boots after much cursing, installed missing fog light trim
08/13/2011 – 108,xxx – ZHPmafia stickers “installed”
08/15/2011 – 108,xxx – Car started with rough idle (2nd time this has happened)
09/19/2011 – 109,xxx – 4 tires install:Conti DWS (2 flats on way to shop), 4 wheel alignment
12/xx/2011 – 110,xxx – Installed angel eyes from Modbargains
01/27/2012 – 112,xxx – Attempted custom AUX input again….failed (bad radio)
02/01/2012 – 112,xxx – Built custom CAI, cleaned alcantara steering wheel…wtf? Now it looks great.
2/3-5/2012 – 112,xxx – Refinished wheels:sanded, primer/base/clear, broke lug bolt
02/06/2012 – 112,xxx – Drilled out lug bolt, tapped/cleaned all thread on RR, one thread on RF
02/22/2012 – 112,223 – Valve cover gasket, VANOS seals/gasket, DISA seal
03/01/2012 - 112,678 - Hit bad pothole, tore sidewall, replaced LF tire
06/??/2012 - 114,xxx - Car picked up from dealer, AC not blowing cold, taken back to dealer
06/??/2012 - 114,xxx - AC recharged and picked up
08/31/2012 - 117,735 - Car would not start, no fuel pressure, diagnosed as fuel pump
09/01/2012 - 117,735 - Fuel pump replaced with OE part
09/06/2012 - 117,859 - Emission testing performed
I’ve probably missed a few things…so I’ll keep adding.
Need to address:
Change brake fluid
paint lower front grill
Scared of one day addressing:
Clutch
