Hey everyone, so I just took apart the valve cover off my car. I was so happy at what I found below, soooo clean! Obviously no sludge, but no staining at all either! I'm going to do the valve cover gasket and spark plugs tomorrow.

I think I'm gonna pass on VANOS seals right now, the car showed no signs of needing it at all. I have the parts to do it later on when needed. Opinions?

Beautiful.

How many miles on her?

I would do vanos. Already having a negative impact on performance even if you don't notice it, and will only get worse.

It's also nice to get it done and know that she's running the way she was meant to...

69k miles hehe

So those who have done VANOS and anti-rattle kit, how long (time) of a job was it?

Do it. 4-5 hours. You? You maybe have 3 hours left....total.

Yeah. You are already there now, at least do the vanos. If you have no rattle, maybe skip the anit rattle kit. But damn....ur so close to it already

Wow, that's clean!! :thumbsup +1 on doing at least the VANOS seals since you're most of the way there already; it really is a pretty straightforward procedure that should only take as much time as you want to spend on it (i.e. being methodical, double-checking instructions, OCD cleaning of each part, etc.).

Hey everyone, just came in from the garage, VANOS seals all swapped as well as anti rattle kit........

Throwing on the cover and new plugs in tomorrow morning, oil change and fire her up for the first time with fingers crossed :)

Once I get a little more cash in my pocket, I'll be buying the VANOS seal and anti-rattle kit. Beautiful stuff, Stathi.

So its all back together, fired up with no hesitation and sounds incredible! No rattling! :)

Is it normal to smoke a little bit, behind the motor, after changing the valve cover gasket? Thinking oil may have dropped down on the exhaust. Rechecked all around the gasket and it is very dry :dunno

The car pulls incredible smooth now though, my how great it felt to get back into the ZHP after 3 months!

Hopefully you got the vcg back on there properly and got the bolts all snivied up correctly. I do not think the smoke is normal, unless you know you put oil back there.

Hmmmm, all the bolts were torqued back to 8-nm. I have checked all around the gasket again and see no oil. I am stumped, hopefully i just spilled some oil and it will burn off? :dunno

OK. I just know... Where you are describing the smoke, is a ways away, from where oil would have been spilled. You're talking about the smoke coming from near the firewall, correct?

Well put abouot 150 miles on her last night. When I arrived, there was no smoke or smell. I will post up what I find after driving today, I almost smelled a hint of something this morning, but I am not hoping for it...
