Pictures from last weekend working on my car

finally getting around to loading some pictures from working on my baby last weekend. waiting on parts from ECS in order to complete the work...

First...
Removing the plate from the bottom in order to do the CAB's and i noticed oil...so i took off the front plastic too and behold...oil...a good bit of oil...

where the oil pan means the trans...oill...oil, oil everywhere.

First i thought it was the oil pan...but, after speaking with Dane and his comment on the oil pan gasket rarely failing, i went on the hunt..and it led me up the engine..

started taking off other things on a hunt for the source...it led me up here so I started to make moves to get to the CCV...

and i found it...after examining the CCV and it looked perfectly fine, i did some research and i have the tell-tale OFGH failure oil..

so now i'm waiting on a new CCV (just because i have everything off already, new OFGH, all tubes, gaskets, and i'm doing new belts while i'm there as well.

setting her back down after doing the CAB's saturday evening to wait till sunday to find the oil leak.

Great, great job. Are you removing the intake to get at CCV, or no?

don't plan on it. i figure with the fan, OFH, and Alternator out i'll have enough space to work.

basically, i'm going to get the rest of the stuff off (throttle body) like i'm going to do the CCV, then take off the radiator fan like i'm going to change the belts, then take off the alternator like i'm going to do the OFHG, then do the ccv, then do the OFHG and then put it all back together and start her up and do high speed runs on the highway...

or something like that.


to be honest, the biggest scariest thing i'm worried about is removing the fan...if anyone has any experience in this. if the parts come in and i do this next weekend, i may appreciate a hand. (thanks :) )


P.S. biggest pain in the ass? taking off the passenger side wheel. it was seized on so bad neither i or my dad could get it off. then i remembered back to what i had to do last time i took it off...i had to jack it back up, remove the jack stands (all with nolug nuts on) and then slowly lower the car till there is enough load on the wheel to pop it off...i added some grease again to the hub/back of the wheel to eliminate this in the future.

Don't sweat the fan at all. Are you talking mech or elec?

the DIY's seem to think that the fan is kinda tricky...idk. I'm just gonna be using a long crescent wrench as opposed to the BMW tool.

mechanical or electrical grease? mechanical. my dad has some from god knows how long ago. put a think coating on the hub and wiped off all excess.

No, Think he means mechanical or electrical fan. Your fan should be easy, as you have a manual. (i assume this, from the 6sp shifter you have?) :dunno

fan yeah electric. manual. is the bolt and what not only for the automatics?

OK...so you only have electric. Your shroud should be removed.......if not......3 pop rivets.....then to remove fan......it's i pop rivet, 1 torx, and unplug both electrical connectors on right hand (passenger) side.
