As mentioned in my New Member thread, I come from 2 E36 M3's, so they ZHP is a nice change! I took delivery of the car on Feb. 9th, finally fulfilling my dream of owning a ZHP.

Car details:
03; Silvergray
Silver Cube Trim
132k miles
Alcantara Interior
All stock (*despite red-clear-red tails)

My first modification - clear sides. I bought these for $13 shipped from an E46F member. Upon opening the box, I noticed the corners had a BMW part # type sticker on them. Can anyone confirm if they're OEM or not?

Thoughts on my side markers - they look a bit weathered. They are cheap to replace, but is it worth it? Wonder if I could take a headlight restoration kit to them.

Going to de-badge the 330i today.

Love the silver gauge rings.

Following images taken in the Oak Ridge Nat. Laboratory area (One word - SCARY!!).

Front bumper trim piece has been ordered to replace damage from PO.

I have a brand new ZHP knob ready to take the place of this E46 M3 shift knob (Why someone would replace a ZHP knob...on a ZHP, not sure..), but unfortunately, it seems the M3 knob has been glued on. Not sure what I'm going to do about this.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7178/6862772009_949fab794b_b.jpg

Ordered, but not here: Black grills, front trim piece, laminx fog light covers (2-12).
Here, but needs to be installed: ZHP Knob, UUC Clutch Stop.

looking good so far, keep it up. As for the p/n - maybe... but I would call a dealership and ask because when I replaced the ones on my Ci the p/n on the back of the light was not the same as the real p/n

Nice! What makes you think the knob has been glued on? Having come from E36s I'm sure you know the process and that they can be stuck on there pretty good....can you actually see glue?

You could give the alcantara restoration a shot, can't hurt much if you are definitely getting it rewrapped.

Pretty cool shots. I've rolled right through there a couple times on the way to Windrock.

I've tried to tear it off, my Father, my brother - no one can get the thing off. Twist, pull, tug, you name it, we've tried. Yeah, I might give it a try, but it's pretty rough. Did you sell your CSL's?

Second gear and pull straight up. 80 pounds of upward pressure, iirc. It can feel like it's on there pretty good.

If that doesn't do it, then it's on there with an adhesive-- which would suck.

Beautiful car. Best of luck with her.

+1 - I will also add this: open your sunroof and straddle the center console to give you some added leverage to work with

It also helps to put a pretty sharp impulse on it, not just a steady hard pull.

I did not sell my CSLs, they're stacked up in my garage. The tires are worn out, which the PO did not tell me until I was in Raleigh. TDBM, but bad on me for not asking for pics. You want em (wheels)? haha

Give that shifter another good tug! But don't pull straight upward towards your face lol.

And try the Magic Eraser sponge on your wheel before re-wrapping, just to be sure.

Nice car! Good luck with it!

Wiped off the steering wheel yesterday. Didn't spend hardly any time and made a world of difference.

Also, de-badged the car. Took quite a while, and I can still see the outline, but after a wash and a wax or buff I'm sure that'll be taken care of.

For my clutch stop I just kind of took a WAG on the position and locked it down. Just make sure you have definite play between the bottom of the pedal travel and the start of your friction point.

I ended up lowering it one full turn yesterday because I had what I felt was inappropriately high shift effort to get into gear from a standstill. Still trying to determine if it got better or if I was just freaking myself out.

I must say, I am LOVING the car. I have always wanted a ZHP, but was a bit nervous on how I'd like the transition from my highly modified M3. The car is just so smooth, the interior rocks, and you can't beat the looks. My brother might actually pop his M3 on the market and purchase a ZHP! My Dad parks his M5 and takes the ZHP every chance he can get (not much!).

On my 2006 the threaded hole that it goes into is not open on the other side so the UUC was too long to allow the car to start even all the way down. I didn't want to remove the clutch switch so I cut about 3/8" of the stop. Even then I had to forgo the lock nut and screw the stop all the way down against the floor for the car to start. At that point I'm only reducing the travel about 1" but it is still a tremendous difference in feel - in a good way. Still HIGHLY recommend the mod, second only to Shark.

William.

Stathi,
The facelift coupes had projectors as standard. Xenon was still an option. I've seen a few halogen-equipped E46 facelift coupes roaming around. There is no way to tell if the lights are off.

Halogens in ZHP trim are very rare. It seems most of the Performance Package cars had a good amount of options since it was in that price point where the buyers had the money to spare. That's why most of the non Performance Package cars had halogens; they were still in the $3x,000 range.

Will do, thanks.

To hop back on topic, what are my best options for wanting to switch to Xenons. I don't want to do the HID thing.

Should I try to source a pair from a wrecked E46 (facelift sedan)? I just need the inner part, correct? My headlight lenses are seriously perfect.

Also, has anyone had issues with Pelican Parts - I placed an order there 2 weeks ago and still have not got my shipment. My Dad has ordered Porsche parts with no issues.

My bank account shows they have processed my payment, but I didn't get an e-mail confirmation (didn't register). Hopefully the part was just back ordered or something.

Guys, working on a teenage budget and don't want to spend money on replacing wheels (Although Paul's offer was tempting!).

With that said, what are your opinions on powdercoating wheels, and what color or shade would you recommend?

johnrando
02-28-2012, 11:08 AM
I've always been a fan of gunmetal, but if you are going to powdercoat, maybe something custom and different than you can get buying "off the shelf" wheels.

WRT c/f splitters, could you provide a closer pic. Also, how much were they and did you like how they fit?

MiniD
02-28-2012, 04:18 PM
John,

Thanks for the input. As for the splitters, I bought them from Khoalty (whom I've been very pleased with so far). They cost about $125 or so. I will post some closer ones tonight. Khoalty has their opinion on fitment when you view different parts (One of the reasons I like them - clean website, honest, good product photos etc.) - they said the fitment was perfect in their opinion. I had them professionally installed and there are a few small, tiny fitment issues where the splitters might have a small gap, but unless you're beyond a perfectionist, for the $125 or so, the carbon weave, and the fitment is great and I love them. They totally changed the car for me and I love my front end!

I snapped this today. Car is a mess. Between work and school, no time to wash it and it doesn't help it rains every other day.

Dalton,

I simply drove from the shop, to a fast food place, to home. Tornados expected tomorrow. Full-run down can be expected Sat PM. Videos with the GoPro Sunday. It cost me $40 because I work at the shop in the pictures. I am pretty sure both resonators were removed (it's what's in the pictures). I do have the deep sound from what I remember. It did make a difference - like I said, I wasn't able to tell much because of my CAI. I actually was going to have my exhaust done today and do my CAI this weekend so I could feel the difference. Went this afternoon to lunch with my girlfriend and came back and the CAI was already installed on my car. Nope, no x-pipe. I didn't really ask questions, I just took the welders advice. He does work on high dollar Porsche racecars and hotrods. He has real talent. He also did the E60 M5 and E92 M3 in the photos.

Yes.. Mainly... Then the ghetto black part I plan to get fixed properly. The thing is this. If it gets messed up, I don't care. If it gets messed up after I repair... I'll be pissed.

That's the only reason I haven't fixed. In my opinion, it doesn't detract from the beauty, and I still DD it 100 miles each day.

Ever considered getting the whole thing resprayed, but with the lower 2 or 3" color matched in line-x? If you're pounding those kind of miles at your ride height I understand why you want something a little more robust down on the road surface.

We should have a "who DDs the most" thread. I think you won already though. I thought I was up there at 40-45/day.

As far as DD concerns go - I do a lot of driving. Between HS, girlfriend's house on opposite side of Knoxville, work, the miles have gone up rather quickly.

I haven't been updating lately because I've been busy. I still need to do the videos of my new exhaust-intake set up. I bought a suction cup mount for my GoPro just for it!

I bought some ACS replica pedals from a buddy at Cars and Coffee Saturday, and I still have to install my carbon fiber grills. I had a bit of a boo-boo pulling in the garage last night (yeah, yeah..), but everything seems to be OK!

BTW - As far as rock chips go, I'd be lying if I said that wasn't a factor in getting rid of my crazy modified E36 M3 (for the ZHP). I didn't want to get the front end re-sprayed because it was old, and black, and a difficult black at that (Cosmos).

I'm so stoked. I just received my pedal set today and the dead pedal bothered me as they usually looked 'tacked on'. When I Google'd it it came up on Turner:

http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-2727-e46-sedan-m-aluminum-footrest-dead-pedal-4-door-only.aspx

but it says in uppercase - "NO 2 DOOR COUPE OR CONVERTIBLE"

It is a different part number on ECS though. Ordering one now...

William, I'm not 100% sure but some dead pedals, like the M3, recommend removing your old one completely and replacing it. Others, like mine, you just screw on top of the old and it looks just fine. EDIT: couldn't get a better pic off cell phone with car in garage. BTW, the seat doesn't look like that, it's just light reflecting.

Pretty proud of myself. Not going to lie - I'm no mechanic, but I feel accomplished!

For something that seems somewhat easy, it was difficult (in the beginning). The OEM E46 M3 dead pedal will look sweet next to my ACS (rep) pedals!

I found this DIY on E46F to be the most helpful - http://www.e46fanatics.com/howto/howtodetail.php?howto_id=16.

Now for the photos. It's weird; the dead pedal looks like it's uneven in the photos, but I think that's because it's rounded to the side of the car.

Here's the carnage. The OEM dead pedal was a bit worn and was broken. I first attempted at trying to rip it out, then decided to google a DIY, haha.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7256/6855636316_ee089d2400_b.jpg

After removing the screws, you have to take off the door trim piece. This is vital! If I knew this, I would have finished quicker.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7242/6855636118_35cff17508_b.jpg

Don't forget to check if the cabin hood latch pops the hood!

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6056/7001751225_27e0feae7f_b.jpg

Finished and installed.

This morning I saw an e46 on CL, sent him a txt asking him if he would be interested in trading my ZHP wheels for his CSLs. He later responds he totaled his car last night. I ended up getting a KILLER deal on a set of staggered CSLs. Now my plan is to run my new CSL's and save up to have my 135's completely re-finished and then sell my CSLs for a pretty big profit. They also came with new tires.

I plan to get an oil change this week + the euro coding on the lights.

Also, any help related to the question in my last post regarding my tail lights would be greatly appreciated!

Wow. May I ask how much you got the CSL's for? Were the BMW or replicas?

Regarding the tail lights... look for BMW markings like part numbers. If they're depo, I believe that there would be DEPO markings on the inner bottom of the tail lights that are on the body (not the trunk ones)

My trunk pieces are fading AND leaking water.. so I'm looking for replacements. Just hard to find those without having to purchase the whole kit.

Front the looks of it, that 25mm spacer will push the entire wheel 1inch out. Measure how much room you have. I think the rim will most likely poke out and look a little funny based on the pictures you have currently. The rims look great!

car looks great--but those are the wrong clear front lights. those are the silver ones that match 03 330s with silver headlight trim. you need the black corners. the front end will flow much better! turner sells the right ones

Didn't do it on purpose, I just got them for $6 shipped off E46F. I don't are if they're pink, they're $6 and they're OEM!

Gotcha. Add these to your wishlist then. :thumbsup. You'll like the front end of your car a whole lot better.

TMS sells OEM corners. BTW, ULO is the OEM Manufacturer of these:

Also noticed that you bought the Autozone bulbs for the lights. Those glow blue, right? Save up for some silver that bulbs that blink amber (legal):

Part # 63120420391. The individual bulbs for front / rear are (type 7507-for use with OEM clears) part # 63217160897 if you need to replace a single bulb...

They glow just white/clear. They don't care in Tennessee. If I keep the car I'll look into those corners!
