Bad luck: tire blow out / wheel damage - advice ?

Talk about rotten luck... 4 days ago I get new Michelin Super sport installed, today Ka-blamo... Ironically, I avoided a 2x4 falling of a truck on the freeway, only to fall to a piece of "come along" on the road 1 mile from my house... Bang, Pshhhhh, pull to the left, done. I drove the last mile at 20 mph because I had to get the kid out of daycare in time...

Emergency car change with baby seat swap - never thought I'd have the kid in the cayman but thankfully the airbag is switchable.

So, the damage... The metal buckle of the come-along hit the sidewall and tore out a chunk, but it also dented my wheel a little...

Well, to be exact it took a chunk of the lip and deformed the outside edge a tiny bit, there is a dimple - well more like a bump... But the *inside* of the lip, where the tire bead seals, is intact. So I *think* I'm OK with that wheel for now... I'll know for sure tomorrow...(it it's still true and if it seals).

What do you think?

I'm good on the tire (1st time in my life I buy road hazard!!!) but not so good if I need a wheel... Is that the wheel ?

I think the rim is fine as long as theres not a "hidden" hairline crack somewhere. Tire is toast...yes.

If the damage is a bother to you, I am sure that a good wheel shop could fix it for you. I just had some of mine repaired by a shop near Baltimore, MD, but I am not sure what part of the country you are in, so that may not be a help if you are 3,000 miles away. Damage was similar to a few of my wheels to do some bonehead at the tire shop chewing up the wheels upon the last tire install.

I'm not worried if its just cosmetic. But the gouge made a bump on the outside, so I was concerned the wheels was toast. But the inner lip seems fine. Fingers crossed !

Yes, just be very, very selective about who changes your tires!! Even more frustrating when I specifically asked if the 135's would be a problem. :mad:

Good to know, thank you... There seems to be some confusion as to the wheel style and designation... Our ZHP wheels are M3 wheels, yes ? I saw one identical to mine, but it did not have the ///M on it, that mine has... I'm still hoping I don't need to replace it. They didn't seem to think so, but had the wrong replacement tire in hand... (right size, brand, wrong model)

the style 67 M-doublespoke (most common M3 wheels) came in both 18 and 19

The 18" and 19" wheels are two different wheels. They look different, but for some weird reason, have the same Styling number. Weird.

Good news! The wheel is OK, and the tire was only $40 after road hazard insurance. The wheel is not the prettiest thing anymore, but at least it can wait for some cosmetic refurb... I noticed those tires are so sticky they pick up little gravel like gum... They are almost track tires, might be overkill here, but...

The differences are ever so subtle to many, but to me they look obviously different. In particular, the 18" version has a lip, while the 19" version doesn't really have anything that qualifies as one. Also, the finish on the 19 seems to be different, sort of like a polished finished, as opposed to a hypersilver finish of the 18.
The face of the wheel on the 19 gives an appearance of being more straight, even though the curves that are there are similar. Overall, the 18" wheel has more topographical features while the 19 is more of a straight "clean" look.

Correct you have the M Double Spoke 135 (part number 361 178 96470).
