Hello, I have a 2005 330CI with the ZHP package. I would like to change my ATF fluid, filter, and gaskets. I am familiar with the process of the change and everything but I am unsure of which model transmission I have or which fluid I need. I went under the car and took a picture of the sticker on the transmission which I will post. The P/N on the transmission is 83220024359. Also, depending on the type of transmission, does the filter for example vary and what color transmission label do I have, green or blue? Your help is greatly appreciated. thanks

There should be a tag showing tranny type. Metal tag I think. Check again under car. Think its a metal tag?

330 with auto would fall under ZF category, no?

"The part number 83220024359 says that you have GM transmission that requires Dexron VI Texaco ETL-8072B or analog fluid."

From this post (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1657772)

EDIT: The guys car from the thread is an 05' 325i, so you may have a different transmission because your car has the ZHP package. I don't know about the automatics.

I have a gm tranny (auto). I dont know if that is across the board for zhp's or not. they had two trannys they used during our production periods (e46). I dont know if zhp's had an exclusive tranny or not. get back under that girl and look again!

Does this help?

If so, let me know which is yours and I can tell you the fluid. Also attached is where the label should be

Scroll down to page 28. This might help. (http://www.bmwtech.ru/pdf/e46/ST034/12%20Automatic%20Transmission%20Internet.pdf)

I think you might have looked at the wrong sticker.

It looks to me like that part number is showing the type of fluid to use for your transmission. Checking here.....

http://www.bmwmercedesparts.com/parts/index.cfm?searchText=83220024359&make=BMW&action=oePartSearch&siteid=215771

It comes up as a 25 liter jug of ATF for $260.63. Realoem.com says "part not found" and BMWfans.info says "production discontinued." But if you check that number at Pelican Parts it supersedes to this stuff......

http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/smart/more_info.cgi?pn=83-22-0-397-114-BOE&catalog_description=Genuine%20BMW%20Part%3A%20BMW% 20OEM%20Part

Part number: 83220397114

EDIT: I think your best bet is still finding the correct label so you know for certain. Just searching Pelican for E46 ATF doesn't even bring up that part number/fluid type.

EDIT 2: searching that 7114 part number at my first link shows it to be Dexron VI (6) and searching the same number at BMWfans.info says "Fur das GM6 Automatikgetriebe."

According to this chart, and referencing the p/n I found on my tranny, and the color the chart references the p/n too, I believe I have a GM A5S 390R.

That realoem diagram means you have a GM unit. You need to check the color label it has on it to make sure you get the right fluid. Here is a chart I found.....

ATF fluid type labels
• Orange . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Dexron III
• Yellow . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Texaco ETL 7045E
(BMW p/n 83 22 0 026 922)
• Green . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Texaco ETL 8072B
(BMW p/n 83 22 0 024 359)
• Blue . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Esso 71141 LT

According to AllData, for your car, use ESSO ATF LT 71141 BMW 83 22 0 002 121 should be used, but it also says to check the label. I posted a picture showing you exactly where the plate is, should take all but 5 minutes to do it, including time for jacking up the car.

Here is my label, do you think that is blue or green? There is also the P/N on it.

That is realllly hard to tell as it is almost turquoise. As mentioned, if you can get to the ID plate, this would be easier.

Yes, I think you are correct as the part numbers correspond.

Yes, I should get the metal id plate. It's just I don't have a jack set at the moment and the car is very low to the ground in general.
