View Full Version : Master List of exhausts for the ZHP/330i
UdubBadger

Didn't see anything, thought it would be a great sticky to have for easy info on what exhausts (mufflers, catbacks, midpipes, headers...) are availabe, some reviews on what you have on your car and some description of what they sound like (or videos are good too). When buying an exhaust it's hard to choose what you want because you just DON'T KNOW until it's on the car. By sharing our experiences with some we can help each other come to a better educated decision of what you/they are buying before they make a mistake or don't like it.
Lets start a list of whats out there right now and maybe if you have one of them, post a short review about the sound - the more unbiased and informative the better.

I have a UUC TSE3 exhaust, made by Corsa.
The sound is very aggressive. It's a growl more than anything when in lower rpm ranges, but when reaching the upper range it's more of a power sound. I can't explain this power sound, but if I was to hear it from the outside, I'd say the car sounded powerful.
I've had a couple of people tell me it feels a tiny bit faster but personally I haven't felt the same thing. I guess it's because I'm used to the car.

Rogue?? I'm planning on getting the DMS which is their "middle" exhaust. We have the Ikon exhaust on the 325i. I like it a lot. Deep, very natural sound, imo.
It goes, Ikon, DMS, El Diablo (M-only)
And they're only a few miles from me. They manufacture and install it themselves.

Good rumble, nice high rpm sound, and as advertised no drone on the highway. I can still hear it on the highway whicn has made me consider quieting it down with a borla...

I love the sound of the UUC, I'm just thinking about it from a long trip comfort standpoint (more than 4hrs...) I just drove across the country in my dad's camry and the silence is nice when you're driving 16hrs in a day. A set of E46 M3 seats in my car would be more welcome for comfort IMHO than a different exhaust but that's for another thread...
The borla seemed closer to stock and was what I was originally going to get since I was going for a subtle sound. I got a sweet deal on the UUC and couldn't pass it up. I don't regret it, I think I'm just getting older I guess and don't want to attract as much attention...
For the driving I do now, it's just fine since I only drive up to LA and back at the most...
For the best sound, I don't think you can beat this system but I've only heard the borla and dinan in person.

RoverT has the SS exhaust IIRC.
I'm still debating on doing a resonator delete. If anything, I'll do a first resonator w/ an x-pipe. No muffler delete for me since I love the really low sound that the muffler expels at around 2k RPM

I posted this in the "what did you do for your bmw/zhp section", but I figured it belongs here too.
I met Joe (bimmeroyta) yesterday and he played that beautiful music known as the UUC TSE3 exhaust. Holy s*#!, that thing is glorious. Imma goona get me one. It's the way a car should sound. As for the folks who say it's too loud, I'm not sure I get that. Everyone has a different tolerance, but I was expecting TOO LOUD. For me, it's perfect... quiet at idle and a beast at revs.

Just got back from the solvang trip...Good thing you didn't hear it when it was missing that morning! The smell, sound and sputtering was killing me...and about to break my heart looking forward to the long drive. I almost wasn't going to drive it but I figured the trip would clear out whatever was going on...nothing to really speak of but I'm going to keep my eye on it. I'll post something later in the mechanical section on that.
On thing I remembered is that the only time it's louder than what you heard is when it's cold. After it's warmer, it gets pretty calm. Glad we were able to meet up!

That's expensive... especially for a muffler. IMO, keep the single sided muffler. Cars with exhausts on each side of the diffuser look weird to me.

its actually not that bad considering the costs of all the dual sided stuff for the newer BMWs (135/335)

That's not how the newer 135/335 exhausts set-ups are though, right? With the passenger side sprouting off of one of the exhaust tips on the left side w/ the muffler?
The above set up seems kind of pointless to me. It would only be for aesthetics, since you'll get almost no flow to that other side since it originates off of an exhaust tip instead of right before the actual muffler.

Yup. I posted a review of it on E46fanatics, which I can link you to if you want (just PM me), I just think it is too loud overall. The zhp is the classiest E46- and the TSE3 makes it a bit too much of an M wannabe imo, not fitting to the character of the ZHP at all.

I am not necessarily looking for cheap more of just my perfect sound for the best price.
For instance I love the sound of the stock exhaust I just wish it was a little louder.
If I can get that tone by removing a resonator and replacing it with an x pipe then awesome. But if that will just make it sound like crap then I will save my money and get the magnaflow catback.
Make sense? Lol I fully admit I'm bad at explaining things.

Ya makes sense but that's not how it works.
To alter stock exhaust sound you'll want either headers or a velocity stack. Removing resonators wont do what you think.

Ok so the link doesn't work from my phone. But going through the app on my phone I found your short and that doesn't sound too bad.
Do you have any clips of it under load?

+1. I love the sound, but to really get a feel for an exhaust, you need sound clips under load.

Gotta say the tse3 light is even damn awesome sounding. The resonators help control it a bit. I think with headers an keeping them in place this car is gonna sound amazing!

Since when? Umnitza specializes in other stuff, I've never heard of them as an exhaust company. If anything this sounds like a copy of the Eisenmann exhaust

Looks like a decent system, but I don't see full cat back in the picture like they claim. Seems to only be a muffler and pipes for both sides. Plus you'll probably need to weld in something to hang the far side.

not sure I'd like quads on an E46 unless it was centered like the M3

Went thru a bunch of tunnels today on the Blue Ridge Pkwy, Active Autowerks exhaust sounded wonderful at 5k+. Messed up the recording sorry. Will try again if hit another with no cars but me.

Eisenmann + Schmeidmann setup. Maybe a little loud, but IMO, best exhaust note I've heard so far.

That does sound pretty darn delicious. Reminds me of I6 engines out of vintage cars from the 60s or 70s (or what I imagine them to be, like old Jag I6s)

If only that eisenmann setup wasn't so expensive
While I like the sound of the exhaust, I think it makes the car sound more powerful/faster than it is, which I personally don't like...

Total cost for setup is about $1,695.00. Not really that bad and only a bit more than the Corsa setup.

With product models and small manufacturers getting phased out, what are the current opinions? If possible provide brand and model.

Used to have the aFe catback, got a video here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XnwNDHwrkNA
It was good but a very unsophisticated sound for the price. I actually got a stock ZHP exhaust last year and find it better. The mechanical engine sound is really good anyway, I think it's better to make that louder instead of the exhaust. At least that's what I did and I prefer it compared to what I had.
