View Full Version : Finally, someone recognized the plate

It's been a few months since I've had the "E46 ZHP" plates on and I have not encountered anyone who understands what it means beyond people I know. Until last night.

We had our school play running this weekend. Sitting in my office, getting some work done before show time, I spied a beautiful E38 M-sport pull up. That's the beauty of my office - full view of the parking lot and my car. Anyway, a gentleman gets out of his E38 (which is my favorite 7), and takes a walk around my car. He comes into school (he's a parent, helping with the production) and starts to ask around "Where's the assistant principal who has the E46 ZHP?" His search was aided by the sign on my parking spot.

When he finally found me, we launched into that BMW conversation we all know so well. We went over the cars we've had, the cars we want, our hatred of some of the new BMW trends, and we discussed the CCA, track days, cloth interiors, the beauty of the E34 wagon, the legend of the E30, oil change intervals, winter tires, runflats, etc... It was great - he's a true kindred soul who thinks a ZHP might be his next car.

Now I just need the dude who has the Silverstone E39 M5 to come looking for me! That conversation will consist of: "Hi, do you want to trade cars???????"

How is it that the e39 and the e46 still refuse to look like they're aging?

How's this for a find - friend of mine got an E34 euro M5 in technoviolet with grey alcantara interior, debadged from the factory. Shwing!

OK, we know it's not special but I have to say, to me, it's not "just" a car.

That's the best color combo for that M5, I love techno violet.

That's also an awesome talk you had with the 7 series owner. Still the only types of conversations I get are. Is that your parents car or you must be rich :facepalm

That sucks. I get that in my job from colleagues, but not the parents part. They say, "Wow, bright red BMW, what a statement." I say, "It's not bright red, it's Imola."

Then you should punch them in the face. :) Just so they don't forget.

Nice! I wish someone in my state didn't already have that one. I am about to order my personalized plates. All the good one's are taken, but not ZHPEE. Funny and informative, right?

Oh yes...those non-car people harassing you about your Bimmer, and they are rolling in their Escalade, Range Rover, or "Lincoln" pickup. Yea, forget that argument. A good left hook may just begin to knock some sense into them.

Left hooks draw too much scrutiny.

Quick palm strike right to the solar plexus.

Works every time... um, err, so I've heard. :innocent

YES! My other car is an R53, just like yours. It looks like you're in NJ, too. Where?

What brings another MINI enthusiast to these parts? No doubt you'll find this playground a bit more comfortable than some of the MINI internet haunts.

Im in bergen county. I came here because my father is looking for a new car, particularly a ZHP. Trust me, when/if he gets a ZHP, Ill be borrowing it more than hed like! I'm also just a big BMW fan, more-so than a MINI fan. I really just like the R53, all of the newer mini's dont do it for me as much. But I LOVE my R53.

Any work done to yours? I see it has the JCW bumper is it a JCW? Mines relatively stock

edit: oh and im on NAM (north american motoring)

Actually the other day I saw an imola red ZHP sedan in fair lawn my home town. I also saw one in teaneck or bergenfield too.

It's got the dinan s1, no jcw. It's the stock "aero" kit that was part of the jcw kit but also an option on base S models. I've also got coilovers and an all around track-oriented suspension setup.

I feel exactly as you do regarding r53 vs everything else. The new mini roadster looks amazing, but I specced one out and it came to close to 40k!!!!! Screw that!
