+1 - short interval if tracking, at most 10k if just driving around town but usually around 7k

I change it when I can no longer see through the oil, which is basically 5k.
I change trans and diff every 30k, Redline in both...

Every 5k on all my cars, synthetic only, Mobil1 in the GMCs, BMW bought Castrol in the E46s. Also on the E46s, in addition to the oil filter o-ring, there are little tiny o-rings on the oil filter cover, on the stalk, check this as they get hard, I change them at least every other oil change which is probably overkill.

7.5 k. That article doesn't make sense to me. Do we really think that as a society the ignoramuses out there change their oil TOO OFTEN? I drive the NJTP every day and can't tell you how many cars I see spitting out the unmistakable scent of poor lubrication, not to mention the engine fires which probably have something to do with metal moving quickly over metal with nothing in between.

I think 9/10 people see their new car's longer oil intervals and have a minor holiday. We, the enthusiastic, look at it critically and seek out the truth (hence those of you getting your oil analyzed). In the absence of science, we play it safe (7.5 k or so) with a healthy distrust of BMW and a fear of what's going on in the engine.

Edit - the above sounded like it's a bad idea to do BMW's 15k oil intervals. I haven't seen objective data to support this that I can remember, so for all I know, it could be fine.

5K just because it makes sense. I personally think that the newer oils are good for 10k, but am suspect of the filters. (have cut a few in half and did not like what I saw!). Besides, oil is cheap in the big scheme of things!

When I had my E46 I bought it in 5 Quart Jugs, made it alot cheaper.

Just be lucky it's cheap. I'm at $12.50 a Liter.

The $9.29 M1 is at my local Pep Boys in Philly. Usually I buy oil at the dealership for $6.75, but sometimes you need oil in pinch.

I usually buy the 5qt , like Monkey, at Wal-Mart though and they run ~$27. However I had the hardest time finding them this past oil change (12/30/11). Might have just been because it was the end of the year though.

I usually call around till I find the lowest price then buy it 5 minutes on the phone can save ya 5-6 bucks
