View Full Version : Most money you guys would spend on wheels?

Just so I can see if I can get everyone's opinion just for the hell of it. What's the most you guys would be willing to spend on wheels assuming they would be on a daily driver. I recently had an argument with a friend who wants to buy 4000 dollar wheels but would only throw them on maybe two to three times a year for a day or two at the most. I felt like that would be a major waste of money!

I had 19-inch BBS LMs on my 335. About $5,000 (not including tires). I left them on year round. This was not my daily driver, though. If it had been my daily, I still would have put these wheels on. I buy what I like. I really don't care how much use, one way or the other, my car gets.

Bingo.

I spent $550 for another set of OEM wheels and put $1,200 worth of tires on them.

I almost dropped about $4000 on wheels for a set of semi-custom wheels. Got cold feet but I got as far as talking with both the manufacturer and designer into building them. Oh well. Probably would only drop about $2500 right now though

So then is 4k something you think is a reasonable price to pay for wheels you really like? I love both of these wheels but they're in the 4k to 5k price range. Definitely something I'm not getting anytime soon but it is always fun to consider. Not feeling the overall colors but I love the looks of both wheels.

$4k IMO is a lot for wheels and if I did spend that kind of money I would have those things on there everyday, I wanna make sure everyone sees them and get my moneys worth buy rolling those suckers, there not making money sitting in the garage.

It would probably not spend more than $1,500 for wheels for the ZHP, but that is me. And at $1,500 they would need to be exactly what I want. But I am putting in a stereo right now and I am going to spend more than $1,500. And if I had more money to spend on it, I would but bigger and higher grade amps and speakers, would probably end up around $4K to $5k. And then there are people that drop $15K in performance mods and use $1000 wheels.

When it comes to cars, we are all eccentric in one way or another.:roundel

And if I am going spend big money on wheels it would be the Advan RS

$2500 is tops for me, and at that price I'd better be tracking. Had a friend who put some $6000 wheels on his 335i and bent one of the rims as he pulled away cuz his tire didn't inflate and he didn't notice it was flat as he pulled out of the driveway, hit the small curb to the median to cross traffic and BING, nice bend in it, cost him a few hundred to fix it then he sold um at a $500 loss.

Wheels are nice, but I'm 100% fine with some VMRs.

I would never spend more than ~$1500 on a set of brand new, awesome looking wheels. Even that is borderline waste of money IMO.

as they say, "depends."

If they're financially reasonable for me at the time, I don't know that I would set a hard and fast limit. Right now the number would be very low - the ZHP doesn't really justify it nor are the finances in that kind of shape.

The fitment for some cars sometimes just demands very high dollar wheels, Pcars especially.

That said, getting up over $4k with rubber is pretty damn expensive. Having come from the offroad world where $5000 gets you the best of the best of the best, hearing about that dude dropping $6k on just wheels is pretty crazy. Sounds like he should pony up another $30 for a good pressure gauge too :biggrin

$2000 for rims with tires.

I think there are a number of key factors

1] What car -- my threshold for the ZHP would be much lower [probably 2500 ish max] than say on a new 911[whatever it would take to give me what I wanted]

2] What I can realistically afford - if buying the wheels matters to my budget would spend less so it's really discretionary dollars.

$1200 is my absolute maximum so far. There are plenty of good quality wheels to be had for less than my specified amount, which is probably why I'm so cheap.

Heck, that $1200 I spent on my current wheels include purchase price and complete refinishing of all 4. Lol

I just wish BBS' weren't so damned expensive. I'd love me some BBS. :)

yeah there was some reason the wheel didn't inflate, the tires were so low profile it was hard to even tell if they were inflated or not. He didn't double check, his dumb ass fault.

The price of rims really depends on the car to me. Is it going to be daily driven is the other concern.

Daily driving in CA can take a beating at times (some roads not all).

If it is on the e46 I would be willing to pay around $1000 for rims and the same for tires. My cars are not seeing the track and living around 8 miles from work does not really affect me with a few lbs. on a rim.

Okay so how about this one! Where in terms of priority would you place getting wheels in comparison to other mods?

UdubBadger
01-05-2012, 03:58 PM
on a lot of other cars it'd be one of the first but the 135's look nice to me so I'd be inclined to wait a bit on them.

For the ZHP? $0.00

She'll go to Bimmer Heaven with the 135s...

I agree with this. But I've been contemplating getting new rims, I'll only spend about 1k max. But when I do get rims, I won't let go of my 135's. They'll always be around because I'm sure I'll get sick of other rims on my car. But the 135's belong on our zhp's. Plus I'm really weird about separating things from my car.

always good to hang onto the stockies for resale eventually, even if they just collect cobwebs.

The style 135's are a great looking rim. It sets the ZHP apart in terms of styling.

If you want to mod put suspension work, add ipod, your car is fast enough and stock exhaust sounds great.

Suspension work, and maintanence or up keep, you will be thankful later on down the road.

I love the 135's. In the case that I were to purchase new rims, although that's very low in priority, I would always keep the 135's. They're stunning wheels and I always get complimented because of them.

I'm with you in that one. I actually want to get them redone since they've been curbed by previous owner. $2000 is the max I would pay for tire/rim combo. Unless they were Non-M Work VSXX fitment. Then I would pay $2000 for the rims itself :X

Whatever the cost of the Apex Arc8s are...only rims I could justify saving up for.

The 44s I have are classic and the second lightest OEM wheel offered for the e46, after the staggered M68s, of course!

About $1000 give or take a little. If money was less of an object, about $2500. But in reality, I recently spent $600 on a duplicate set of 135s WITH good performance tires, so now I can go w/a square setup.

$4k is my limit for wheels and will be pulling the trigger on the purchase really soon. It does seem like a lot of money, but wheels are transferrable, meaning if I get another BMW it is not money lost. So the weight strength and style will definitely be a major factor in my upcoming purchase.

I too really love the 135s. Pretty sweet for a stock rim. Thinking about getting the Style 68s for the e36.

i'm kinda cheap when it comes to wheels, but it really all depends on what you're using them for. if you have a badass ferrari, yeah spend 10k on wheels. if you have a 10k car, no sense in spending much more than 2-3 on wheels and tires. i certainly wouldn't daily wheels that cost me an arm and a leg.
