Doing research for the ski bag (for UdubBadger)....I ran across some info I wanted to earmark.
Realoem drawing leads one to believe part (pass through cassette) is not readily available.....but....oh wait....it certainly is. Read on....

So...if you want to perform this DIY > Perform the below steps.
I. Order parts.
The entire assembly, with bag is available through ECSTuning....and probably others. P/N is 72608215262.

II. Knock out rear pass through door using the below DIY.
There are a ton of "Removal DIY's and it looks like most are doing this to install subs.
http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=872526
III. Install pass through casette ordered in step I.
I have no specific direction here, and would need to update this when someone does this DIY, or if someone else finds said info, I can update. Either way works. It shouldn't be that difficult (to install) regardless.
Other info I found while looking around.
Here is the cassette and P/N. Good info/pics throughout the thread.

Just gives a guy an option at cars that don't have ZCP. I think I remember someone looking for a ZHP with this option...ummm.....can't remember who it was though.

Can we just "knock" out the center piece in our cars too? The DIY said it was done on a pre-facelift car. Is it the same on ours? I'd be interested in doing this and putting in the pass through since the sub I just installed has to be cranked up to actually be heard in the cabin. I'd also use this for my skis though and just general convenience.

I don't know if this helps but I have fold down seats and the ski pass (with the bag and everything) but the ski pass hole isn't punched. So if I ever wanted to use it, I'd have to cut out the hole cover. Weird. I easily popped it out on my old 323 for sub woofer reasons.

That is weird. For my fold down seats the ski pass is a part of the seat - no knock out or anything in the way. When you say the hole isn't punched you mean in the back surface of the folding seat?
My parents e34 they had the ski pass installed after purchase, there was a perforated knockout in the rear seat metal bulkhead (actual chassis), but no folding seats.

I just bought the part used. Should be here in a week. Going to install it when I have the back seat apart for a stereo install. I paid $185 with shipping.

I called this morning to see if they had it and the guy quoted me $400. I told him I thought $150 was more appropriate. He told me $150 plus shipping of $35. I caved.

When I am doing "spirited" drives and get on the brakes hard the middle console pops down and shortly after the ski pass pops down and starts to unroll. PITA! I don't ski and doubt I will ever haul lumber in the ZHP. Even if I did I would just FOLD DOWN the seats.

I don't have fold down seats and I can't fit my golf clubs in the trunk without taking all the woods out of the bag. Plus I am going to pop the ski-pass out anyways for a subwoofer, so I want something to put in there so I don't just have bare metal. I live in Texas, so I have no clue about what to do with the ski-bag. The bag will probably be for sale in a week.
All that said, if I had fold down rear seats, I would think the ski pass is worthless too.

ski pass with fold down seats is worth its weight in gold if you have more than 2 people that want to go skiing.
I guess you can always get a rack, but we used the one in the e34 often.

Just got off the phone with the used parts supplier, the one they thought they had was too damaged to send me. They are refunding my money.

Ok so I got the ski cassette today and knocked out my center piece and took the foam off. I took off the bag for now to try and see how it will fit. The trunk lining will need to be cut and tucked away but for now here's a fitment picture. the knockout is much larger than the cassette.
Also the one I received is nothing like the one in the ECS pictures. This one doesn't have a backing to keep the bag in the cassette, it also isn't tapered at the top or anything like that.

I don't have a bimmerfest account. Could one of you ask him if there was a back with it at some point?

Not sure why the ski pass isn't the same size. The pictures of the ski pass in the ad should have tipped you off that this wasn't the same pass ECS sells, it was an oem one from my ZHP. The bag is held in place by the strap which you sort of fold up and then the actual cover plate holds it all into place.
Judging from the pics I would run some small machine screws through the lower and upper pieces of plastic to hold it securely in place. As for the sides it should be fairly easy to buy some type of pipe insulation or other type that would nicely cover the sides and seal up the gap. Such as below....

If not, I can refund you the difference of the ski pass. (you paid $30 shipped, less paypal fees so I actually received $28.66 and shipping was a little over $16 so you would be due $12.66 which I can send as a gift so you don't get dinged fees).
