ZHP Mafia and the C Withers Media Group in San Francisco -- January 13-15, 2012

Four guys (Albert, John, Casey, and I) from ZHPMafia.com will be in San Francisco from January 13-15, 2012. We'll be there shooting up the city. If the trip is anything like our Las Vegas trip, we won't be getting much sleep.

We're going there with a couple of agendas: to take great pictures of the city and surrounding areas and to hang out with good friends at the same time.

If any ZHP Mafia members want to hook up with us while we're in San Francisco, let us know. Feel free to join us while we are taking pictures (bring your camera). Or feel free to catch us while we're enjoying a little down time between pictures. We'd love to meet as many people from the site as possible. Understand, though, that we're like a roving band. We don't stay in the same area too long. What's more, we're hanging out in the city so that we can capture the essence of it.

We plan to shoot most of the significant landmarks in the city. We'll shoot other stuff in between as well.

We're staying at the Le Meridien in San Francisco. Getting there around 3pm on Friday. Departing about noon on Sunday.

TSA rules on Photographic Equipment & Film

Photographic Equipment

You may carry one (1) bag of photographic equipment in addition to one (1) carry-on and one (1) personal item through the screening checkpoint. The additional bag must conform to your air carrier's carry-on restrictions for size and weight. Please confirm your air carrier's restrictions prior to arriving at the airport.

Air carriers may or may not allow the additional carry-on item on their aircraft. Please check with your air carrier prior to arriving at the airport.

Our screening equipment will not affect digital cameras and electronic image storage cards.

Film

The equipment used to screen checked baggage will damage undeveloped film. Pack your undeveloped film in your carry-on bag. High speed and specialty film should be hand inspected at the security checkpoint. To facilitate hand-inspection, remove your undeveloped film from the canister and pack in a clear plastic bag.

Dennis, how has the fog been of late? Any radiation fog coming from the valleys and into the bay? Or, because of the warmer temps lately, possibly some nice, advection fog (from ocean to bay)? Hopefully we can get some nice, foggy mornings.

Marcus, we have been having early morning fog in bay, not so much in or from the valleys, the fog has been light too, clearing fast when the sun starts coming out. It also has been breezy at times which aid in the fog clearing early. Temps have been mid 40's early prob around the time you ll shoot in the morning 4-5am soon as the sun starts to show it heats up fast to low 60's by noon. Hope this helps, from my readings. I think these will be favorable conditions.

I seem to be out of sync with all the Mafia trips, I grew up in the Bay Area and need to make a trip up there soon to pick up some stuff at my parents but they are coming down here to L.A. to visit that weekend so it would probably be a little rude for me to go up there lol.

You guys will be there when the 49ers play New Orleans. Even if your not a 49er fan there is nothing like being in a sports bar and watching the home team win so maybe a long lunch break would be in order?

Casey/Mark, if you want, I could carry your gear in my car so you don't have to carry-on in the airplane. I'm actually going to be in Irvine for a meeting so you can meet me there on Thursday if so. It can't be TOO much gear because luggage space in the VERT is not much with the top down, and I'm damn sure the top WILL be down. BTW Albert, bring warm clothes and a hat (perhaps a ZHPmafia beanie)! :biggrin

Having spent three years in San Francisco, and walked almost every part of it, let's just say that I know this city well. My office was at 5th and Mission. I lived near the Presidio. Lots of daily commuting (via bus). On weekends, I explored the city by foot. When I wasn't in the city, I was exploring the areas north, south, and east of San Francisco. Because of how small San Francisco is, I know it better than I do NYC (which is saying a lot).

Because of our truncated time schedule this weekend, you guys will have to rely on my tour-guide skills to get us to where we want to be.
