about a month ago i swapped out my scratched up ash tray cover/dash mounting bracket for a pristine new one. to do this required getting the cigarette lighter out of the old casing and into the new one. somehow in doing this i seem to have disabled the lighter altogether. i don't smoke cigs, but i do use it to charge my phone. which i can't do now.
so, after a few weeks of not caring, i've finally decided to pose the question to you folks: what are the best troubleshooting steps to fix this, preferably without having to blow up the dash/shifter trim pieces again? i have tried rotating the lighter within the circular housing in which it is set, but that hasn't helped. googling found the most common cause of the lighter failure is a blown fuse. but my lighter was working perfectly before i swapped out the dash pieces, so wondering if that could have blown the fuse or if it's a socket/connector issue.
thanks guys.

It's possible you just knocked the connectors loose, which I believe would require disassembly to fix...

Check the fuse first.
You definitely could have blown it if you touched the wrong place with a metal tool that's touching something else or grounded out while changing stuff out.

Correct. Roof of the glove box. Turn the white tabs and pull the whole thing down.
Cigarette lighter is fuse #47. Left bank.
