Z3M shift lever mod

Has anyone done this? I am very interested in doing it myself, but the only thing I wonder is, is it a direct swap with no modifications needed? All I care about is whether or not the shift lever will be centered when I install it (that is, if I need to make a slight bend in the metal in order to center it). I've heard that shifts are amazing with it + the ZHP shift knob.

Not to be snobby, but you don't know a short shift until you drive a M Coupe. The Z3/4 are very short

I once had the Z4 shift kit on my E30. The throws were reduced but wasn't that dramatic.

Compared to the E46, the Z4M is a night and day difference in throw distance.

I wonder how it compares to the ZHP throws. I'm pretty sure the ZHP throws are marginally shorter than regular E46. Good to know.

The non-M E46 are long just like the standard M3... The ZHP throw felt shorter due to a shift knob size. The M-Performance Shift knob is even shorter!! I've even played with my friend's E90 M3 before and after. Before was throwing all over the place but with extreme precision. The M-Performance knob on his M3 is much better. Make sure you get the right shift lever though. Some are shorter and longer in there the ball pivots to where it's connected to the transmission due to 5 and 6 speed configurations.

I have a Autosolutions lever on my M-Performance Knob to make it super short but then when you compare it to a 350Z...now that Nissan is short! My friend with a Nissan GTR wonders why mine is still so long. LOL.

The knob is all the way on yes. It's a lot higher though. I'll take a pic when I go back out to my car in a little while to go home

I'm still not convinced that zips and non-zhps have the same shift lever. ZHP knobs on other non-ms sit lower than stock, but seemingly not as low as the ZHPs overall setup. The M3 lever with the ZHP knob is without question higher if you wan't to take the time to search for examples.

ZHP's don't have the same shift lever as non-ZHP's. The throws are a little bit shorter.

keep in mind that its easy to confuse short throws with a low knob. most folks think the lower the knob is the more race ready they are, but really it's almost the opposite.

you want short crisp throws, sure...but you also want the knob as close as possible to the steering wheel for shorter "travel" times for your hand from one to the other. since it's just a simple lever it's obviously going to be a balance of the two...but just something to keep in mind.

the jaffster knob comes to mind...primary goal is to be a taller knob to get your hand closer to the wheel. random internet pic:
