I finally got a hit on the saved search on Ebay for a TCU module with bluetooth after I had a blow with that wet module that didn't work. It has been almost 6months and I finally got a hit! I won it on ebay and now I'm waiting for it to arrive. If it works, I haven't decided if I wanted to keep the whole setup yet. I may sell it.

Saturday,
I'm bringing the ZHP into Performance Technic to install my Stoptechs, wheels balanced, replace seized camber bolt, and alignment. Hopefully the car will be all good to go! I am a bit worried about the clearance on the wheels with the template I drew out.

I may need a 3mm Spacer. For now I can use the 12.5mm I have. I'll have to ping the wheel spacer thread to try out the 3mm before I commit to them! :)

Matt, Stephen, Dillon and Ernesto do awesome work! Thanks to Performance Technic for the wonderful quick install.
Matt installed the BBK. There was some bad news regarding the rear camber bolt. It is literally stuck in there and the only way out is to replace the ball joint and the camber arms. At least Matt was able to free the bolt and let it adjust. I plan on getting some camber arms by SBC and get that done next time.
The 12.5mm Spacer is in the front for now. I haven't decided what to do with the spacer issue just yet. The rear is sunken way too in.
Alignment settings for now:
Front suspension:
Camber : -2.7
Toe: 1/16"
Rear Suspension:
Camber: -1.7
Toe: 1/16"
For now...time to bed the BBK in!

Matt and Stephen @ P-Tech were complimenting the car. They enjoyed the mods when they test drove it and like the readiness of the 3.62 final drive and the handling and comfort from my swift spring/groundcontrol setup. Now with the new brakes, this car is going to be more consistent at the track! Now to get rid of the funky front wheels sticking out at the front and the rears sunk in.

7.5mm TMS spacers + Hub Extenders

I chose black calipers because it was subtle and easier to clean. The car has a lot of mods that are behind the scenes so it definitely looks the part with the rest of the car.
I'm planning to do a few changes in the coming weeks.

find a upholstery shop to close the hole for now.

Back to the stock box?
Yup. I can't figure out what is going with the AFE intake. Lean codes usually means there is a leak after the MAF. I already replaced my upper and lower boots and F connector. With a stock intake, I do not get these error codes so I am a little lost on what the problem is. I thought it might have been the MAF sensor O-ring that is removed from the stock intake but that is pre-MAF not post MAF.
$300 can go to my driver side bolster.

Not sure what intake you had but oiled intakes can foul the MAF readings, especially if your sensor has seen a lot of mileage.

Dang JR, had I see it sooner I would've bought it too!
Anyways,
I order some parts from thebmwpartstore:
Trunklid handle gasket (license plate lights is seeing water corrosion..)
MAF intake O-ring
Brake clips for rear end
Stock Intake rubber thing that goes underneath the stock box
Misc Bolts.
For my wheel fitment,
I still need to order spacers. Joop is sending me his 10mm spacers to try out and make sure I do not rub in the rear with 10mm. I am essentially making my 8.5 +40 into 8.5 +30. Once I get those 10mm I will take it out for a spin and make sure it is okay. :D
When I inspecting my brakes,
I noticed my brake ducts are toast. The duct hose has ripped apart from the cooling plate at the rotor. This is partly my fault in cutting too short of a duct hose for full lock. I will have to order some new duct hoses as well.
For my driver side bolster,
I've called around to repair the alcantara, and I found a place that said it can do the side bolster only for $250. I am not sure how well it will match the existing grey as well. Other option is to buy a new cover and have my driver side newer than the passenger. Or the other option is buy a new recaro SPA in the driver side and put the existing SPG in the passenger. Course the last option is the most expensive... and it doesn't solve that the driver seat is getting worn out.

My parts from BMWpartstore come in last night.
Replaced my trunk handle weather gasket
Replaced intake mounting 10mm bolts x 2
Replaced rubber thing under stock intake
I also tested the TCU I just bought. It works well with my Moto X and my dad said I sounded loud n clear. I don't have any real need to keep this TCU as I tend to not talk on the phone in the car anyways (Too busy enjoying the car.) It will go to a better home soon (Charlie's ZHP).
I'm waiting on Joop's 10mm spacer so I can test out how much clearance during hard cornering in the rear. Hopefully its good enough and I will order a set for myself.
I think the mods is going to slow down for a bit now. The car is at a point where it's fanstastic to drive and fun at the track. I think maintenance will start to hinder up it's rear end soon as I am approaching 5 years owning this car and it's had some nice long hard miles.
A few items need replacing:
Oil Level Sensor (Frequency count is 1-2 every few 1000 miles) Low priority as the yellow light doesn't illuminate yet.
Brake Duct Hoses (Torn on the drive side and will need a one) High Priority as it will be a problem if it fully tears and rubs on the wheels.
Tires on the Style 135 Rims. (Tires been on for almost 4 years now and it's finally reached the wear bar) Low Priority as I have ARC8s..and I don't daily drive.
Oil Pan gasket (I think it is the oil pan gasket leaking..) Medium Priority. I need to confirm that the oil pan gasket is the true source of the minor leak.
Fuel Filter (Approaching 50k) Low Priority. Not 100% necessary at this point but I do have the filter waiting on my workbench.
Vanos Repair Medium Priority. I would like to do it and hear the ZHP rattle disappear.
Fluids to replace:
Coolant Flush
Oil Change
Brake Fluid Flush
Transmission Flush
It's a healthy list and I got a few parts to buy too.. :X
alexandre
04-30-2014, 04:22 PM
Explore the possibility that it's your oil filter housing gasket leaking before tackling the oil pan. OFHG can make one heck of a mess downwards of it and at your mileage I wouldn't doubt that it's toast.

I received Joop's 10mm Spacer from the Spacer swap thread. During my installation I found I had a low tire again. I inspected the tire and found a nail in the dead middle of the tread. I just did some relatively harder cornering today and I noticed the rears do rub on hard corners. This probably means I will run during track days.. HMMMM. 12.5mm in the rear will not be a good idea at all.

Rear:

Minor update:
Today I replaced my fuel filter, repaired my brake duct hoses with gaff tape and did an oil change.
Since I was fixing my hoses, I decided to try the rims without the spacers. As I expected the clearance from the rim to the caliper was barely 2 business cards thick. This is definitely not drivable in race conditions!
14266
Things will be quiet on the modification side for awhile. Hopefully I can order some PFC06 brake pads all around ($600+ ouch) soon for July 26th track day. I will probably order a 3mm spacer to replace the 12.5mm spacer in the front.

Giya,
The stoptechs came with stoptech performance pads. From my initial bedding, it doesn't look like it takes much to get them hot and smoking. They are good street pads and have great low temperature bite.
StopTech Street Performance Pads are intended for high performance street driving as well as light duty track use.
http://i.imgur.com/8Fyk4X6l.png
I do have a few options on what to do with my brake situation.
I have heard great things about PFC endurance pads, 06 and 08. They did not offer a 135i caliper pad so I never got to try them out. This would be the ideal option but the cost for 4 corners is $600+.
Currently I have XP8 brake pads for the rear M3. These pads have plenty of life left. I think my old setup with XP10 Front, XP8 rear had too much front brake bias. I would like to return to the same compound on all four corners to maintain similar to stock brake bias. I think the XP8 may not be up to the task for the front as the carbotech website recommends XP10 and up for heavier cars.
I emailed Carbotech for their suggestion if XP8 all around is a sound solution or not. I am also concern about brake pad swapping with the same rotors. I do not have a spare set of front rotors to swap as the Aero Rotor rings are not cheap. I am not sure if the carbotechs will be compatible with the stoptech street pads.
So much information to take in...too many options.. :facepalm
I would go with XP8 all around as it is the most cost efficient route but it might not stop the car as good as those XP10s I had before. Decisions Decisions. Money is tight at the moment for car parts so this is a tough decision. Might have to eat ramen for a few weeks ;)

Hmm yea, this was also my issue when I was racing in the AFM. The faster I wanted to go, the more expensive everything was getting. Tries didn't last nearly as long, regular track day brake pads didn't cut it anymore, pump gas got replaced with MR12... it was a downward spiral.. for my finances :)
I'm sure you'll make the right call in the end--after you get more information.
Is your next track day going to be on the new, West, loop? I hear it officially opened today.

I talked to a Carbotech Rep about my specific brake setup and he recommends I go with the XP12s in the front and when the XP8s in the rear wear out, to purchase XP10s for the rear. He mentioned the rear M3 rotors shifted the brake bias to the rear a bit and surprisingly he also mentioned the ST40 shifted the brake bias to the rear as well. I definitely looking into where he got this insider information about the stoptechs moving the brake bias to the rear because I would've thought it move it forward a bit. The friction coefficient of the XP12, XP10 and XP8 are very similar so the different compounds would not have a major impact adjusting the bias too much. Well at least according to the CT rep.
Anyways, I signed up for Buttonwillow July 26th. Now to order some XP12 brake pads for the ST40s and on we go! I may just order a 3mm spacer and call it a day for the fronts.
I won't be attending Thunderhill for awhile. I just hope the next time around its the full 5-mile course!

I'll give you that. If it had about 2-3mm more, it would be perfect!

There is not too much to update here. Currently I am awaiting Joop to send me his 3mm spacers. I want to be 100% sure that the 3mm spacers will not cause any hubcentric lip problems in the front. Nobody likes vibrations in the wheel!!!
My Carbotech XP12 brake pads for the front are on the way. The current setup for the brakes will be XP12 front, XP8 rears. Once the XP8 run out, I will switch to a stronger compound, XP10 or XP12 depending on how the car feels on the track.
I finally drove the car for the first time since 6/6. It feels great to take it out and work that engine a bit! The gearing for the 3.62 is a bit short for city streets but it's perfect for the track days and I love every minute driving this car. The final drive will work perfectly with the S54 in a couple years.. :eeps
Happy 4th Everyone!

Update
Joop has a nasty injury and wasn't able to get his 3mm spacers shipped out to me in time for BW yesterday.
On Wednesday I drove to Apex Race Parts (about 1.5hrs away from my place) to purchase 5mm spacers. I didn't want to track the car with 12.5mm spacers in the front and nothing in the rear. The car had an awkward stance in terms of being race ready.
My gf (e90 335i) and my ZHP made the trek out to Buttonwillow on Friday afternoon. Naturally, something always goes wrong. She reported her car felt floaty in the steering on certain bumps and corners. There was also a clunk in the suspension that I thought sounded like endlinks. I raised only the right side and double checked the side and found no problems. On the way to Buttonwillow on the 5, she reported the same issue and we kept the car at 70mph all the way down. Once we got to the Motel 6, we borrowed her friend's jack and stands to fully lift the front end. Turns out the right endlink was not 100% tighten. It was probably 85% and had a little play in it. I couldn't detect it when I checked it because the sway bar had load from the other side. Once that was rechecked, the clunk was gone and the car felt okay for saturday's HPDE.
6am. It was already 75F. It was going to be a scorcher. Buttonwillow Raceway was repaved about a week ago and I was told that the asphalt was not fully cured yet since they have been seeing 100+ degree days. The crew have been laying some sort of white dust overnight to cool the track down. The downside of this was the whitedust is very slippery. Over the course of the day this white dust would disappear on the racing line but the off-lines were still slippery as hell.

The heat was killer. I'm glad we got a garage. It was close to 106F mid-afternoon and it was not pretty.
The car did wonderfully but mid afternoon session I almost overheated! The coolant briskly touched the bottom of the redzone (231F). The Cluster test was set to 7.0 and showing 111C! I threw the heater on and it dropped back down to 104-106C during the session. After that, I was done.
Overally it was too slippery and I had no confidence in the traction. When I finally got better with the new brakes and compound, the coolant was too hot and my tires started to get too greasy too fast. 2:11 is not bad but I was hoping to beat my PB 2:08.
I met John (LivesNearCostco) and it was a pleasure to talk ZHP and see his ZHP in action as well. If he wants to tell his story on here, he can. Hope to see your car next time in much much cooler temps!
I will look into my videos and see if I can overlay them with Harry's Laptimer like last time.
Thanks for reading :)
Don't know if anyone remembers American Touge, but the Top Setup garage had their CRX there too. Also there was a few new M3/M4s out there but I didn't take any pics cause it was so hot.

Not so much but Factory standards show 125C is true redline. Either way, I started using the heater on max during my last session and the temps went down to 104C. I think a flush is in order.

You know, I haven't thought about that. The cooling system was redone (the works) 4 years ago. When the water pump does grenade and need to be replace, I'll probably upgrade to a stewart for the better flow capabilities. Until then, I should stick to summer track days near SF where temps are max at 90F lol. At $170 for the part, thats not too bad. I might have to do this with upgraded silicon radiator hoses.

Probably. At track speeds, I don't think the fan would make a difference. Also in 106F ambient air temps, I'm sure its not an ideal condition to be constantly pushing a car for 20minutes. I wasn't the only one with overheating problems.

Derek, great to meet you at Buttonwillow, and thanks for saying I'm fast, but we know you're faster!
I'm pretty sure my car wasn't overheating on the track that day but my temp gauge is still buffered and I wasn't running the hidden OBC function #7 to watch the real coolant temp. I do have a Stewart water pump, radiator replaced in 2010, and coolant half flushed in early 2014 (last full flush 2011).

Joop was kind enough to send me out his 3mm spacers for fitment testing. The 3mm spacers gives about a 1-2mm lip for the wheel to center on the hub. I'm not 100% this is enough lip for the ARC8 to sit properly. The 5mm does not allow enough lip for the ARC8 to center itself on the hub.
It looks like I will definitely need to buy 3mm spacers! Thanks Joop for the spacers to test!!
Edit:
I realized I still have hub extenders from Todd on E46F.
https://skitch-img.s3.amazonaws.com/20120106-denddyg971xb3jw88jca1ctu72.png
I may just put these on and be done with it. I removed them cause I constantly swapped out my ZHP rims and the hub extenders affected the 12.5mm spacers I used.
Decisions decisions. Hub extenders were not made to be constantly removed so I'm not sure if I want to go this route.

Today I installed the 3mm spacers I purchased from Joop. I briefly had a conversation with JR about sway bars and spacers today.
I opt to install my existing 5mm spacers in the rear to test if there was any vibration issues.
http://i.imgur.com/d6gN69Rl.jpg
Excuse the surface rust. ;)
It seems the rear hub has a larger lip than the front which allowed my ARC8 to sit on the center of the hub without any issues.
BTW,
The rear 18x8.5 135 rims BARELY fit my stoptechs with a 3mm spacer. This ensures for sure that they will fit over the 135i calipers without any issues. I know I posted it somewhere on the forums this as well.

Minor Update to the ZHP:
I replaced my coolant today with Redline WaterWetter and Distilled Water. I also trimmed my belly pan piece to delete the sway bar sections. The picture below shows where sections I deleted. The reason I deleted them was because the current brake duct hose setup altered the belly pan and it made it a little more difficult to remove.
http://c1552172.r72.cf0.rackcdn.com/374042_x800.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y158/Czar654321/BMW%20M3/bwduct2.jpg
This picture shows how the hole was created for the brake ducts hose. Unfortunately the belly pan is made out of some sort of plastic material that easily cracks and the brackets broke off their fasteners. Since the sway bar sections were minimal in protection, I opt to just delete them all together.
Now I can just remove my bellypan without removing my ducts! Hoorah!
On a lighter note,
I'm waiting on delivery of Matt's Hotchkis front sway bar and then I will pack my UUC F+R sway bar set to deliver to JR.

Motion Motorsports makes these side mounts:

They have slots on a circle that allows for a very wide range of adjustment.

You can't access the oil drain plug on the M54 with the M3 cross member. I looked into it a while ago because of the jack point it has. And if you have to remove the member, the screws are "one-time use." But I doubt that really matters.

New item (to me) install day!
Hotchkis 30mm Front Sway Bar.

http://i.imgur.com/PwHr6C0l.jpg
Install
It's pretty simple to install. Jack up car, remove front wheels, undo endlinks, undo d brackets, reverse. Couldn't be any easier. It is hard to tell in the pictures but the Hotchkis 30mm bar looks larger than the UUC 27mm bar. The Poly bushings are smaller on the Hotchkis and there was an extra bracket to install as well. I set the bar to the medium setting to test drive on one of the local mountain roads. Kings Mountain Road.
http://i.imgur.com/vUPmOUb.png
Initial Impressions
My car is not setup for the street at all.. :facepalm My track pads are still on the car and they couldn't warm up properly on the mountain road as it is a very tight "course" with a few 10mph hairpins. The car felt like it was understeering at the hairpins and it was hard to determine if there was any improvement from the 27mm bar on full stuff. At this point it seems on the street it was hard to determine the cause of the understeer. I will have to drive it more and see how it performs on the track but as of now, it definitely feels stiffer in the front. When I get a chance, I'll fiddle with the settings and try out the softest setting .

I also have a high speed steering wheel shake It may be time to replace those silly FCABs. It's been 30k with many track days inbetween.
Time to replace them with these bad boys: Z4M FCAB.
I hope to get a little more caster and still have good clearance on the front side of the fender.

Okay, so I am at 6. My alignment is more aggressive than stock, but also conservative as my car sees street more than auto-cross. I did bump the front negative camber to around -1.4 or -1.5. Rear is -2.0.
I have camber set at 2.7 front and 2.0 rear. I need to head to my parents place to check my alignment records.

Yeah E36's have way more caster which is what I was looking for. Oh well, I was also going for looks along with function. So this caster will do for now. Maybe If I get smaller spacers I can increase it to 7 degrees

lulz. Same boat here. I love my car and the way it is. But im tempted to get Eibach pro kit springs to replace my HR race springs. Car is flat and planted with the 26mm sway, but its too low.. My bilstein sports seem to prefer a taller ride height. Also feels a tad bouncy..
Thoughts on a ground control coilover conversion sleeve? I wouldn't slam the car. Probably 450/550 spring rates. Nothing crazy, I occasionally auto-x, maybe some track time next year. Problem is.. I hear people say bilstein sports could use a revalve for higher spring rates which worries me. I think 450/550 should be conservative enough? Or get 400/500? I should just call GC lol. They will probably tell me to get Koni shocks tho :/

Koni yellows off the shelf valving can take about 600lb/in if I recall. The GC Koni yellows are off the shelf valving with external top rebound adjustment. I am running 448/560 swift springs and they actually feel better than my old 375/415 eibach spring rates. I would highly recommend the swift springs or hyperco if you want to upgrade. :)

The race springs are definitely stiffer but dampening can dramatically help with bounce.

If you have no sway bars, it will make a huge difference! I went from a 27mm UUC to a 30mm Hotchkis so the difference was as apparent. From stock, its an amazing chance and I think you should go for it. If not, you can go H&R sway set or Turner Sway Set.

I dropped off the car around 10am and had the car back around 4-5pm. Not bad for Weatherford BMW! Technician went googoogaga over my stoptech brakes and the recaro seat.

My steering wheel has been vibrating on the freeway and I noticed a steering judder while low speed braking the last time I took tge car out for a spin. I decided to buy Z4M thrust rods because of the increased caster would be beneficial to the BMW.
I tackled the thrust rod bushings install this afternoon. Ehat is interesting is that the thrust rod bushings on my car weren't OE but they weren't Meyle either. I dont know what brand they were but they were full rubber and lasted me 3 years of hard track driving.
On an install note, I must say those z4m bushings are a BITCH to line up. The bushings added so much caster the bushings wouldn't let me line up the two bracket holes. It took a little more fiddling with a crowbar to line them up but it went smoothly.
I went on a small test drive and immediate felt the heavier steering wheel and the judder is no longer present in low speed braking. I hope this solves my vibration problem at freeway speeds too.
Cheers. :)

Is an alignment needed after the install of those z4m bushings?
Since the increase of caster changed the static geometry of the control arm, I would highly recommend an alignment just to confirm toe is within the specs. I have an alignment schedule for next friday. The last time I got an alignment was 4/19/14 and there hasn't been any suspension changes except the thrust rod bushings. Since I am tracking the car, I would like to adjust my alignment settings either way to be sure.
I am curious if the toe actually changed.

It should. It changes the control arm angle and the tie rods do change their position slightly. I would imagine it is different.

I didn't really take any pictures of my car but I did get an alignment just to see what the caster and toe changes were after the Z4M bushings.
Caster increased by about 1 degree and Toe was pretty high up there for the front. Everything seems to be okay and the car drove fine before and after the alignment. Kudos to Performance Technic and I'll see the whole crew on Tuesday at Thunderhill! :)

Right? Most of the guys have Ms that go to Ptech which I thought was felt a little strange but it is a performance shop.
How was the track day?
It was a great day for Thunderhill. Temperatures were around 70s and it was a nice cool day with no clouds in sight. Performance Technic hosted a wonderful event with great rules. Beginners had "X" on the back of their cars and we were only allowed to pass them on specific passing zones with a point-by. I thought the rules were great and most of the day was pretty good.
The schedule was as follows:
9am: Advanced session
9:30am: Beginner session
10am-1pm: Open to all Session
1-2pm: Lunch
2pm to Close: Open to All Session
http://i.imgur.com/EKvUMPTl.jpg
Impressions of the Car:
-Z4M Bushings felt great. The car felt more composed on the straights and braking felt alot better.
-H&R Front Sway Bar set to medium setting felt wonderful. There is a slight understeer on tighter corners but the medium to high speed corners stability was amazing. I am getting more comfortable with my stoptech brakes and starting to brake a lot later and improving my times. I lost a lot of confidence in driving the car at the track due to lack of track days to keep me in shape.
The last time I tracked at Thunderhill in the Cyclone configuration was 2:15. I changed alot of stuff in the past two years so I'm not so sure it's a fair comparison.
List of major things changed since then last cyclone pass:
Stoptech Brakes
M3 LSD
Bimmerworld Brake Ducts
ARC8 Rims/Star Specs
Clutch/Z3M shifter lever
TSE3 Exhaust
H&R Sway bar
New Swift Rear Springs
Yesterday's best time was 2:11 with PLENTY of room to run faster. With my improving confidence with the stoptechs I started to run into a problem with a bucket seat with no harness. The stock seatbelts could not hold me in the seat enough during heavy braking and I was wasting energy with my back muscles holding myself in during braking. In a situation where it is a long session like yesterday, my back did not want any of it. I know I can brake a lot later and faster if I didn't have to waste so much energy holding myself in the seat during braking. I think I will need to look into a harness, again. I shouldn't have sold my quickfit pro harness and kept it but I will look for another one.

There was one incident after Turn 12 where one of the E36 track cars dropped 2 wheels on the outside. He tried to counter and it forced him to the opposite side where there was a hill. The car hit the ditch and rolled over a few times and ended back rolling back upright down the hill. The driver is okay with 4 broken ribs but the car did it's job and kept him safe. I'm glad the driver is okay without much issue.

On a more sour note,
The SES light went on when I was driving home from the track. I ran through the test plan and confirm my O2 sensors were operational and within the 0-1.1V spec under 5000rpm. The suggestion from the test plan is that there is a leak coming from the mix-prep stage.
http://i.imgur.com/CyPm9G1l.png
I will have to do further diagnostics. I think I need smoke machine to figure it out.
I also have a slight vibration in the wheel. From the looks of it, my control arms are original, and my tie rods have not been replaced under my ownership so I will look into those areas to confirm where the problem is coming from.

Wow, great track day story. Are you running fixed back seat without harnesses, or just saying you need harness now for the stock seat? Sorry to hear an E36 rolled.
My 3rd track day ever was at Thunderhill (without Cyclone) back in November 2010. It was great but someone did roll a Lexus between Turns 6 and 7. Went off to right, came back on too fast, shot across to left side then rolled. Driver and passenger walked away but I assume the car was totaled.

I am running a Recaro SPG with stock belts at the moment. I'm getting better confidence with the stoptechs and finding out it can brake ALOT later and harder than my old setup. Unfortunately this also means I'm getting a whole lot more braking force and my stock belt doesn't seem to be holding me in well.
I'm a bit torn on my situation what to do. The right step is to put a cage and harness. A part of me doesn't want to do this because it means the rear seats are now useless. I had quickfit pro before and it maybe the solution to my issues if I can see if the buckles that are attached to the belts can fit through the harness guides.
That sure was a shit ton of shifting with that M3 diff... but at least you were in the powerband almost the entire time. :thumbsup
Oh I know. Shifting into 5th at 110mph isn't the best feeling in the world. There were a few misalign throws during my session but I didn't put it in gear so it just revved to neutral. But the powerband is quite nice for the track except between turn 2 and 3 I have to hit the rev limit on the little straight of 3rd.

Things like this are the reasons I don't really want a diff much shorter than what I have now. On the tracks I run, my gearing is absolutely perfect, and don't want to ruin it. All that extra kills time as well...

It's all relative depending on which track you are on. I think turn 2-3 on thunderhill is barely a fault for me. If I kept it in 4th in turn 2 I might be faster. Laguna Seca is a tighter course and I can see the benefits of the shorter gearing there. :)
Besides, I could totally fix it with an S54 and rev out to 7800 :P
On a side note, I'm still torn on which direction I want to go with the recaro.

You do have a point.
The ZHP has been deemed for a more track-focused setup and I think a cage would be a good idea. I am reluctant to add a cage because that is a big step in that direction and it basically means there is no turning back at that point. Right now the car is still very streetable.
I think for now I will focus on maintenance.
-Figure out the P0171/74 code culprit.
-Double check where the slight vibration from steering is coming from.
My tie rods and control arms are original and at 132k, I'm sure it needs to be replace soon.
I still have a few parts to replace like the motion motorsports side mounts as well.

With the extra weight, I can't justify it even if it is AC/heated.

An S54 makes the focus on the wallet.........
...Well a blur on your first WOT. And when you start to think about it again, you're by "accident" at WOT again and your problem blurs again.
It's a horrible issue to have.

Oh I know. Lol it's a vicious cycle. For now, euro clears will have to do. LOL

The lights have been sitting around for awhile now so I figure I give it a test run for now. I'll keep them on for awhile and make a decision if I want to keep them or not. The car definitely looks less playful without the Amber. I'm not so sure I like it. At least they're actually ECE pieces :)

Yes, less playful for sure. Clears have a very serious look to them.

Currently I have amber colored bulbs in there for that YOLK effect. I did talk to you about the CREE CANBUS amber LED bulbs but I am holding off until I make a decision about the taillights. I know you favor amber more than the clears and as do I. How much more..I don't know.

Just remember; the CREE bulbs will make your radio static when they are on, so the radio will cut in and out as it blinks. The severity of it seems to vary; sometimes just a little static, other times it completely makes the radio static out. My friend who put them in his E36 had the same problem.
Personally I don't care; it's worth the light output. I would like to eliminate it somehow though, if at all possible...

I would've suspected that CREE would have a low RF emission but I guess that isn't the case. The electronic transformer on board must be switching at very high frequencies and not properly filtered. Well, good thing you mentioned this as I may have bought them. I wonder if we add ferrite cores onto the wiring for the corner lamps and turn signals will help reduce the radio interference.

I don't know if all of the bulbs of this type do this or not. I just know that the particular ones I have do.
It seems that Your Mileage May Vary when it comes to aftermarket bulbs like this. I don't know if perhaps there's a higher quality bulb available somewhere, though I figured for the price these have to be damned good. They were expensive; a pair was $50! The quality on them seems quite excellent from a build perspective. :dunno

How would this be done?
If it involves splicing into wiring, I won't be doing this...

Look up Ferrite cores for RF. They are little round half cylinders you put over the wire and snap to make a full cylinder

Could one just be added over the whole harness bundle with no ill effects?

I would put it on the 12V line near the turn signal. I'm not sure how to do it on the tail-light though.

I think the only reason I like the clears at the moment is because they are BMW ECE. I like clears and ambers but I think clears work much better if I had silver wheels.

I think it looks great! I would just use regular bulbs, no sense messing with LEDs if it induces a problem with your radio...that would drive me bonkers!!

The Euro Clears are on my car at the moment and I have regular amber bulbs in there at the moment. I'll keep them on for a little bit before I decide if I want to keep them or get rid of them.

Put them back on.
My anthracite wheels clash too much with the euro clears. The euro lenses are in amazing condition and the chrome in the clear section overpowers the "dark" look the car is enjoying. If I had silver ARC8s....the euro clears would be perfect.

Not sure I will sell them just yet.
Today I installed a 4.0 LCM and modified the brake force threshold settings that Terra mentioned in the LCM coding thread.
I also added FL_DRL_MIT_RL into my LCM to enable the rear parking lights as DRL. The best part about this is that the license plate lights aren't on. :)

Terra, BP and a few others of us were talking about BFD stage 3. When we activate it, it activates very late and is practically when ABS is engaged. We felt this is very late and it should be earlier but not too early. Terra saw that the AKMB shows the Z4M has a 0111F value for the threshold instead of 0FFF. He tested it and showed that it made the threshold activate slightly earlier but not too early.
I modified the DATEN files to reflect his discovery and coded it to the cluster.

Thanks Tony,
I may get rid of it, if Terra is updating my 3.6 :)
