View Full Version : Water in front passenger side

After a big rain storm the carpet is damp. Front passenger right next to the speaker in door. No window was open sun roof closed. Just that little section is damp. How do i solve this

Could be the door vapor barrier, could be a clogged A-pillar sunroof drain, or a disconnected A-pillar sunroof drain hose.

I'd start with the vapor barrier.

Like Kayger said, clogged sun roof drains are very common for that, ESP if you park under trees a lot.

If you haven't been into the door, I may start with drains first. KG hit the nail on the head though with causes.

It is most like ly a bad door vapor barrier seal. The water runs in from the door, from out side as it enters the door, runs past the barrier seal which is behind the door panel, then over the door sill and down to the carpet.

I had a thread a few months back that showed this issue and what to look for if you have it. With the door open run a hose onto the out side of the doors glass to act as rain. Then see if it starts to run from the bottom of the door panel under neath. It may take a minute so give it 5 to make sure.

How do you unclog sunroof drains?

For the drains, find the exit point from the unibody. On my X3 they have rubber covers that with an "X" shaped slot to allow water to drain out but this is what also causes the clog if crud is coming down from above. I use a really small screw driver to pull out the crud plugs. Just be sure not to tear apart the drain covers in the process. On the E46 you'll have to jack up in order to get under there. I will admit to not having done this on the e46 - so I am assuming that the approach on the X3 is similar. I have pictures on the my X3 post (Bimmerfest) if you want to see what I'm talkign about.
