In order to keep track of everything in one place and for those who haven't been around too long, here we go...
Got the car a few years ago, it stayed stock for a long time but recently the mod bug has hit again after a few years of hibernation. Car is a daily driver so I'm not gonna go too crazy with performance. Yeah, I got the steptronic but only because this is not going to be a weekend/track rat car. I have huge plans for a ///M3 6MT (S62 swap!!!) but that will come later. This car is just to get me around but still be enjoyable to drive so I'm trying not to spend too much on it.

Question, how do you like the Grill Stripes?
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c288/jhermes/4159054f.jpg
They are vinyl, right? I'm just trying to see if I want to get some. I don't know how the fitment looks in that pic though, not trying to be a douche or anything.

thanks guys, just trying not to spend too much on this car.
Old schools static cling does not exist, only the new style and those are $1 each. They sell it as a sticker on the ''Sticker Set (http://myaccount.bmwcca.org/PortalTools/Shopper/ProductDetail.cfm?ProdCompanyPassed=01&ProdCdPassed=01-STICKER_SET_WH&quantityPassed=1)" in the store on the CCA site for $4 that has a bunch of stickers. I'm gonna order it because it has just the US outline version of the logo (I think the big one is 6" wide!) which is the logo I really want.
http://myaccount.bmwcca.org/PortalTools/Shopper/Images/27889ac359f09ec3b86b18e658d260a8.jpg
(I don't know if that picture or link will work if you are not logged into CCA's site)
Kyle, they strips are just electric tape I cut to size with a razor blade. The effort wasn't perfect and I need to do it again, I just wanted to see how it would turn out. Also, I think the yellow tape is like 8 years old so it started coming up almost right away (you can see at the bottom of my grill). I was gonna order the vinyl ones but I have electric tape and it's basically the same stuff, why should I pay $20 for it?

That sticker set clear stickers? Or are they white background? I'm really picky with my stickers on the car. I haven't received my BMW CCA stuff yet (signed up a couple weeks ago). Membership just kicked off the 1st, so maybe I'll get some.
Completely agree on the tape part. Still deciding if I want to get some for a completely OEM car w/chrome grills :/
Hermes

I think they have a white background but I don't know for sure. I would just call the office on Monday. Also, it looks like they have two colors of blue so figure out what color your roundel is so they match (mine is the lighter blue). I'm not too worried about the white background as I will be using the the USA part so I can just cut the white out with an exacto knife if I wanted, but I'll probably just leave it since there is white in my roundel.
Also, the set has a few different size stickers so you can always just use the small one (I think the USA on that is 1.5" wide). You won't have much white with that.

12-03-2011, 07:15 PM
I believe that the sticker set (pictured) has white background. That is the last one that I purchased from the CCA a few years ago, and they do have the white background. Ironically, looks like the set on the left in the photo was the interior static cling, but the one on top is the only one available, or used to be.

JP,
I think if you got the hid kit for your fogs (9006 bulbs in 3000k) that will provide even more lighting in the color you want.
Here is something you can check out :thumbsup

Yeah, I've been thinking about it but at the same time I love the look at the moment. The pics don't do it justice. The bulbs are very powerful in person. I tried it one night without the low beams (put the lights on the first switch to the right) and turned on my fogs... ridiculous amount of light. IIRC the lumen output is around 1400, more than enough for pointing down at the ground.
If I was to go HID fogs I would install projectors, either the ///M style housing or retrofit some Bosch mini-projectors in the repro backup set I have.
Projector housing (not sure if I like the look)

Charlie (or anybody), can you do me a favor and measure the inner diameter of the fog housing? Specifically the top-bottom as I remember that being the narrow part. This way I can start doing some research as to what projectors will fit in the stock housing. Thanks bud

JP,
Sorry I didn't get back to you right away. Been working on my college assignments last night. I took a quick measurement of the fogs and came up with 3" by 4".
This is a rough measurement as I was doing this just before I left for work...overslept :)
John, can you check me on this?
Hermes
01-24-2012, 06:56 AM
No worries, I'm in no hurry. I would do it myself but I have no fogs with me to measure
John, FYI to take off the fog it's one 8mm screw. Then you take a 10mm socket (or Philips screwdriver) and loosen the thing that holds the reflector in place. Looks like the one on the right in the following pic. You don't have to remove completely like I did in the pic to measure, it just spins off to the side. Just make sure to take your bulb out first

Here's what I got. Let me know if you need anything else. (Don't worry about the angle of the tape measure making the #'s look funny, just use what's listed in the text.
Top to bottom, 3.5"
http://i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc481/johnrando/SouthBayCities-20120124-00184.jpg
Side to side in total 5"
http://i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc481/johnrando/SouthBayCities-20120124-00185.jpg
The inner space is about 4" in the front top to bottom (I can get more accurate on that if you need it), and in the back, 3" top to bottom.

Just to be clear, JUST the front of the foglight itself is 3" x 4" (or 3.75 depending on where you stop).
Hermes
01-24-2012, 04:40 PM
Yeah, front and exterior measurements aren't really important in this case, it's more the inner measurements (specifically from rear) as I need to find a projector that I can get to fit inside the stock housing. See the pic I posted a few posts ago to see what I'm thinking. I'll start by looking for 3" diameter projectors (looking for best cutoff, not just one that fits) and if I need more detailed numbers I'll let you know. Thanks again John

(the stock one is all black. I actually have one like this sitting in my living room)
The little touches make a difference. Would look good imo.

If enough people are interested, we could contact a few of the companies to see if they would do a group buy. I bet we could pick up some more $$ from some of the individuals on the forums that shall not be named.

I'm actually just giving JP shit, since he's in charge of handling these for us. I don't even know where the thread is now.

yeah... there was an issue with the boss shutting it down when we tried to figure out what was going on with it last time the idea was revived. I'll be doing it for myself on my own time so it will take me a while before I have the template. From there we can have that one copied. We can see what progresses from there if he gives the ok
edit: you can see from the other thread that this guy usually works on muscle cars so it doesn't surprise me that you've seen it on the Vette forums. Are your logos decals or paint? Honestly, it kinda looks stitched...

Looks like paint. It has a burned portion that needs fixing. (in the plain black area) Picked it up for free from a guy I was buying other parts from.

JP,
How did you get your DRLs yellow? I have yellow bulbs, but I want to make them really stick out like yours.

It was about time for a new bumper. Twelve years sounds about right for the lifespan of a stock bumper
