I'm gonna say...that looks perfect Ryan.
Leather?

Thanks everyone. I'd do CF fabric (because I love it!), but nothing on my interior is CF so it doesn't make sense. The only thing I don't like about making my own boots is I can't do the parallel stitching down the seam (like OE) because of the sewing machine I have.
I'll be making another boot soon, in a "sand" colored alacantara, to match my seats and old boot. I'll figure which I like best (black leather or sand alacantara) and then make a ebrake boot in that fabric.

Nice work! What about hand stitching the outer seam after you sew it together?

I dunno. I'm not sure I have the patience for hand stitching, nor the skills for that matter.

Put her to work! If she knows how to run a basic sewing machine, she can do this.

Sewing is one of her hobbies, so I'm in luck. Now I just need to find the right material.

It's an idea about the trim. It would involve me buying a spare set of trim to play with, though, and there's a very good chance I might not run it, but want to at least experiment with. 95% chance I'll keep my existing silver/black cube trim hybrid combo, but the idea is soooo worth the experimenting. Thanks for sparking the idea!

I made the Sand Alcantara boot today. I figured out how to do the parallel double stitch along the seam. What do you guys think? Which do you like better?

Also took of my ebrake boot to get ready and start working on it. Is it OE to have the fabric held onto the handle w/ a ziptie?

Melikey the sand alcantara much better. It breaks up the center console a bit, and matches your seats. Plus, alcantara is king. :biggrin

Thanks guys. I like the sand alcantara too. I'm going to practice a little more with the double stitch. The one pictured isn't perfect and I'm a perfectionist when it comes to my work.

I'd love to make and sell shift boots. I only have a template for the e46 manual shift boot though.
Maybe Colby Wheel would like to outsource.

The Alcantara is sweet. I like the contrast of the sand against the dark trim.

Thanks everyone for the opinions, compliments and support. I agree, the sand is the right contrast for my interior. I do kinda like the look and feel of the leather more, but I've looked through a couple fabric stores in the area for a sand vinyl or leather with no luck. I'm going to press on using the alcantara and start making an e-brake boot.
I think Coby does shift boots too. I don't think outsourcing is in the works. :)
Yeah, I was just thinking if they got too busy, I already have the skills and equipment they wouldn't have to hire someone in-house and train & ect......

I'm with you on the leather, a little surprised they didn't have that color in leather.

John, I'm going to keep looking, but it is a weird "tan". Very light w/out being gray, which seems hard to find in town. I've only been to the major fabric places in town, there's a few more I'll hitting up. But 'til then, the alcantara looks better than my old boots! :)
