I completely baffled at this. You use the two existing air scoops from the stock box and those lined up perfectly, and the new scoop is sitting down flush on the front brace. But when I closed the hood I heard it smash. Inside of the hood passenger/driver side look symmetrical and nothing looks strange, and the hood seems properly aligned.
I doubt it effects the performance at all but the biggest reason for buying it is cosmetics so this sucks.
BTW Butt dyno doesn't feel any difference, sounds cool though. Subtle but noticeably throatier.
William.

Definitely shouldve let the hood down slowly to check for fitment. Looking at the pictures, there is definitely a crack or stress on the intake. Not much could be done about it now. Most likely wasn't fitted perfectly, just slightly off. :\

Did you take the level tab off of the expansion tank?
If not, I'm thinking that's your problem.

Step 3 of the install instructions in the DIY that David posted up. http://www.zhpmafia.com/forums/showthread.php?801-BMW-Performance-Intake-Install-DIY
Someone who was one of the first to get these (Jim maybe) had a problem with the hood not sitting flush because of this. His didn't crack, though.

Yup, took that off. It would be pretty hard to miss that step as the the whole thing would be a good inch higher and nothing would match up.
It definitely would have been a good idea to lower the hood slowly lol

I was taking a nap and just saw this, that sucks big time! When I initially put mine on it didn't line up right either, but the hood settled after a day. I was careful when I closed the hood that first time as I had read about the alignment issue.
In this case I would epoxy it back together. I would skip the cf wrap and go with a different color wrap since there is that CF insert on the top of the airbox. You might want to do some sort of gloss black vinyl wrap, I think that could look good. You might want to look at the two stick on foam things on the bottom of that snorkel piece and adjust the positioning, I'm pretty sure that is what caused this to happen (it's what causes the hood not to line up right)

I finally had a chance to look at it some more today. I've checked everything I could think of and still have no idea why it happened:
I loosened the two bolts that hold the airbox onto the body and there is no more than 1/8" movement front to back.
The snorkel that broke is sitting flat down on the brace so it can't go any lower.
the hood is sitting on it's stops and they are adjusted to the right height so the hood didn't go lower than it was supposed to.
I don't know what else to look at. It is just cosmetic and it won't bother me too much but it still sucks.
William.
Ugh. I'm real sorry to hear that. Where did you get it from? Maybe you can get a replacement? I had no fitment problems with mine.

William, I just caught this thread and I'm so sorry that happened. If you need to take a look at mine to see the difference, maybe that will help.
