What: ZHPMafia.com meet where ZHPs and fighter jets commingle.
When: During the week of April 23-26, 2012.

April 23rd 2012 - Monday
April 25th 2012 - Wednesday
April 26th 2012 - Thursday

Where: Cold Lake, Alberta, Canada
Why?: because you know how we do

All right. We've been cleared for take off. Unfortunately, only 13 people will be able to fly in a fighter jet. The moderators of ZHPMafia.com and Casey Withers of C Withers Media, are the only guaranteed passengers at this point. That means that there are 10 more spots available for members of ZHPMafia.com. Each flight will be 1.5 hours in duration.

Here's how we're going to do it. Get on the list. We'll eventually get a date. Once we have that date, the list will close a week later. That allows people to consider whether they can go. You'll essentially have a week to get your name onto the list for consideration. In the meantime, you'd be smart to get your passports in order if you think there is a remote chance you want to go.

If you are serious about going, and WILL NOT back out (meaning nothing will get in the way of you getting to Canada and participating), please add your name to the list of people who want to be considered for the plane ride. The six participants will be picked randomly. I'll see if I can get Meric to pull the names.

Cold Lake, AB, Canada is some 1900 miles from San Diego. It's 2300 miles from NYC. If you plan to fly in, the nearest, largest city to Cold Lake is Edmonton. You'll need a US passport if you fly. If you are driving, you'll only need a US passbook. I'd recommend a passport, though, since it's a much more versatile option.

Also, if you are not a member of the site as of today, November 22, 2011, you are not eligible to participate. This will help me avoid having people join the site for the sole purpose of participating in this event.

Finally, C Withers Media will be covering the event for ZHPMafia.com. Casey, owner of C Withers Media, will be shooting from the cockpit of an CF-18 as well as from the runway during the event. We're pleased that Casey will be covering the event for us.

Without further ado, please throw your name in if you are serious about attending this event. At this point, we only know that it will happen during the spring. The date will get firmed up soon enough. If you put your name on the list, and get picked, make sure you do not flake out and decide you cannot go. I'll ban you from the site if you do that. Ha! Seriously, though, make sure that nothing will get in the way of you attending if you get picked.

Some restrictions:

If you have any scar (medium degree) that happened last 2 months before the flight you cannot get a ride.
If you have any stitches at the time of the plane ride, you cannot fly.

Here are the some restricitions:

Need confirmation date. The only way I'm backing out is if it falls mid semester. This would also cancel my summer backpacking trip across Europe...but I'm okay with that. Spring break would be ideal.

Just did some very rough calculations and it seems that if gas is $3.50, and I get 30mpg highway. Then I can expect to see an expense of $250 each direction on my 4k mile adventure.

I didn't even mention any audio equipment, I only mentioned the videography equipment that I noticed being used in the video. Plus, experience plays a large hand in what was accomplished there. What you are implying is the equivalent of giving some random person my camera and expecting "similar" results.

My suggestion based on your desire to see this video played out in a solid, professional format, is to show up and handle it. I would love to have in motion footage beyond the goPro footage I will be shooting.

Yes I managed to find a video of our F/A-18 ride to our maintainers. :D This was long long ago. They kept our asses in the air so we decided to give them a ride! :) This video was taken after our dog-fight practice everybody was dead and tired :D I was flying the other plane, leading home. My passanger got so sick and tired :D He was begging me to limit G limit to 3. :D it was limited to 8.5G's :D .5 than other planes. Shh :shift Enjoy! Our mafia meeting will be like this! :D

Flight to Alberta is no problem b/c my mother is a Delta retiree and I can fly for dirt cheap at a moment's notice, so long as there is room on the plane. If anyone pulls out last second, I am your guy.

For me it's about a 17 hour drive one way. Lots of great roads and views on the way, so I'd very likely drive it rather than fly out. Especially if there's a chance of getting a pic of the ZHP w/ an F18!

I'm not worried about snow. Actually taking the ZHP (and my buddy is driving his E92 335) to Kamloops (Sun Peaks) on Friday for 5 nights of Skiing. Should be a blast!

I'm not worried about snow for short trips around town....but it's the others on the road and the unpredictability of varying types of snow that my performance winters would have issues with which would make for a very exhausting drive. Dry = fun the whole way!! I've been to Trail,BC in a courtesy car 323i with all seasons and snowfall....that was a loooong and tiring trip!

Get on the list. We'll eventually get a date. Once we have that date, the list will close a week later. That allows people to consider whether they can go. You'll essentially have a week to get your name onto the list for consideration.

What is a medium degree scar? I ask because I busted my nose recently (tripped over my friend's dog and face planted into a door-jam). I am definitely going to have a scar, it has been nearly a month and I still have skin discoloration along with your normal skin deformation.

On the blood pressure, I am just on the high-side of normal. Is that a no-no?

The date is just fine for me, since I didn't have a preference for a date, anyway. Hell, I'd probably take a week off just to simply sit on the tarmac at idle for 10 minutes in a plane like that, so a Monday flight is fine.

For what it's worth, I should be getting my Class II Medical Certification in a week or two since I'm taking flight lessons for a pilot's license.

You can bring anything you want. But You cannot bring earphones in to the plane. We will provide you noise canceling headphones.

Guys all the flights will be done in 3 days. So following days that we are going to fly is:

April 23rd 2012 - Monday
April 25th 2012 - Wednesday
April 26th 2012 - Thursday.

Each flight is 1.5 hours. We will circle around the town then head towards to the Rocky mountains. You will get a chance to fly the airplane.

Guys all the flights will be done in 3 days. So following days that we are going to fly is:

April 23rd 2012 - Monday
April 25th 2012 - Wednesday
April 26th 2012 - Thursday.

Each flight is 1.5 hours. We will circle around the town then head towards to the Rocky mountains. You will get a chance to fly the airplane.
