For the ones who have not been "the chosen one..." I am surely convinced that patience will be a virtue and that one day we will get the chance to experience something as great as being a sidekick to a fight jet pilot. :D Who knows maybe we will get chosen to go into space next year. LOL. For those who are going and feel bad...don't feel bad. You're going on a trip of something you can't just book with your travel agent. There must be some reason you've been picked too! So enjoy the experience. And find whatever fuels your excitement during this chapter in your lives and share what you've learned with others!

I will still try to make it up there to visit some of you guys. Hopefully the weather will be nice to drive there and maybe I would get the honors to help give someone a lift as I goto Cold Lake or leave to goto Edmonton. :) Thanks to Meric for making something like this happen. As I told a few of my friends last night, it would have been a natural for you to participate in the flight, Trevor. You live there in Canada. You're an active member of the site. That's some cool irony right there. Looks like a picked the wrong couple of months to drop 30 pounds and get in shape...

Its kind of a double edged sword though. On one hand, yes high blood pressure helps G tolerance. Although, if you are not in good shape high G's wear you out very quickly. Also people I in poorer shape are more susceptible to G rash. If you're pulling more than 5 or so G's, don't be surprised if you get G rash. Its just a minor breaking of capillary blood vessels near the skin surface and roughly looks kind of like a rash.

All right. Was hoping to avoid this but I must bow out. Been trying to rearrange the situation for the past 5 days, but I cannot get out of a scheduling conflict. Something that was supposed to happen in July (moving into new place) is now happening on May 1. That's just too close to the fighter jet meet (which is just four days before that).

As a result, I am unable to attend the Canada meet.

I will be at the Virginia meet in May, though.

It's definitely not going to feel quite right with the guy who started the site not being there but sometimes life doesn't work that way. Hopefully a 930 and a ride in an F-18 are still in the cards for you some day.

I'm working on flights right now and the only thing I found that works within my wife's work schedule and the baby's daycare is for me to fly out 6am Wed, with a layover in Seattle that gets me into Edmonton Noon and I guess Cold Lake 4pm? That would leave Thur as my only day to ride and I'm not sure if that causes problem for anyone else. If that causes to problems I can make other arrangements to Fly up Tuesday as flights on Mon are almost non existent at this point.

Return flight I'm looking at 6pm Friday.

Meric, if I bring my logbook, can you sign off the 1.5 hours flight time (I guess it would be dual given?) or would that conflict with the U.S. FARs?

That is interesting. Looking at some FARs of note:

61.51 (h) Logging training time. (1) A person may log training time when that person receives training from an authorized instructor in an aircraft, flight simulator, or flight training device.
(2) The training time must be logged in a logbook and must:
(i) Be endorsed in a legible manner by the authorized instructor; and
(ii) Include a description of the training given, the length of the training lesson, and the authorized instructor's signature, certificate number, and certificate expiration date.

61.41 (a) A person may credit flight training toward the requirements of a pilot certificate or rating issued under this part, if that person received the training from:
(1) A flight instructor of an Armed Force in a program for training military pilots of either --
(i) The United States; or
(ii) A foreign contracting State to the Convention on International Civil Aviation.
(2) A flight instructor who is authorized to give such training by the licensing authority of a foreign contracting State to the Convention on International Civil Aviation, and the flight training is given outside the United States.
(b) A flight instructor described in paragraph (a) of this section is only authorized to give endorsements to show training given.

If Meric is authorized as an instructor I'd say you could log it! I know if I get picked I'm bringing my logbook, just because. I probably wouldn't bother trying to have the 1.5 hrs count towards any certificate though.

Well, Meric said he'd be letting us take controls for a moment. I figured that can be considered instruction, since it's like my instructor giving me the controls. So long as Canada is applicable under 61.41 (a)(1)(ii) or Meric is applicable under 61.41 (a)(2) or 61.41(a)(b). I think I wrote those correctly.

bad news for me, i will NOT be able to make it and will need to humbly give up my spot. I started a new job doing financial advising and loan consulting but have nearly NO clientele that followed me to my new firm so I have to rebuild my pipeline. As others have said, Meric... what you did was an awesome thing :thumbsup It is understandable that you can not change how fast everything will be formally approved to make this happen but you did everything you could. I set up a business trip to Calgary that week as I''m way overdue to get up there anyway, so should be able to come over, but not knowing what days what happens and such it gets a bit strange from the business angle especially if I have meetings scheduled etc......... :-)

I haven't purchased, but I'm holding miles aside for this (the only way I could do it and this will empty my account). And, as you know, the closer you get, the more miles/fees they pile on. Understand it's very different than a purchase, but others might be in the same boat as far as using miles.
