What about Albert and Lawrence?
Marcus-SanDiego
11-22-2011, 04:36 PM
Albert and Lawrence have not confirmed that they can be there on this date. I believe that Albert will be in Las Vegas on that weekend.
It's very difficult to find a weekend when everyone is available, so we do our best to make it on a weekend when most people can be there.
Lawrence may be able to attend December 3. Just haven't received confirmation from him yet.

Who wants to donate their car to be detailed this Saturday? We need a donor car. The only caveat is that you need to wash your car (just a simple wash) before it gets detailed. Let me know if someone wants to do it.

Looks like I cannot make it because we're taking my daughter to LegoLand Saturday. So I may not be that far away! If LegoLand plans fall through, can I walk-in without a RSVP and pay on-site?

Looks like I'm out. Wifey registered for a class unbeknownst to me, so I've got the kids. Guess I should have told her of my plans earlier. Thought about getting a sitter but I'm doing that Friday to go see Dream Theater while she gets together with her gang. Not gonna push things so soon after Vegas, lol. John

Just a note on why the annual event is located in Virginia.
It's my belief that the east coast reps this site more than anyone. And though they don't have the small meets that we have from time to time, they spend more time on the site and they drive hundreds, if not thousands, of miles to get to Virginia.
I do not believe that I could get west coast peeps to do the same if the event was located in the western half of the US.
I have a theory on why that is, though. We have a lot of car events around here. Many of us have been in the BMW scene for a long time. As a result, people on the west coast just aren't too excited by yet another meet--even if it's a meet that only happens once a year. I know plenty of people, for example, who don't go to bimmerfest, even though it's in our backyard.

the only event for the BMW community that i have seen that the SoCal BMWs roll to on a regular basis no matter when it is, is MFest. Supposedly the turnout this year is coming out to be over 500 cars. Last year it was about 452 i want to say but dont quote me on that one. i'm really excited as i hope to have my car some where presentable. if not, the next year i will be ready to fit in more haha.
Marcus, i agree. remember we tried to get a West Coast reunion going but after a long conversation about how everyone is always so busy out here, it just wouldn't work? well it is true. even if we were to get people to come out here, there are a lot more fun activities to do then sit around a parking lot and talk. i think if we did an event as large as a reunion here, it would have to be a travelers trip with stops at places like Disneyland, San Diego, etc.

I agree with the Boss, but at the same time I plan on going to MFest VI (Albert can drool at Imola as he follows me) and I'm already trying to figure out where I will be staying in 2013 for Oktoberfest (Laguna or Vegas?). I will probably skip Bimmerfest but I might go to Big SoCal Euro.
imagine this for about 250 miles...

Looks like the Legoland trip might be postponed, which means I might be able to attend tomorrow. A few dumb questions from a new Mafia associate.
1) Where is it? At Detailer's Domain? I don't think the address was
2) Can I just show up without RSVP and pay the $20?
3) Is it bad if I show up in a dirty ZHP? I'm not expected my car to be the guinea pig, just don't want to offend any clean car nuts
4) Would it be rude to come for only an hour?
Finally... can I bring a child to watch? Or is this adults only event for whatever reason (like insurance, beer, conversational topics, etc.). Believe it or not, she has a little bit of interest in washing cars and has helped me wash mine, but she would get bored after about 30 minutes so I would have to bring some books or games for her.

2. Yes. I told James that we may have a few drop ins.
3. No worries about having a dirty car. You can park on the street. No one will see your car. If anyone does, no one will care if it's dirty.
4. Would not be rude to come for an hour.
5. Bring the kid. We will be in a garage at a house. Should not be an issue. You'll have to keep a fairly close eye on her, though.
See ya there.

Thanks! Now I see the address in the first post. Not sure how I missed that before. I've driven that way several times to get to Qualcomm Stadium, and James' house is even closer! Whether or not my kid joins me, I hope I can make it! (And if she comes, I promise she won't put swirl marks on anyone's paint using improper washing technique.)
My wife recently complained that I spend too much time on car forums and not enough time meeting new people. Her wish is granted! Though I don't think she intended that I go meet the folks from the BMW car forums. I'll tell her it's a secret BMW Mafia ritual and maybe that will get her interested in coming too. Because while my wife isn't into cars, she washes hers a lot more often than I wash mine!
Maybe after James has shown us how to detail a car to perfection, the Top Gun Navy aviators will do a flyby in honor of the perfectly clean car...
"Negative, Maverick. The pattern is full."

I thought you were going to say, "You missed a spot!" Also posted a shorter video of Jeff polishing a different door.
Edit: And here's one reason I didn't detail my car yesterday... because today I took it to the "Streets of Willow" for a track day. Every time I was down the front straight (which made my car feel more powerful because it's a downhill straight), I was thinking "Better shift before 6100 RPM!" You can see photos of my car on the track photographer's web site here:
http://www.caliphotography.com/photos/index.php?vp=2&do=photocart&viewGallery=16837
I zip-tied a plastic pumpkin to my roof rack to make it easy to pick out of the photo thumbnails... and to scare any slower drivers in front of me. But most of the drivers in my group (lower intermediate) were actually faster than I am, and when I did a guest stint in the next group up (high intermediate), EVERY other driver was faster than me, at least all the ones who got timing.
Great video. Interesting technique.

Nice! How did you like the DAS?
looks like some bigger sway bars/coilovers might be the next mod for you

Yes, still on stock springs and getting a wee bit of body roll! DAS seemed to help a little but I don't have an apples-to-apples comparison. For that need to go back to AutoClub Speedway on a warm day, run the Roval config and make sure my camera can see the speedo.

Just FYI, the guy that had the fastest time this weekend at Qualcomm only had intake and coilovers on his M3 ZCP. He was 16 seconds faster than the ZHP that ran but I'm sure driver had a big part to do with that. I'm sure the ZHP could've been at least 5-6 seconds faster (I was talking to the car's PO who now drives a M5)

M-mod or Gold class? Coilovers suggests camber plates also.
Hermes
12-06-2011, 08:23 AM
M-mod. Gold is the instructor class. Yeah, I'm sure camber plates too. I was just trying to say no real engine tuning, just a bolt on intake
