That's different but I would find this distracting more than anything else while driving. I don't want to be "that guy" while driving but then my AL/ZKWs are brighter now and occasionally I get that high beam tap from oncoming drivers… I'm thinking that having that flicker on top of everything would be even more annoying to the oncoming drivers… I'll pass.

Yesterday I went from this type of Homelink rear view mirror

http://i395.photobucket.com/albums/pp37/macdctr/Library2/-1625642610613131620_zpsdc411208.jpg

to one that looks identical to this but with a low profile grey clown-nose instead. Why the change? I have never seen this type of mirror on an E46, Tony happened to have it and he was more than gracious enough to do the swap, which really surprised me.... Again Tony has contributed something to my ZHP project thread. I really appreciate Tony's very kind gesture because it was totally unexpected :thumbsup

I didn't have a pic because it's already dark outside. I will get a day time pic of the new mirror and post it in this post when I get it....

I was sitting in my car for awhile this morning, do these new knobs stick out far enough? They seem lower profile than the stock ones, just curious if this causes any issues when using them? I typically use the steering wheel for volume and rarely use the other knob except to tell the thing to go back to nav (shouldn't there be a time-out option where it will do that automatically?).

Just a random thought I had, thanks!

cakM3
12-02-2014, 08:57 AM
Yes the new knobs don't stick out as far as the OE knobs but that doesn't bother me at all. I can still manipulate the knobs just as easily as I did using the OE knobs. As far as I know, there's no time out feature for our Navi....

Absolutely no issues using these new knobs....

Thanks for the additional info, if an issue does start to occur, shoot me a PM, these are on my list, but I don't have any pressing issues to fix (KNOCKS ON WOOD!) so I probably won't order anything until something breaks or its time to order a new front bumper and headlight covers (hoping for May!).

Yeah Charlie & I talked about it today, if you're getting her to breathe and eat better, you also need to get her to expend the waste better too. Doing these combinations of mods in a logical order does make a noticeable improvement to our ZHPs.

Oops, that didn't mean installing them in any particular order is illogical, but you have to do all of the breathing & exhaust mods to get the full benefit.

I haven't looked into this too deeply but the master cylinder on the non-M I feel may not be adequate for the additional piston area that it's aiming to push. Pedal feel has a possibility of not feeling 100% of what it should be.

I don't know the diameter sizes for the master cylinder of a non-M but I have a suspicion it is not an M model.

This thread has a few calculated brake bias but the way Charlie's setup is, it might need to be manual calculated.

Matt, I put that sticker in that location for the purpose of being subtle so that whenever I get pulled over by the State Troopers here in the wonderful state of Rhode Island the officer will see that sticker as he/she is walking up to my car. The sticker is not really for the car as much as it is for me since I have attained the "AARP" age....;) Both my ///M and ZHP have this sticker located in the same place :thumbsup

I love this sticker....many thanks to Brett for sending them to me :biggrin

I'm not hating at all my friend, my zhp rocked a Hitman Fight Gear (my sponsor) sticker in the same location for similar reason to yours. When or if I got pulled over, I always got asked if I was a fighter. Priceless

I have two ongoing lists in the notes section of my phone, "To Do" and "Next Parts Order." Seems like as soon as one gets completed, something else pops up. Sometimes I miss the days of yore when the car was under warranty/maintenance and I didn't have said lists. But I also had a car payment that was higher than my house payment at one point, and I don't miss that!

I greatly enjoy living vicariously through your ZHP thread. If I wasn't paying $400/mo in student loans I could do fun things to my ZHP. Oh well, maybe in about 7 years I can afford to. sigh At least she's paid for and the maintenance is mostly up to date, mostly.

Bruce recommended I get a set of Stett Performance E46 M54 Silicone Throttle Body Boots and I have been checking out their web site from time to time. The night before last before arriving to Seattle I decided to send those guys an email inquiring when a set in red would be available...

Well....as luck will have it I got an email from them today telling me that they had a red set available so I responded with my PayPal and will be getting this in time to install along with my DINAN throttle body. Guess luck is on Charrie's side ;)

Peter,

I went to the Stett Performance web site and then under their contact us link, sent them an email. Chad Stett sent a reply telling me that he had the red Stett Performance intake boots if I was interested so I got them :) Bruce told me that the Stett intake boots were hard to get so I figured it wouldn't hurt to send them an email....I'm glad I did! :thumbsup

Nice to have another performance mod completed on my ZHP :thumbsup

Thanks Bruce for this opportunity!! :)

For those wondering... difficulty of changing out the throttle body for an improved one such as the DINAN one I used today was not too hard. The hardest part of changing out the throttle body was removing interference but that in itself is not too difficult. Just time consuming. While I was there I cleaned out the idle control valve and it was dirty. Some brake cleaner and elbow grease did the job and I had a clean idle control valve to put back into the ZHP when I was ready to put everything back together. All in all I'm glad I did this swap. The ZHP feels much better....a more refined performance. Those with a DINAN throttle body can also chime their experience. :thumbsup

John, car seems to pull better in the low to mid RPM range. It just seems the engine is running much smoother now....can't wait till I do a tune to take full advantage of all my performance mods ;)

Already have one :thumbsup Mike Miggs is selling these for Challenge who incidentally makes the carbon fiber roofs found on the 1M and E90 ///Ms. Instead of purchasing mine from Mike, I went to the source and purchased mine from them…:) Challenge does not make carbon fiber roof panels for sedans. These are only for coupes.

I think there's a company in Spain that makes full carbon fiber roof panel for E46 sedans. I will have to dig the information up. Even if there is one available, I don't want to do this for my ZHP…I figure having one E46 with a full carbon fiber roof panel is enough ;)

edit: Karbonius sells a full carbon fiber roof panel overlay for sedans. Not sure I would want to do this to my ZHP. Kind of pricy if you ask me…

It can be done though if you have to have a full carbon fiber roof panel :)

Go to Patrick's Maintenance thread (link below) and to post #89 to see his before and after pics.
http://www.zhpmafia.com/forums/showthread.php?13168-FinanceGuy-s-Maintance-thread-04-imola/page9 (http://www.zhpmafia.com/forums/showthread.php?13168-FinanceGuy-s-Maintance-thread-04-imola/page9)

I retrofitted OEM M3 "AL" projectors into his ZKW headlight assemblies. I knew I would be working on Patrick's headlights so I made up the internals with the parts I already had on hand. Got them all finished up so all I had to do is swap out the internals to get Patrick all sorted out. When he got to my place this morning from the moment we started taking out his headlight assemblies to when we tested the lights it took me roughly 45 minutes to do the swap. I'm getting good at doing this I guess ;)

It is unfortunate that we have to resort to doing this unless you want to shell out over $1k for new headlight assemblies. $2400 for a complete new set of ZKW headlight assemblies. No thanks! I'm happy with the solution I now have with my ZHP and happy that I'm able to help a few friends out as well :thumbsup

Daniel, I will be painting my bootlid next month (March) instead of this month and then working on my 135i rear calipers sometime in April along with getting Peter's lumbar heated front seats. Then oil changes in May and ZHP should be ready for the trip to the reunion meet. Anyway.... that's the plan right now.
