Go to the craft store and pick up fabric glue, works great. That's what I used when I did the shitty Bimmian ones a while back

How has it held up Derek?
Incredibly. Although I wipe it down with a damp cloth every month. and If I drive freeway, I hope the bottom spoke area or I put my hands on top of the two 3-9 spokes inside the wheel. I barely touch the alcantara portion on the top or sides unless I'm tracking the car.
cakM3
03-21-2013, 05:48 AM
Derek, I will keep in mind to wipe the wheel with a damp cloth on a monthly basis. I also tend to hold my wheel at the bottom spoke area on the most part as well as the 3 or 9 o'clock positions. Every now and then I brush lightly the top area of the wheel just to feel how soft the new alcantara is...:)

I think sometimes a monthly basis is a bit overkill. My actual steering control trim piece is getting a little shinier because I put my hand there instead of holding the full wheel lol.
Sometimes I get a soft (usually old toothbrush that is worn and softer) to lift areas that have been flattened by use. Usually this is the 3 9 and 6 positions on my wheel. It definitely helps break out the dirt and oils from the wheel.
Now my alcantara seats... That's another story...

For those of you who have either lurked or followed my project thread....I'm planning to refresh my ZHP's suspension as soon as I'm finished with all of my business traveling. This should be within a few weeks when I have my new coilovers installed. I am also working the carbon fiber engine covers (no... I didn't forget them folks!) and will have them ready for install for the upcoming spring/summer season. I already have my rear carbon fiber diffuser ready for install...;)
Right now the plan is to swap out my winter wheels once I get wheel studs (looking at buying Rob's set ATM) installed and then do the coilover install...:)

As for the sound difference question, I haven't noticed anything. Theoretically they should only make a difference at mid to high speed so ambient noise drowns out whatever minuscule difference may be noticed

What's wrong with your doors?
I'm very surprised you missed the cosmetic flaws while I had my ZHP in your garage last May while doing my VANOS! I would have never guessed you would miss this detail. The driver's door under my mirror has been dented in and out at several spots thanks to the original owner. The front fender was also damaged, thanks to the second owner so now I was faced with having to repair these unsightly blemishes. Thanks to a donor, I managed to secure a perfect condition front driver's fender (stored in my spare bedroom at the moment) and a front driver's door (getting packaged to send out on Thursday). Once the replacement Imola door arrives, I plan to swap out my key locks and any remaining parts onto the new door, drill new holes to mount my OEM M3 side mirrors and then complete the swap with a door that is in perfect condition. I don't think I have to worry much about paint not matching since this is a Florida 2004 car and I have a New England 2003 car.....of course there's assumption at work for you...;) bottom line is that the two areas that have been nagging at me (just as much as those dreaded pinstripes) will soon be eliminated and my ZHP will be one step closer to perfection for me :thumbsup
I've been speaking with him too for my weather gutter. Seems like a reliable guy.

I agree with you Dane but for $500 shipped this turned out to be the perfect option. Compared to getting the door professionally repaired, swapping out both panels ended up far cheaper than having a reputable body shop perform repairs on existing "damaged" panels. This way I end up with two perfect panels instead. Yes, probably more work having to unplug and reconnect everything but in the long run much cheaper on the wallet to get the desired results :thumbsup
Best part is that they came off from a 330i ZHP painted in Imolarot - FTW!

I ran out of daylight so I will post pics of the new ride height tomorrow after returning from work. I have a feeling that I will be adjusting the rears even more so I can get them a little lower...here's the front anyway...

My ZHP is getting lots of TLC...:wub
Charlie you might wanna give it a day or two of driving to settle depending on how far work is. I assume it'd settle pretty fast and I guess you can always adjust back up if needed.
The rears were harder for me to adjust with my setup because I had to drop the shock in order to reach the spring adjustment.
It looks great by the way.

The previous suspension was OE replaced @ 137,550 miles. It was soft and had to be changed out...probably should have been changed out at 80k instead of now...but at least it's done :thumbsup Appreciate the positive feedback DW :thumbsup

Your seats are worn? Mine are completely dead :(
Tony,
You have seen my ZHP so you know the condition of my car. As for my driver's seat bolsters, yes... they have holes in them and the holes were repaired and as nice as the seat covers look, they are no longer in perfect shape. I have stitching where the holes were and Heather has done an awesome job doing the repairs! The reason you don't know this is because I have put black BMW seat covers over my seats in an attempt to preserve what is already there...
The problem I'm having is dealing with my OCD regarding the ZHP's inteior. When I got my ZHP I wasn't completely happy with the condition of my silver cube interior trim (you can ask BP about this) and ended up going to the dealership to purchase a complete set of new silver cube interior trim to replace the ones that were already in my car. I shelled out some cash but to me it was worth having a mint set inside...

@ Derek.....waiting to hear your review of the M3 rear diff swap that you recently did on your ZHP....would like to know all the pros and cons in doing this swap :thumbsup
Cons:
Labor intensive.
Used parts = a lot of variations on what needs to be replaced depending on the source of parts. I replaced bushings, new diff cover, new center bearing, rotors, pads, shoes, new abs sensors. The abs sensors of a 02+ will have blue abs sensors. If you don't have those, it can cost upwards to $250 for them....Other potential parts that can be replaced are wheel hubs, balljoints. I had a few missing parts that werent crucial ie. pushrod and v brace.
Mismatching parts can develop confusion if you dont do all M parts.
Pros:
LSD < -- is the main reason I got it in the first place.
M3 rear brakes = M3 rear parking brake (much larger)
Badass heatsink hiding underneath and expose due to the lack of a center exhaust hiding it. It reminds me of the AMG Mercedes. (I admit this is an EGO pro) lol.
Neutral:
IMO 3.64 gear ratio change is a neutral point. It has its pros and cons. The ZHP now feels SUPER responsive with the short gears. It feels like its in the perfect RPM zone for city driving everytime. However, that also means MPG does decrease a bit but not by much. I haven't daily driven the car since the LSD has been installed so I can't really say by how much. It's definitely maybe 1-2mpg tops.
~3000rpm = 70mph in 6th gear
Most important Pro point:
///M.

Charlie, do you ever scrape your chin?

Channing....all the time if I let it. To be honest, I haven't scraped my chin once since putting on my Arqray lip and even with the much lower stance, I still don't scrape but I'm more careful where I drive since the lowered stance. No speed bumps for me...:thumbsup

This year (2013) I plan to do the following for the ZHP :)
- replace windshield with rain sensor windshield
- route new autodim/rain sensor wiring loom
- retrofit auto headlight/rain sensor wipers
- retrofit full lumbar support into my ZHP driver's and passenger's seats
- transfer my carbon fiber back shell from the ///M to my ZHP seats
- address two rust spots found on the driver's side (one on the driver'
s A-pillar, and the other at the bottom of the trim behind the rear side window)
- respray the roof and hood
- replace front driver's fender
- replace front driver's door
Of course there's maintenance items to do as well but maybe I will be doing more mods as the year goes on......

Yes. the ABS activation is interesting as it does happen alot when you run into a corner a little too hot. I'm curious if people will understand BFD stage 3 on the track besides at BMWCCA events.

Have you tested the brake force display at higher speeds? During my low-speed test, it seemed like it only started flashing after I came to a complete stop. Ideally it should come on as soon as ABS engages (or even a little before). I guess I'll have to try getting to 60 or so before braking... but ideally that wouldn't be in my neighborhood :)

I think I found the setting that controls the delay of when it comes on, but I can't be sure if that's what it is without further testing. It appears that changing this setting is the difference between it blinking while stopping and after stopping. I'll test it a little further and will post when verified.

I don't know. I already set all the delays to wert_02 (the actual data for those settings corresponds to "0"). The only one I haven't messed with yet is "BFD3_ASC_TIMER"
I did test with stopping from 60mph -- they do start flashing before a complete stop, but there was definitely a bit of a delay.

cakM3
06-12-2013, 09:43 AM
Nic,
the sharkfin is OE and has the BMW Assist antenna inside. Right now I'm looking to obtain a 13th gen TCU (much cheaper than the ULF module) and retrofit BMW assist to my ZHP
Stigissimo
06-12-2013, 09:46 AM
Ahhh ok. Don't see to many of those on e46s - at least as far as I've seen. Looks cool.
cakM3
06-12-2013, 09:53 AM
Nic, at first I was going to retrofit my high-gain SIRIUS antenna inside the sharkfin antenna housing and then run it inside just like OE but decided to just run the sharkfin just as it is and get the 13th gen TCU instead for a cleaner install. Then I would have BMW assist which I would rather have since I take both cars on long-distance road trips. Better to have piece of mind...:thumbsup
Yeah, you don't see too many with sharkfin antennas here...but that's what it's used for just so you know.

What is needed for TMPS? :)
After adding $251 to the VO and installing a centre console switch with the tire reset button, you'll also need to run a wire from the switch console to the DSC unit.
Otherwise pressing the button has no effect since it's not connected to anything. This is what I have been living with until yesterday....:/
Tony stopped by to help me run that one wire... pin 40 on the connector (X18303) that plugs into the DSC (A65) to the long connector (X1869) Pin 2 that plugs the button panel with the tire reset switch.
One thing to note is that the DSC plug resides in the engine bay so the end that goes into that plug has to have the rubber (water resistent) connector to prevent moisture intrusion into that plug.
Now the next mod is to retrofit rain sensor/auto wipers and auto headlights.....then the ZHP will have all the factory options I care to have for her....:thumbsup Not bad for an '03 ZHP :biggrin

Actually Derek, compared to changing out the OFHG.... this was nothing! So much easier as long as you had the right cable with waterproof connector and long enough wire to snake it through the firewall and reach the center console where the TPMS switch is located. Locating the connectors was not difficult at all and it was made easier by having Tony there to help me do the retrofit since he's done the bulk of the research to get his done. :thumbsup
