I am looking forward to getting this done but sometimes it is better to weigh in what is more important...in this case helping out a good friend :thumbsup

All in all a total win :)

Okay folks....I'm side stepping a bit and will get to my BMW performance shifter. I have an issue concerning my OFHG and am losing some oil so this upcoming weekend I will be taking on this job. Can't believe that it's going to be so much work for a small gasket...:facepalm

Anyway.... this will be the next maintenance issue I need to get sorted out before doing the shifter swap. ;) Car is looking so clean right now.....I can't help :drool over my Imola ZHP :)

Since you have the oil filter housing out I would suggest doing the oil separator system as well. Don't forget to replace the vanos oil line too!

I finally got my OFHG replaced although I reused my VANOS line, I did replace all my crush washers. The complete job from start to finish took about 3-3 1/2 hours to complete. It was very messy and I only wish I had access to a garden hose and lots of simple green but did manage to clean a little :)

http://img.tapatalk.com/64280191-92cf-7ed6.jpg
Started out by taking out my CAI and electric fan

http://img.tapatalk.com/64280191-92f8-e729.jpg
Then took out the oil filter cap and filter

http://img.tapatalk.com/64280191-9322-b2b2.jpg
Disconnected the alternator then took out the bolts securing it.
http://img.tapatalk.com/64280191-935a-b6e1.jpg

http://img.tapatalk.com/64280191-936c-0547.jpg
Alternator removed and I can now see the Oil Filter Housing and all the oily mess

http://img.tapatalk.com/64280191-93a6-a0e2.jpg
Removing the bolts. They are all different sizes so you have to set them aside in such a manner you will know how to put them back in the proper order...

http://img.tapatalk.com/64280191-9414-a1f7.jpg
I was amazed by how flat this gasket was! Here's another angle of the "flattened" OE gasket

New gasket replaced, notice how it sticks out

Old gasket on rag, new one installed :)
http://img.tapatalk.com/64280191-94a9-349b.jpg

Now to get everything back together...

http://img.tapatalk.com/64280191-94d4-6cc8.jpg
http://img.tapatalk.com/64280191-94e2-2ff2.jpg
http://img.tapatalk.com/64280191-94f0-142d.jpg

Even got my alternator polished a bit :thumbsup
http://img.tapatalk.com/64280191-951c-c2da.jpg

All in all not too hard to do...just takes time to remove all the interference. I wish I had a workbench and a shop with adequate lighting to really do this job!

Had a great lunch afterwards and cooling off inside my apartment after doing this job :thumbsup Glad I had BP here to help out!!!

I have been doing some research concerning rain sensor/auto headlight retrofit to my 2003 ZHP. So far the part numbers needed to do the wiring harness for the rain sensor are:

61356923954 K-Bus Rain Sensor - X1
61138380696 4-Pole plug housing - X1
61130005197 Contact for plug - X4
61131387140 Contact for distribution block - X2
61130007439 Contact for fuse - X1
61131386626 5 amp fuse - X1

My cost for these parts will be $130 :)

Some retrofit guides I have converted to PDF documents to share are:
5399
5400
5401
5402
5403

If anyone has something to contribute please feel free to do so. My goal is to have a fully functioning rainsensor/auto headlight. :) When I start this retrofit, I will be taking my time so that I can get all the required pics (step-by-step) needed to make the wiring harness and where each wire is connected to based on the information I have already obtained. I would like to make this such that anyone reading the DIY will be able to easily follow it do do their own retrofit should they desire. :thumbsup

Dalton,

Believe it or not, I use Griot's Best of Show wax and Rejex sealer on my black trim. The grills are BMW Performance Grills. On the body trim I use Meguiar's Trim Detailer. Works the best! :thumbsup

Okay thanks!

I borrowed (:shifty) this accent stuff from work and it makes my trim black.. but it seems to wash off. I'm not sure if yours does the same.

Have you tried the Magic Eraser method yet? I have and it works.. but I prefer my trim to be black and not just the dull black that was OE

Pip
08-12-2012, 07:27 AM
Are you using the magic eraser on the plastic trim? If so that's fine but I'd be very weary of using it in the shadowline trim. It'll take the clear off.

If you want the shadowline to pop you can use a buffer with some sealant or something so you're not polishing or taking away the clear. I accidentally hit mine while sealing the car and noticed it took away the oily asphalt look.

Derek,

That ensures the car never breaks down at the most inopportune moment.

A few weeks ago, this was emphasized to me when the fuel pump in my ///M failed leaving BP and I stranded at a rest stop over 200 miles from my house. I can tell you the stranded feeling sucks.

Luckily I had plenty of help verifying that it was indeed my fuel pump that had failed. About $800 later a new fuel pump was installed and BP and I was on our way to meet up with Rob, Kristen, Ryan, and Kyle.

It is always better, and cheaper, to do preventive maintenance over reactive maintenance. That fuel pump replacement, had I done this as preventive maintenance, would have only cost me $400...:facepalm

derbo
08-14-2012, 03:34 PM
Oh I know all about the fuel pump.

I was doing a weekly diagnostic check on my car on the ISSS machine and saw I had a 28-time fault for fuel pump level sensor without a fault currently present. I replaced my fuel pump and fuel level sensor as well as installing the M3 fuel pump baffle.

I also done my window regulators the minute they start clicking I replace them so I don't have to have a window stuck open.

My whole cooling system was done the minute I saw a fault on my thermostat logged on the fault memory. During my clutch job, I did a rear main seal, guibo mount, new clips, pivot pins, and all the shift bushings for a full refresh!

I dont like downtime either Charlie!

:)

I didn't think about doing my rear main seal....the thought never occured to me to do that. How hard is it to do Derek?

Hornung418

Rear main seal needs to have the transmission dropped in order to access it. Do that when you change the clutch and flywheel...not for the guibo, Charlie.

Today with Chad's assistance I was able to get my BMW Performance SSK installed without having to take apart the drivetrain or exhaust...:)

With 128k miles on the original shifter I was not surprised to see dirt/dust on the shift lever ball. It was worn and was in need of replacement. The ball was loose when engaging gears.

http://i395.photobucket.com/albums/pp37/macdctr/ScreenShot2012-08-22at30512PM-1.png

When I got the shift lever out all that dirt went all over inside the car so I will have to use a vacuum cleaner later to get the car cleaned up inside...:)

Jacking up the car we used a bracket Chad had fabricated so that we could use the jacks as a jackstand. This setup worked fairly well. :thumbsup
http://i395.photobucket.com/albums/pp37/macdctr/Jack.jpg
http://i395.photobucket.com/albums/pp37/macdctr/JackStand.jpg

The install was fairly straight forward except that Chad and I were trying to figure out if the curved portion (below the ball) faced the rear or front. We determined that for proper engagement the curved portion faced the rear and the hook part where the selector rod connected faced forward. Everything felt good when we connected the shift lever that way. Neutral lined up center.

The hardest part of this install was trying to get the clip back on the selector rod (shown in the below pic by the yellow arrow). Man was that a real PITA....it was easier to have me shine the light on the selector rod where the clip went so that Chad could see it from below when he clipped it back in place. It took us awhile but with patience, we managed to get everything put back together. :thumbsup
http://i395.photobucket.com/albums/pp37/macdctr/Shifterclip-1.png

The pic below shows gear engagement with the OE ZHP shift lever in 2nd gear

BMW Performance SSK for 330 in 2nd gear

Here's another angle of the Performance SSK in 2nd gear
http://i395.photobucket.com/albums/pp37/macdctr/IMG_4790.jpg

Impressions:
During my drive back from Chad's (~ 90 miles), I got to go through the gears and found that going between the gears with the Performance SSK was smooth and the throws shorter when selecting 2nd, 4th, and 6th gears. Just like what Dalton had noted, which is why I chose this shift lever. With the price of the shift lever being $56...I couldn't pass on this and feel that this is a "best bang for the buck" shift lever if you are looking for something shorter than OE but not highly aggressive. I didn't notice any notching feeling when engaging any gear and actually enjoyed the shorter throw of the new shift lever.

My final thoughts on using the BMW Performance SSK is that if I was asked "Would I do this again?" My answer would be a resounding " YES :biggrin "

Now to get that Sprint Booster and do the "Sport" button mod!!! ;)

johnrando
08-27-2012, 07:14 AM
It's very straightforward. The problem is, I can't remember it without doing it again. So, this will be at a high level - by no means is it a step-by-step.

You pop up the gear shift "cover", then there are 4 screws to take that lower center console part out and clear the center. This allows you to get to the panels, etc. I'm unclear as to the order next but these are some of the general steps. (There are 4 torx screws on the underside that you need to remove on one of the pieces.) It helps if you disconnect all the plugs, but they are color/shaped matched so no issues putting them back in the right place. Then you can slide two non-marring tools in each side to slide the HVAC panel out. Once all that is done, you have access to the button panel, which you again just remove by pulling forward, and unplugging the cables (again color/size matched).

I'll reiterate that it's very straight forward, you are basically removing obvious stuff in front of the button panel. The only two things I'd consider tricks are the torx screws underneath the console piece and the fact that you need to slide out the HVAC panel by getting a non-marring tool (or a screwdriver if you're brave) by putting the tool to each side of that panel to pry/slide.

William wsmeyer might have more detail. Plus, you can call me, my info is in the members only section but I think you already have my #.

Today I was given an Euro LCM with s/w 4.5 for helping Steve remove the tamper dot off of his old 325i for a friend of his. It was my pleasure to help out a friend and I made a new friend as a result.....a win :thumbsup

When I arrived at another friend's house this afternoon, I swapped out faceplates and put the Euro LCM faceplate on my installed LCM. Had some functionality but from what I have heard, the manual leveling won't work on cars that have auto leveling feature so I won't look into this right away to verify....the rear fogs somewhat work so I will continue to do research and see if I can get something I would like from this part..;)

Today I deleted my headlight washers...still need to recode my car to complete my mod :thumbsup

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/10/14/7egedype.jpg

Started off with plugging the headlight washer pump output but accidently pulled the headlight washer pump out draining my washer fluid reservior...that part sucked...

I will need to refill my headlight washer :(

All I had to do was plug the reservior and disconnect the washer hoses from the headlight assemblies and replace the lower headlight trim. That was it.

Why didn't you just remove the whole pump and plug the gap with the existing rubber o-ring and a plug? Seems a little cleaner than the method you chose.

Why didn't you just remove the whole pump and plug the gap with the existing rubber o-ring and a plug? Seems a little cleaner than the method you chose.

Actually Justin, the "cleaner" way would be getting a new washer reservior that doesnt have a hole for headlight washer pump then I wouldn't have to go this route to begin with.

By the time I was done doing BP's headlights and then doing mine, I was pooped so decided to go this route... overall still decent and I didn't have to buy a new reservior.

Replacing my passenger's side headlights (non-cold weather package headlights) forced me to pursue a headlight washer delete course for the time being. I still have everything so in the future when I can source the "proper" passenger's side ZKW headlight assembly, I can restore everything back to OE...

cakM3
10-17-2012, 06:16 AM
Today I picked up a new voltage regulator and passenger's side headlight lens for my ZHP. Planning to replace my voltage regulator over the weekend so no more alternator whine....:)

cakM3
10-27-2012, 12:05 PM
It seems that some E46 models built in 2003 have a 120-amp alternator more commonly associated with the Z4, making it rather difficult to find the relevant VR. If your alternator has the oval electrical connector/plug noted above on the rear of the alt., then you need the VR with Bosch part number F00MA45219. (The 2nd & 3rd being "digit zero," not "letter O.") That number is not easy to come by -- make a note of it if you have the relevant alternator.

I found this out after trying to order a new voltage regulator using the VIN from my ZHP which resulted in this part (note the rectangular socket on the voltage regulator)
http://i395.photobucket.com/albums/pp37/macdctr/Screenshot2012-10-27at33927PM.png

After doing some more research, it became apparent that perhaps my Bosh alternator was for another type of car so I did some searching and found this link which seemed to answer my question concerning my dilemma...

http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=583423&page=6 (http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=583423&page=6)

When I looked at my alternator this is what it looked like.

The plug from my car (D-shaped not rectangular)

The BOSH label on the alternator

The original Voltage Regulator on the alternator
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/10/28/aqaqejyn.jpg

Ordered the part using the p/n highlighted in red (above) and got this part
http://i395.photobucket.com/albums/pp37/macdctr/Screenshot2012-10-27at33958PM.png

Here's my new part ;)
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/10/28/e7eby7em.jpg

Going to swap out my failing VR tomorrow with BP's help and all should be good until I replace my fuel pump as a preventive issue...;) With all this work I have put into my ZHP...my car is starting to get all sorted out from previous ownerships.....a relief on my part...:thumbsup Getting there!!! :)

At 132,115 miles, I'm now getting to the replacement of my 2003 OE BMW battery with a NAPA equivelant :)
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/11/08/emy6a6y8.jpg

The install took less than 5 minutes and the battery vent from the OE battery transferred easily onto the new battery. Even the Positive terminal cap transferred over. Very easy swap and I know I have at least 5 more years of troublefree battery life as long as I don't do anything stupid...:)

I did run diagnostics after returning from work and checked my alternator. The alternator checked out and the diagnostic showed a cam sensor fault which was cleared. Yesterday after my interesting incident, I have not experienced any other issues. This morning's drive was uneventful and the car was like her old self again :) I will be looking for codes again after work just to make sure nothing else has come up...

Meh...the weave on the inlet snorkel is smaller than the engine covers and in my opinion, covering things in the engine bay with CF that's not really made out of CF or serves a useful weight saving purpose is tacky.

I do like the engine beauty covers though!

cakM3
11-10-2012, 04:24 AM
Justin, I'm not sure if I will install the snorkel but the other two covers will go on. It is purely eye-appeal not functional. I have installed plenty functional mods already. http://i395.photobucket.com/albums/pp37/macdctr/ScreenShot2012-11-22at122559PM.png

http://i395.photobucket.com/albums/pp37/macdctr/ScreenShot2012-11-22at122746PM.png

http://i395.photobucket.com/albums/pp37/macdctr/ScreenShot2012-11-22at122735PM.png

Everything seems to be straightforward though so I just need to set aside some time to do this right. Once I figure out the "glue" then I will go to Home Depot to get the rest and begin this project in a few weeks when I have some time aside from my college work...;) I hope to have the same exact results as John has in his ZHP :) Yeah....I think I will be getting this installed long before I have my carbon fiber engine covers done...:)

Should be lots of fun!!!

Yeah, I re-read the Sport Button Mod thread and it is JB Weld....apparently it has more of the black substance added to it to get it to that color...that can easily be done...:thumbsup

BP, the reason you remember JB Weld being grey is because I didn't use as much black when I made my batch....I used more hardener in my mix so that it would set quicker, hence the grey color...

Now to get the wire and heat shrink to start my Sport Button mod...;)

Sweet! I was kinda wondering what wires you used....I have lots of network cabling laying around my place which means I have plenty of wiring to use :) The only question is how do you determine which led is which (Green and Red)?

Instead of figuring out what color each was and which side was anode/cathode I used a Sharpie to mark the top of one and the left side of the other and took a picture before I removed them from the SB board. Then just referred to the pic to wire them back up correctly in their new location.

Tonight I decided to begin my Sport Mod project. Got part way there...now waiting for the JBWeld to harden up so I can complete the sport button mod portion....overall not too hard of a project but we'll see when I go to hook everything up over the weekend...:)

Here are a few pics of the project I started...:thumbsup

Starting with my Sprint Booster
http://i395.photobucket.com/albums/pp37/macdctr/SprintBooster01.jpg

The part from my Sprint Booster kit before I molested it for the Sport Button mod...;)
http://i395.photobucket.com/albums/pp37/macdctr/SprintBooster02.jpg

I used a small jewler's flat-blade screw driver to pry the backing off of the Sprint Booster switch enclosure...just take your time when doing this so you don't damage anything...
http://i395.photobucket.com/albums/pp37/macdctr/SB04.jpg

the switch assembly taken apart to allow access to components to be taken out...
http://i395.photobucket.com/albums/pp37/macdctr/SB05.jpg

My sport button taken from the panel switch assembly...
http://i395.photobucket.com/albums/pp37/macdctr/Sport01.jpg

Sport Button taken apart...there are fragile components so when taking this switch apart, take your time and do things slowly....:eeps
http://i395.photobucket.com/albums/pp37/macdctr/Sport03.jpg

Then I took the led and switch off of the sport button circuit card. These components are small so adequate lighting should be used with the proper tools or you risk damaging this circuit board. Patience and use of the right tools will allow you to take these components off easily :thumbsup
http://i395.photobucket.com/albums/pp37/macdctr/ScreenShot2012-12-06at70530PM.png

I had to look over John's DIY a few times to make sure I was positioning the two (Green/Red) LEDs properly. Wasn't too hard to do...Like William, I marked one of the LEDs with a sharpie.
http://i395.photobucket.com/albums/pp37/macdctr/Sport06.jpg

The sprint booster switch assembly with LEDs and switch removed...
http://i395.photobucket.com/albums/pp37/macdctr/SB09.jpg

I then wired up the sprint booster switch assy just like William did for John's mod...
http://i395.photobucket.com/albums/pp37/macdctr/SBSwitch.png

Mine looks like this after shrink wrapping :thumbsup
http://i395.photobucket.com/albums/pp37/macdctr/SB10.jpg

Tomorrow I will check my sport button to make sure all components are set when I get home from work and begin final wiring and put everything together...
Going to follow William's example and wire mine up exactly the same way...
http://i395.photobucket.com/albums/pp37/macdctr/SportButtonCkt.png

When I put everything together after doing this mod I plan to route the internals this way...

When you have it in either sport or race mode and then turn off the car, does it remember the setting next time you start it? Would be nice if it recalled the previous setting all the time. :)

As for doing the procedure, yes... I'm taking my time and realized your way was more desirable for me....I really love the idea of OEM look....will be happy to help you with your mod when I get mine done :thumbsup

From what I have gathered the "red" LED is the one closest to the switch, which is where I put my OEM LED at, and the "green" LED is the outboard one...here is how my "modded" sport button now looks. Just applied the new LEDs into that position and will finish it off tomorrow morning after the JBWeld hardens...

That would be okay as well Jon....all comes down to preference...although the Green/Red is what comes with Sprint Booster and it is nice the way John has his in his ZHP... I really liked jayjay's comment going with OEM colors (Green/Amber)...so much so that I took my sport button apart (ruined the Sprint Booster Red LED in the process - not on purpose) and replaced them with the OEM Amber/Green. Hopefully I didn't mess anything up in the process otherwise I'll be ordering brand new LEDs....:)

LED's have to be wired in the correct orientation +/-. If you look closely you can see I marked the top of one and the left side of the other so that I wouldn't get them goofed up in their new location.

I assume, since you are replacing them you figured out which side is anode/cathode?

This morning I hooked up my Sprint Booster to the car and connected the modded sport button switch to see how things are working. First I have to say for those who are on the fence of getting Sprint Booster....do it!!! I was blown away by the responsiveness of the gas pedal with Sprint Booster connected. I mean my ZHP is so much more fun to drive in "race" setting but more than adequate in the "moderate" middle setting. I should have done this a long time ago....best $150 I have spent thus far :thumbsup

I have learned that reusing the LEDs are problematic at best...so I will be ordering brand new never used LEDs as spares and eventually redo my sport button. I got the green LED to work but the Amber doesn't....what a bitch... anyway no matter....I will install this as is for the time being so I can have the functionality....BTW... I set up mine so that the Green is my "Race" setting....Green for go...;)

Man!!! I love my ZHP even more now...:biggrin

Okay I today I installed my Sprint Booster/Sport button mod but officially, its not complete. I need to replace the amber LED because it didnt work after I made my connections...getting brand new ones then redoing the switch. I now know how to do this so next time won't be as hard. The switch is fully functional and I am able to see the indication when race mode is engaged (green "go" LED)

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/12/09/by5yta7e.jpg

I tried all three modes and prefer moderate (mode 2) for daily as the throttle response is just right but when going on the onramps...race mode (mode3) is just perfect. My ZHP has much more get up and fly attitude and I now feel as if my car has been completely refreshed:thumbsup

All I need to do now is do the CDV delete and I'll be set till summer when I plan to refresh my suspension with a set of coilovers:biggrin

Interesting consideration, changing the SB's LED colors . . . what color is the OE SPORT button "on" LED? Amber?

I think I'm be in the camp of OE-matching green for "moderate" SB mode & red / amber for "crazy-go-fast" SB mode, since the rest of the buttons (heated seats, HK amp) are green for on & I'd most likely used the "moderate" SB setting daily.

This is not OE so to speak BP....OE Sport button yes, but how it's applied not OE....retrofit therefore button is now integrated with the Sprint Booster button (3 position pushbutton switch). How I'm rigging it when I have more time will be green/amber/off for the three Sprint Booster modes...

Kyle,

I'll be getting the exhaust mounted sometime in spring when the weather is warmer....at least I will have this secured until then...:thumbsup

I've been meaning to get this but when I saw this for sale, like so many other mods I've been doing lately, I couldn't pass on this sale....so I pulled the trigger....yet again!

I just reviewed my project's thread this morning and am blown away with all the mods I've done in the past year to this car....since purchasing it I have gone crazy regarding mods and the bad part is that I'm still going...:) Right now I can immediately see the results of all my work as I'm beginning to enjoy driving my daily driver, especially since my most recent mod...my ZHP finally has pretty much all of the options I would want in an E46 "daily driver".

I'm sure there will be more that I will do such as refreshing my suspension (new coil overs and bushings), getting a limited slip diff (which I really want to do), and ultimately an ESS twin screw.....yes, this is going to happen eventually but at least everything else will already be set.

When I get to installing my UUC Corsa exhaust, I will be taking pics (as usual) of the installation and a video with my impressions. I pretty much know how this exhaust sounds from riding in Wobbie many times. BP has this exhaust, which is what caused me to want it. It is a nice exhaust and at WOT sounds awesome. No noticeable droning while at highway cruising speeds....anyway, I will get to this soon...Thanks again Kyle! :thumbsup

Kyle... I will have to simply add another supercharger (ESS again)... this time to the ///M, that's all :biggrin Having the ZHP as a modded "daily driver" sleeper would be awesome, don't you think? ;)

Having my ///M have obviously driven up my standards towards my ZHP... performance wise... I really love the power and handling of my ///M, which my ZHP lacks so I have been working on that.... I love driving my ZHP though but want the same or similar suspension/handling setup as the ///M and sheer acceleration with a nice exhaust note.

Opportunities BP....that's all I can say....the past two months have been crazy regarding opportunities for both the ZHP and ///M.....You already know that I'm taking full advantage where my BMWs are concerned...:thumbsup You know I have been eyeing the UUC Corsa exhaust since you got yours :biggrin

I never said it was a bad idea, did I? ;)

I am absolutely in love with sleeper cars. I'm nervous that it's going to be the same for me Charlie, soon I need to get a DD car and I need something that has power and torque. Boy it's a slippery slope.

Kyle,

I gave up on the slippery slope issue when I got my ///M and am just going with the flow, so to speak ;) Funny part is that once you start....it's very hard to stop, especially when opportunities keep on comming...;) I'm probably a very bad influence on others here since I have been doing so much lately...:biggrin

....and to address your question Kyle, no you never said that it was a bad idea...:) Actually...I have been thinking about what I will do once I finish up my ZHP....it never stops, that's for sure! :thumbsup

Yeah...I plan to get this installed by spring...every time I think I'm set something else comes up....it's like a disease....never gone...;)

When I'm done with my ZHP then I can shift completely over to my ///M for mods....:facepalm

Stromung Exhaust, APEX EC-7 18x9.5 ET 35 or ARC-8 17x9.5 ET35, and some TCK DA Suspension with 400# front and 500# rear springs.

Okay go :)

Ok Charlie, you're just gonna have to bring both Bimmers to SigFest. There's too many new things on both I've gotta see & hear!

If I didn't love my M3 wheels so much, I'd ask santa for these. I love those wheels.

Yeah Ry....it's been crazy how I've been getting these mods for both my BMWs...;) I was thinking of bringing both BMWs down to SIGFest but the problem is getting another person who I trust to drive the ZHP....it can't just be anyone...:) I don't know....maybe I might get someone and end up with both BMWs down there.....now that would be cool...:cool

I love these wheels but between the wheels and the UUC Corsa full exhaust....I'll take the exhaust for my ZHP :thumbsup I can always get the wheels at a later date ;)

Luckily, I have plenty of amber and green LEDs to use...:thumbsup

^^ this caught my attention, lol... save some for me will ya? lol..

my button panel is in transit right now, should be here before the weekend, but since Christmas is just around the corner, I would put
the SportButton mod on hold till next year.

since my SB is on RED 99.9% (like John), i would set up mode2 from green to amber and mode3 from red to green.
