Posted this in the Audio section but haven't gotten a responce yet :( lol so maybe I will have better luck here

Everytime I go over a bump or rail road tracks and I'm listening to a CD the music skips. Does this happen to everyone or is my head unit needing to be replaced??

happens to me on big bumps. also, it is worse when it's a crappy burned CD v. store bought. the cheap CD-Rs tend to skip more easily.

i figure it's just a tradeoff for having a stiff chassis...

no, its a problem with the technology. all decks will do it with enough shaking. get an aux cable and play MP3s

A CD lens cleaner might be worth a shot. You can get them at Best Buy or basically any electronics store. Even cheaper on Amazon.

It has tiny little bristles on a specific track that cleans the CD player's lens. It worked for me on my PS2 back in the day when it started having a lot of trouble reading DVDs, and it's so cheap that it wouldn't hurt to try.

The CD standard has so much built-in error redundancy that generally skipping should not be a large problem in cars, especially with all that vibration damping. I personally haven't had a skipping problem with my CDs in any cars that I've had unless the CD is horribly scratched. I mostly had the problem with my CD Walkman when I was a kid. Ahhhhhhhh, good times.

^ i did the same thing to my PS2 back when. haha, funny you mention that.

i also remember the cd walkman issue. the one before anti-skip technology was common. i would have to delicately balance it on my lap in the car or the plane. drove me nuts.

No way, CD>>>>MP3.

The album had a theme, there is a story in there. Not just one mp3 from one group.

The sound is far superior than MP3.

I guess I miss 33s and album art.

I agree, but are the paper cones in our cars really gonna be able to make that difference noticeable? I have 1 cd in my car, but over 11000 songs on my iPod. way easier than carrying a CD case like i used to do

And be done with CDs! :) Besides you have beautiful music without the use of speakers. It's on your right foot!!!
