I frequently will use this to aide in determining offset....

http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/af278/nicee46/Maintenance%20and%20Misc/tech-wheeloffset.gif

II. Here is also a wheel offset calculator.....
http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp

Also another very good resource provided by Eli.....
http://www.willtheyfit.com/

http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/af278/nicee46/Maintenance%20and%20Misc/wheelfitmentpic.jpg

III. Now that we know the above......say I am going to go from the rim I have now.....to a stock style 135. Lets just talk about the rears.
CURRENT: Enkei's are 18X8 with an ET +42 offset.

FUTURE: Style 135's are 18X8.5 (rear) with a ET +50 offset...

IV. Plugging the above values into the calculator in II, above.....it yields the following information:
Inner Clearance: >>>>>>> 14mm's less than my Enkei's from the inside of the wheel to the strut housing.

Outer Position: >>>>>>>>Retract by 2mm's (position of the outside edge of the wheel)

***So....what the above numbers are telling me (in IV, above) are.

I may need spacers, if I do not currently have 14mm's from the edge of the wheel to my strut brace.

Additionally...my tire will still be recessed 2mm's more inside of my wheel well. Close fitment can somewhat be taken care of through the use of a stretched tire, or by adjusting my camber.

EDIT: I will be updating this thread with any good info I find on wheel fitment. Please feel free to add any of the tools, you guys use, to ensure proper stock, or slammed fitment.

rears i'm not worried about. fenders are already rolled. if need be i can probably pull them a bit. tires would probably be 225/40/18. i have coilovers so if i rub bring it up a notch. really wondering about the fronts. if not i can always go say 18x8 et13 or so.

I know nothing about spacers so someone fill me in. I want as wide of a stance as possible with no rubbing or fender modification. Currently I'm on 135's, stock ride height, stock tire sizes. I may upgrade to a H&R sport cupkit sometime next year. What kind of spacers do I need?

15mm's will look good with 255's. Anything bigger...imho...will stick out too far...and will look weird. I got some pics of what 245's look like with 15mm spacers. Just imagine that...but about 5mm wider on the outside edge...

15mm will not work in the back for 255. I had 255 Star Specs with 12mm at stock ride height with 135s and it rubbed a lot. They are closer to 265 width, but I would run 10mm, max 12mm if you want to push it on a normal 255. What is the brand/model of your tires? If you're okay with rolling your fenders, that's another story.

I think there may be some interest in this info about weight saving for wheels, so I'll post it here.

Wrong. I ran my car with DS2s and crappy light-ish tires (~43.5lb each corner) and my fuel mileage improved 2.5mpg and the car was much snapier. The fact that I did not have to get into it with the gas pedal so much every time I stopped I'm sure helped the fuel mileage.

Typically, what you're saying is true, but BMW wheels in general (especially zhp wheels) are piggy heavy; let me lay down some numbers.

OEM ZHP Wheel Weight:

Rear= 28.5lbs x 2
Front= 27.8lbs x 2

Wheel weight= 112.6lbs

Tire Weights (Star Spec)

225/40/18= 25lbs
255/35/28= 27lbs

Tire weight= 104lbs

Total weight= 215.6lbs
Each front wheel= 52.8lbs
Each rear wheel= 55.5lbs

A lightweight setup

Apex ARC-8 18x9" Square= 18lbs each
Wheel weight = 72lbs

Continental DW/Michelin PS2 235/40/18= 22lbs each
Tire Weight= 88lbs

Total lightweight setup= 160lbs
Each wheel/tire= 40lbs

That is a savings of 54.6lbs, or the equivalent of 546lbs off of the car by the most extreme rotational weight calculations.

Lightest setup:

Kosei K1/Apex ARC-8 17x8.5"= 16lbs each
Wheel weight= 64lbs

Michelin PS2 245/40/17= 22lbs each
Tire weight= 88lbs
Each wheel/tire= 38lbs

Total weight = 154lbs

Savings of 61.6lbs, or the equivalent of 616lbs off the car.
I read in a couple places that 100lbs off the car can be a 10th off your 0-60, so potentially this could be up to six tenths off (obviously not), but take that for what you will.

I will add that this cheap setup costs ~$1200 less shipping on tire rack, which is very tempting to me.

Thanks Dane. I did the math by hand and came up with the same thing as the calculations so I should be good. Now I just need to measure the interior to make sure I am not going to rub on the mounts or something.

danewilson77
12-30-2010, 02:37 PM
No.....to make sure your not going to rub on your coilovers/struts/shocks. You can see where your stock tire prolly has at least an inch of clearance in there.........

If the offset moves your tire out.....typically.....you would be fine on the inside....unless you go with a drastically wider rim....

If the offset moves it in....thats where you might need a spacer to kick it out a bit.

jjcools
12-30-2010, 02:55 PM
Yeah, these are wider rims and have a slightly smaller offset so according to calculations it will come in about 6mm and out about 20mm. It should be perfect, I will most likely have to roll the fenders when I get come coilovers.

Just thought id chime in here.... 18 x 9.5 et 40 squared , with 5mm spacer up front. 255/35/18s all around

I dont rub up front AT ALL. as long as your running et 35 or lower, you wont rub the struts with an 18 x 9.5...

You need to be more concerned with rubbing your front fenders pushing out 10mm more than i am. but you should easily clear that with a 225. you might not be able to go as low as youd like though. i say go for it!!! just take the time to make them fit right.

Ok I got majorly distracted by SkrApUNB's pics. I do have a question. So, far I'm really impressed with ECS's products, and a few people in this thread have recommended their spacers. I'm thinking I need a 25mm on the rear, and maybe a 10, 12.5 or 15mm up front. (My set up is 18x8 et 47, square)

These are the spacers I'm used to seeing, a #mm spacer w/ normal lugs just #mm longer that stock.
http://c1552172.cdn.cloudfiles.rackspacecloud.com/114705_x600.jpg

Do these work just as well? They are the only 25mm spacer ECS has. These are H&R brand and to install: spacers bolt to the hub and the wheels bolt to the spacers using your stock lug bolts.

That's what I'm thinking. But on the other hand, isn't H&R reputable? Those spacers are supposed to be for "racing". Would they put out a product that would fail?

Interested in selling the 15mm spacers? I'm not sure if they'd fit though. I'm lowered about 1.5" on the Eibach pro-kit springs. But the tires are stretched a little (225's). Thoughts?

Edit: This is the best pic I've got.

I have 5mm spacers from Macht Schnell, no vibrations, not failure. nothing. Spacers are safe if installed correctly. Personally i thin H&R is a decent Brand, however i dont think id want my wheels bolted to the spacers alone. id rather have an EXT lug. look into the Macht Schnell Spacers... i was recommended them and i have not had an issue with them at all. heres a link for you Ryan http://www.europeanautosource.com/index.php?cPath=67_315_326 no 25mm but they do have a 20mm

I am lowered on Megan Racaing Springs... Stock Non Sport Struts for now. Soon to jump to something that will help lower the front a bit. looking to go about an inch or so lower in the front. I love my rear. just need to roll my fenders and get some spacers thrown on there.

Thanks for the link. I think the H&R's are a no go. I can see how you'd want the front to sit a little low, but IMO you have an excellent stance as is. Are you worried about the front rubbing after you go lower? I definitely don't think the rears need to come out at all, but I'm interested to see the final product.

Well, it looks like I've got a 1-5/16 wheel gap in the rear. So that calls for a 30mm (1-3/16") spacer. Isn't that huge!?!

I've done some reading on the H&R DRA series spacers (you bolt the spacer to the hub and the wheel to the spacer) and it seems that's a lot safer than using a 25mm+ extended lug bolt. Here's a link to H&R's wheel spacers website, http://www.trakplus.com/ for more information and application guides. Just wanted to share that bit of information here.

mimalmo
03-28-2011, 10:31 AM
That doesn't sound right because 30mm is huge. Not saying you are wrong but rarely do I see spacers that large on an E46.

What are the specs on your wheels?
Diameter
Width
Offset

What tires and tire sizes are you using?

This seems to be a good place to post this question.

I'm currently running stock wheel/tire set up on my Sedan. I'm lowered on HSD coilovers and I have slight rubbing against the springs in the front WITH a 5mm spacer. Now I'm considering running a 10mm in the front, but how big of a spacer can I go in the back without rubbing/rolling fenders. I'm also maxed out in the rear, no collars for the spring, and the strut is at its lowest setting.

I just don't want the front wheels to be super aggressive while the rears are sunken in.

danewilson77
06-14-2011, 09:00 AM
We need...

Take a ruler and measure at top of fender. How much room do you have?

I bet you could squeek 5-10mm spacer in back there....but I don't have 135's.....so I'm guessing.

mimalmo
06-14-2011, 09:05 AM
On my winter setup I run a 10mm spacer in front to clear the coilovers and stock offset in back.

You could also try moving your 5mm spacers to the rear as a place to start.

Here's mine with 10mm in front.

I was running a 15mm in the rear with Style 135 in the rear. I rolled the back fenders but seem to rub the left side rear. I switched to a 12mm rear and the problem went away.

First set up was 20mm in the front (no rolling or any problems with the front)
15mm in the rear slight rub nothing that would pop a tire or anything just bothered me to hear it

Second set up
moved 15mm to the front
12mm in the rear no problem with rub

This was with style 135s.

the first set up looked great just had the slight rub. I did this due to wheel rubbing suspension. The second whil not as aggressive still looked really good with no rub.

I had my fenders rolled in the rear.

I have BBS CH replicas 18x9 et 37 in the rear and going to put on 5mm to push them out some more to have the flush look (in the front too).

Depending on your coilovers you need to get the et to 25 (around) in order to eliminate the tire rubbing the spring.

You guys make this stuff way too technical and way too hard on yourselves. I will provide a step by step of the proper procedure.

1. Drop it.

2. Poke it.

3. Stretch it.

4. Roll it.

Done.

and always remember, "It sucks to roll hard."

Haha, Stanceworks motto! I will be going crazy once I save money for the wheels I want, but until then OEM will have to do.

I have about 1/2inch clearance between the bottom of the fender & the top of the tire in the front. The rears are tucking, but the space between the side wall of the tire and the edge of the lip in the rear fender is also about 1/2inch.

danewilson77
06-14-2011, 11:03 AM
OK......so........you can probably fit a 10-12 up front....and maybe a 7-10 in the rear, since you're tucked.

OK......so........you can probably fit a 10-12 up front....and maybe a 7-10 in the rear, since you're tucked.

Which in the world of fitment means you can fit 15mm up front and 20mm in the rear, make some camber adjustments, get a tire that has a slight stretch on it, roll your fenders (possibly a slight pull) and then lower your car another inch and be good.

My specs were

3" drop
19x 9.5 offset 32 wheels
235/35/19s

My car was flush and had a great stance. You couldnt get a babys finger between tire and the wheel well and the well rested 5mm above the rim. This required full dampening on my coils to prevent damage to my wheels on compression.

Point being, just because a book says that something won't fit, or the numbers don't crunch a certain way doesn't mean that it wont. If you want to roll hard, you have to get in there and problem solve to get the fitment you want.

and in regards to the Stanceworks motto, it is actually "Low is a lifestyle".

What tires? You must just barely be rubbing.

Recently I've un 18x8.5 ET38 BBS RCs, 225/40/18 Re760s all around. The front fitment was perfect imo, not too recessed looking but not right to the edge of the front fender. The rear was too inset. By my calculations I could have been running a 10mm spacer without rubbing, maybe even 12mm.

Now I am running my winter setup, staggered style 68s in 17x8.5" rear and 17x7.5" front, with 225/45/17 Blizzak WS70s all round. The stock rear offset is 50 and front is 41. I am running 15mm spacers all around with no rubbing. The front is not rubbing at 17x7.5" ET26 with the 225 tire. Theoretically (I believe) the final offset has more to do with the offset and tire width than the width of the wheel itself. AKA I'm guessing a 17x8" with the same tire probably would not rub. There really isn't any more room though (at least visually), stock camber, Eibach Pro Kit springs and stock fenders.

I think the front is a touch too far out, mostly because with my Pro-Kit springs it's hard to apply the tire dressing! The rear is too far inboard, but no surprise there. It is 17x8.5 ET 35 with the 225 tire, and I think I could probably run another 10mm more spacers in the rear, 5mm more would be comfortable.

here is probably the best picture for ride height. I already rolled the fender and its actually hitting higher up than the fender lip. :(

May be able to squeak in 235's on your next set. I think 225's for first set is smart though.

IIRC, those tires have a rather large shoulder which will cause some rubbing at your ride height. Also, is that toe spec from before or after the car was lowered?

That's not a standard fitment unless you have an E46 M3. It can be done on our cars with rolled fenders, stretched tires and some camber. Not easy but not impossible.

Those are after lowered alignment specs. I'm planning to play around with camber and see what I can do with the factory camber adjustment. If I can, I'll go to -1.8 camber to see if it will help any with the rubbing.

So far ok I did have 1 bump or more like dip that caused pendilum effect and I think both tires hit fender but on you average bump it rode like a champ. I feel sort of uncertain about the driving though I have been driving a civic all week so every thing feels very much more intense. Not to mention I'm obviously nervous about the fitment so give me couple more days to get comfortable with the setup

If you roll the fenders it will give you another 1/2" of slack.

In the last pick....it does look like they'll tuck if needed. I would def roll though.

a nice way to test without going for a drive and/or loading the car is to drive the car up one ramp to squat the rear to see directly where it's hitting. even after rolling I had more issues with the rear part of the splash shield and clip but I have a sedan and know that it's different on a coupe.

Unless I'm thinking of it backwards, a higher offset (like ET45) would need a spacer.

Fender rolling, fender pulling, camber kit, shaving that bolt in the fender liner?

Who here has 19's?

Spring time will (hopefully) bring new rims.

I want BBS LM or BBS CH (OG's if I can find a cheap set), but I can't decide if 18's will look too small. The lip on the LM's seem to make the rims look smaller than they really are. So I was thinking 19's. But with 19's comes added tire costs and rim damage potential. But I think I'd run M3 19" tire specs to beef it up a bit closer to our 18" sidewall size. Thoughts?

Your cracked rim & plan to get the AG M359s had me looking at Tire Rack & trying to figure out what square setup I’d go with; I decided on 245/40s (vs your 245/35s) due to more tires being made in that size (& being marginally cheaper).

I frequently use WillTheyFit.com to test & visualize new wheel & tire combos. One of the most useful sites I’ve ever used!! Those ET35 M359s look like they’ll fit fine & even end up more flush than the OE 135Ms; you probably won’t even need spacers!

Hi guys,

I really like the looks of these wheels but I'm not quite sure they would fit. Any feedback is appreciated

They are the ESR Wheels SR08 Style https://esrwheels.com/products/sr08
I'm looking at getting the 18 x 9.5 with 35 offset for the rears and 18 x 8.5 for the fronts with 30 offset. unfortunately 35 is as high of an offset they carry for this particular wheel. I have stock Sport suspension at the moment. I do t really want to deal with rolling of fenders either. Will these fit?

Thanks guys!

That's really dependent on tire size. Are you planning to use the stock 255's in the rear?

I experienced rubbing with a 15mm spacer in the rear on my OE wheels/tires, effectively pushing them out to et35.

Thanks for the reply, ZHPizza, Yes, i was planning on running 255 x 35 tires on these wheels. It looks like i will have to find another set of 18 x 9.5 with minimum et40 in order for this to work. Too bad, i really like the looks of these wheels.

Thanks for your quick reply though, much appreciated!
