Why have none of us purchased this magical garage accessory yet?

Nice. But if I go for a lift, I'm getting the real thing.

Dane,
It looks like the Costco one is driven by your air compressor whereas the NAPA one has electric drive motors on each post. Also, the Costco one does not have the top horizontal bar and given enough lifts, the vertical posts will want to spread. Then there's the gears and locking mechanisms in the vertical posts, can't tell what the Costco one has but more is better.

I guess what I was implying....is....that they both lift cars....and there's probably 5 levels of perfection...even above the NAPA one.
Good find Ryan.

The NAPA one goes to a full extension of 81" and the Costco is 52". I like to walk under my cars...
The Costco one is still a good deal, though.

If we're talking "real thing" I'm pretty sure BendPak is the end of the discussion.

That costco lift looks like it uses an air over hydraulic power pack. Pretty standard, but yes, lower "tier" of lift. Probably because they're intending for this to be "portable."
You want an electric motor/hydraulic pump and reservoir on the lift. I'm relatively certain all lifts are hydraulic (even the NAPA one), question is just how the hydraulic power is generated.

Looking at the photos, it looks like the posts are still bolted to the floor, so not sure why it's considered portable.
Oh, and it has a Porsche on it, so it must be safe, right... RIGHT!?!? Hah

I'm guessing they actually meant store-able.

It's considered portable because the power unit is on a moveable cart, hydraulic lines are quick connect, the posts have wheels attached for easy movement- it's supposed to be easier to take it down after use for people who don't have the space to permanently mount one.
The portable ones still need to be bolted down when used for safety reasons.
This is sold by Northern Tools as well and gets great reviews on both sites.
Just sayin.

Not everyone had 16 foot ceilings in their garage. The Costco one is designed to fit with an 8 foot ceiling.

Yeah, don't get me wrong, I was looking at it and thinking it's actually a cool product, was just curious how portable it was. Hell, even at the lowered height, you should be able to maneuver around on a short stool on wheels.
