Spare Tires

Are these tires good enough to be used as spares instead of the donut that we (well, I do) have? No rubbing with calipers or fenders. Knowing we have 18". Thanks.

Not sure I understand the question. Sounds like you're asking about the tires alone. But you acknowledged that the ZHP has 18"'s, yet these are 16"/17"'s. Are you asking about using the wheels and tires as a winter setup?

Good question on offset. What are the offsets that would fit on the ZHPs? These wheel & tire setup will be used as spare tire only. The 16" came from a 2000 E46 323i. Offsets unknown. 17" 5series, offsets unknown. Will follow-up though.

Check the Tire for manufacture date and insure that they aren't dry rotting. Main problem on old tires

I found that a 225mm tire is too wide to fit in the spare tire well. I am pretty sure a 195 would have fit, and probably a 205.

On top. That's why I called it a "cover". It stuck up to far to let the trunk floor sit all the way flat.

Could somebody decifer if this wheel says anything useful as a spare? I see 8J X 18 EH2. Is that the offset? I saw the same on out Type 138s. Not sure if I have the right wheel for the ZHPs. So correction is required. Thanks.

sidewalls, additional reinforcing strips and rubber mixtures
which remain stable at high temperatures. These enable
you to continue driving at a maximum of 80km/h for a
limited distance with the tyre deflated.

EH2 rims:
The special EH2 rims mean the RSC tyre can’t come off
the rim even in the event of a sudden pressure loss. This
adds up to considerably greater safety, particularly when
driving at speed and on a winding road. EH2 rims can
also be driven with “normal” tyres, although in this case
they do not offer the same level of safety as when fitted

Oh. All I can tell is it's 18 x 8, which we know fits, and J is a standard designation, so that's OK. No idea what the offset is. Any other markings on the wheel?

You need to provide more info. What style wheel is it?

Unfortunately, that was what I kept asking the seller and there are no markings for any "ET" (offset). All he can say is that it came from an E46. I will tell him to re-send a photo of the fronts so I can tell what is the style.

Here is the photo that the seller provided. It looks like an E46 M3 wheel to me. True? If it is, then it is a compatible spare tire for the trunk.

On phone, definitely a m3 style wheel. Depending on offset and if it was a staggered setup it should be a good spare but might not fit fronts depending

I think ET 47 will work on a stock setup. Now do the calcualtion to make sure. Then you're golden.

If you're willing to do some bottom trolling in the world of illiteracy (a.k.a. craigslist), you'll find plenty of BMW Style 68M wheels. What you want to fit the trunk is the 17x7.5" wheel. These are the wheels from the E46 330 ZSP Sport Pkg but they are a staggered setup. The 8.5" rear wheel may not fit in the spare cavity but the 330 ZSP, at least once upon a time, came with the 7.5" version as a full-size spare and therefore fits.

DW has a 8 X 18 on his trunk. See Post 11. Am I missing something here?

It appeared you were looking for a viable full size spare wheel. I suggested an OE BMW wheel that is known to fit and fairly easy to find. Am I missing something here?

Ok....so the new wheel is 18x8 ET47.

The wheels you have, I am assuming are Style 135's 18x8 or 8.5 (front/rear) with a ET 47/50 front/rear.

Dude...that rim is perfect as a spare and matches identically the specs of the fronts you have.

Thanks. Wasn't thinking about the ET from RealOEM. Seller willing to let go for $80. Now, I need to set up a time to meet halfway between San Diego & LA.......Have already mapped out that San Clemente would be the halfway point.

Got it....Will eventually replace the tires. Lots of good tires in the market with still a lot of meat left for sale. Bears Tires comes to mind....
