I am wondering if there is such a thing like a cap at the shafts end of the pulley that protects the thread of the water pump? Any body know the size of thread for the shaft? It is a left hand thread.

I've never seen one.

I believe it is reverse thread, iirc from my auto days.

Can anyone confirm?

It must be the engineer in me....any exposed thread had to be preserved.

preserved for what? threads aren't used if you've got the e-fan. My vote would be to let them be.

trying to track down a ~20mm reverse thread nut is going to be more trouble than its worth.

could maybe find a used fan in a junkyard and slice the coupling nut off. probably the easiest and cheapest.

but still, my vote is to just let it be.

You're right. Just let it go. More headaches.

Don't forget to put anti-seize before installing the cap nut.
