View Full Version : Affiliate Advertising Links and Sponsors -- and the ZHPMafia.com annual meet

Now that we're alone, I thought this might be a good time to talk about our affiliates and sponsors.
First, this site is primarily supported by commissions that I receive from affiliate advertisers. If you guys shop with our advertisers, we are compensated. Still, not everyone understands that we only get credit for the sale when you use our links here at the site to initiate your shopping. The links, found on this page here (http://www.zhpmafia.com/forums/showthread.php?229-List-of-Affiliate-Advertisers-at-ZHP-Mafia), are coded with tracking information. If you go to Amazon.com, for example, by using a properly encoded link, Amazon.com recognizes that you came from ZHPMafia.com. We'll get credit with any purchase you make.
However, if a member just throws a random Amazon.com link on the forum (and I have not coded it), ZHPMafia.com doesn't receive anything for the sale. By the way, I typically follow behind you guys and recode your Amazon.com links so that we do receive credit if someone does click the link and by something. Still, to be sure, you can always use our affiliate link page.
Going forward, I will code links whenever possible. I already do it for eBay links you guys plop in. I can only do this, though, because Amazon.com and eBay.com have provided tools so that I can code for a specific product. Most affiliates only allow me to provide a link to their home page.
I know that we all shop with many of our affiliates. However, most of you do not use the links at our site to do it. As a result, our affiliate advertising often does not cover the bills for our site. Most of the time it does, though.
Therefore, if you have benefited from your membership here at ZHPMafia.com, and feel like supporting the site, please consider using our affiliate links. For those who already do use our links, thank you. It's appreciated.
As for our sponsors, we have three of them. Detailer's Domain, Casey Withers, and Carbon Effects. These businesses pay us a monthly fee to be here. We don't receive any other kind of compensation from these sponsors. Still, these sponsors are important because they've already made a payment to be here. Their monthly payments are used to support our site every month. Without them, we'd definitely have more monthly shortfalls. (Cobywheel.com, by the way, is an affiliate advertiser. We get a commission when you guys buy something there and mention that ZHP Mafia referred you.)
To reiterate: a sponsor pays a monthly fee to be here. Affiliate advertisers pay us only when you use their links and buy something. Affiliate advertisers get a free ride -- and billboard space here -- when everyone sees their advertising but does not use their links.
Moving on, ZHPMafia.com's annual meet is tentatively scheduled for May 2012. It will be in Virginia (just like last year). Dane will be the point man once again. However, I would like to relieve Dane of any financial burdens this time around. I am waiting for Dane to get back to me on his budgetary needs for the 2012 event. In 2011, the three members of the management team (me, Dane, and Keith) pooled our money together to help make the event happen.
My goal for 2012 is to use the commissions that we get through our affiliate advertising to pay for the annual event. At this point, though, there is no way that we could do it. We don't utilize the links enough to do it. So, besides helping pay for the monthly bills around ZHPMafia.com, I'd also like to use the commissions to pay for the annual meet in Virginia. This just gives you guys more of an incentive to use the links (http://www.zhpmafia.com/forums/showthread.php?229-List-of-Affiliate-Advertisers-at-ZHP-Mafia).
As always I appreciate all of your support -- whether it be financial or otherwise.
Thanks.

Ahhh...you got jokes today. Good. Hehe......that's for sure.....but I will tell you this.
I would front the entire cost, for these guys, if that's what needed done. That said....I know you and KG wouldn't let me do that.

Done and Done...To clarify.
If I want to hot-link something through Amazon...for example; do I just have to click on the affiliate link, find the product then copy and paste that URL to hot-link it, or is it more complex than that?

Just follow the link to Amazon, from here, then make your purchase.

I understand that...but I'm saying like trying to guide someone through the link if I mention it on the forum.
For example, for detailedimage...I'd like to mention the products with a hot-link rather than just saying "Dodo Juice...." for example. I noticed that my mentions were indeed changed, I just want to see if that's the correct procedure.

Ahhh...ok. Just refer them to the affiliate page. We have discussed before and I do not think there is an easy way to hot link to the affiliate.

It's more complex than that. I am the only one who has the tools to code the link with our ID number. Therefore, going through the main affiliate page here at ZHPMafia.com is the best way to do it.

Unlimited, automatic backup with anytime, anywhere access. $59/year.

I used autohausaz yesterday and wow they are some of the best people I have dealt with in awhile. I got all my questions answered. They were not real jerks but really like talking to most of the members here. Kinda different experience from what normally goes down when purchasing parts.
I will be using them a lot more to order up parts and of course through the site.

You guys bought enough stuff from Amazon.com alone this month (only 14 days through the month; today doesn't count) to already pay for the server.
I will be using the excess $$ (above the server cost) to buy some more ZHPMafia.com stickers. I will be giving them away for free. Will only be doing them in brushed aluminum, which I think looks the best. Always keeps it simple for those of us distributing the stickers.
Finally, Dane and Keith (moderators supreme) will be helping me with the funding on the stickers.
Give those guys a round of applause for always going above and beyond the call of duty around here.

Also, thanks to the person who bought tires from Tirerack.com (http://www.dpbolvw.net/click-4193730-10549527) yesterday. Much appreciated.
I've been working on getting a ZHP Mafia-branded Tirerack.com store but we don't buy enough stuff from there (my last request was denied; not enough purchases).

11-26-2011, 08:12 PM
Boss, keep us in the loop on the tirerack. Purchase enough tires over there anyway, (just recently for a truck..) and would really like to see it support the family! Use the link above until they allow a ZHP branded store?
Marcus-SanDiego
11-26-2011, 09:43 PM
Bottom line is that we don't buy enough tires from tirerack.com using the affiliate link on our site. Until we do, we are not getting a ZHP Mafia branded page. So, yeah, buying more tires using our link will be the only way to make it happen.
Thanks for your support regardless.

Any chance of adding Pelican Parts as an advertiser? They have a wide selection of parts with different manufacturers, all clearly identified, at good prices with prompt shipping. In my past E36 life, nearly all of my online BMW purchases have been between them and AutohausAZ. All my recent purchases have been through the Mafia link to Autohaus, but another option may be nice for the times they don't have something. Thanks

Dumb question, but if I click on a link to say AutoHausAZ or HarborFreight, then go through a bunch of pages and maybe log in under my old username there, does ZHPMafia still get the commission? I just tired the affiliate link to AutoHausAZ, and when I first went over there the URL contained a reference. But after I started clicking on products, the URL seemed to loose the reference. Will the site still remember and give credit when I buy something?

Yep. I suspect the site puts a tracking cookie on your computer. Even though the link loses the reference after a click, it still remembers that you came from here.

Yeah. I have friends doing the same thing. One thing I've learned, though: you must jump to the affiliate sites from a link here at the site. It's not enough to bookmark the site and jump straight to it from your browser. You've got to come to the site first before you jump to the affiliate link. We have not been getting credit for purchases when people put an affiliate link in their bookmark and use it that way.
FYI.

Thanks for the answers, all! Just placed my first ZHP Mafia affiliate order from AutoHausAZ. I specifically clicked their link from the sponsor thread then added the items to my shopping cart. Planning to replace the shift selector rod joint to see if that reduces shifter slop. Maybe take the shifter and shift carrier out while I'm at it to see how hard it would be to install a SSK myself. Added cabin microfilter and quart of oil to get to the free UPS ground shipping threshold.
