Not sure if it's the proper color designation, but in any case it looks like it could be a good get. It would be nice to have the maintenance records available for the car with that mileage.

according to Autocheck, it's a 2 owner vehicle with a recent accident (8/1/11) listed as a collision with an animal. that's a very appealing price too.

at least we are getting closer to Denver. If anyone can get more info on this, it could be a nice find. skeptical per the autocheck. The drivers door looks like it has a larger gap, but maybe it's just not closed all the way.

I might be down in that area tonight. Anyone want me to look at anything specific for them?

if you have a good idea of how to assess this car and looking at the overall condition, I'm new here and do not have a zhp yet, so I would have to rely on a first once over and then if it appears to be a decent car, follow up with a detailed ppi

I'd be more than happy to swing by (if it's still open when I get down there tonight) and ask him about the collision with the animal, what maintenance might have been done on the VANOS and cooling systems. What maintenance records he has for the car period. Check out the interior, wear and tear on the alcantara, engine bay, etc... The least I could do would be to gather some more information for you to help you decide if you want a PPI on it or not.

I was able to scope out the car and here is what I found:

http://i1181.photobucket.com/albums/x428/dcrider48/2004%20ZHP%20FS/101211181407.jpg

I am not sure what this wiring is all about. There was no amp or subwoofer in the trunk. None of the tools were in the tool set either. The spare tire was there.

http://i1181.photobucket.com/albums/x428/dcrider48/2004%20ZHP%20FS/101211181254.jpg

As you can see here, the exhaust has been replaced with some aftermarket job It didn't look like the BMW sport exhaust either.

The tires on the back axle were almost useless. He had some BF Goodrich tires, but they are almost completely smooth in the middle. Those would have to be replaced immediately.

There was cracking like this throughout the front tires. They were Nexex N7000's. I would also replace those asap.

Yea, speaks for itself.

The bright spot on this car is the engine bay appeared to be in good order. It was clean and everything seemed to be in order. It appeared to have a K&N CAI.

It was apparent when I opened the door that this car has been neglected during it's life. (A real shame). There are parts/accessories missing as you can see in the photo from the rear seats along with the center console looks pretty beat up.

It did indeed look like a ZHP, but If it were me, I would hold onto my money and look for something much, much better. The salesman couldn't give me any maintenance history at all and told me the front headlight assembly had to be replaced as a result of hitting a deer, I think he said. He said nothing mechanical had to be replaced.

If you want my opinion, stay away from this car. The shift knob was a 5 speed generic thing. There was goo in the center console, no tools in the trunk, the salesman also told me one of the windows wasn't working. I didn't even ask to take it for a spin because it was in such disrepair. He also mentioned some guy from Elko was interested in the car. I don't know if there really is or not, but I can't imagine coming from out of state for a car in this kind of condition unless he wanted to turn it into a track star.

Sorry this is bad news, but the good news is you won't have to waste your time or money on a PPI for it. Good luck with the search!

Nice work. Thanks for doing this. I would keep looking, too. The car is beat up.

But.......on the flip side...all of those are relatively minor fixes, and good discussion points to drive price to <$10k....

Good point. If anyone wants the salesman's number, I've got it at home. I could post it later tonight.

No doubt. If someone is looking for a project, this could be it. Never know what else a PPI might find, too.

I could see making an offer at below $10K.

Thank you very much for the taking all the trouble to look at it and post the pictures with your thoughts. You are indeed a stellar member of the family and have set a high bar with respect to selfless service you can offer to strangers. Thanks again. :)
