Since it has been getting cold up here in New Cow Hampshire when I go to back out of my driveway or turn into a parking space there is a very loud clunking or rubbing sound from the front of the car. It seems to just do it when the car is cold and sometimes will do it when it's mid 50s to 60s. I've checked all the splash panels and engine shielding which all seem to be fastened to the car. I've posted this over on the two "other" forums.
Could this be the double joint steering coupler #2?

I would have guessed bushings but basically only doing it when cold kinda throws me off. When were the CABs changed?

CABs, control arms, tie rods, and inner balljoints changed a month ago.

I thought I recalled that those were done on your car. Hope you find your answer.

My E30 clunks when I turn it a certain direction. It's the steering knuckle binding.

Apparently the powerflex CABs are pulling out of the brackets. So I'm going to replace those with OEMs.

Does it do it all the time or when it's cold outside? Like this morning mine didn't do it at all. Yestersday it would creak everytime I turned the steering wheel.

It would clunk mostly in the cold or extreme heat. Also, my CABs creak in the front of my E30.

I looked up the cost for the knuckle which is $181.00 from BMW. I wonder if it's something I can replace or would I have to have my indie replace it?

I had a clunking after I replaced my suspension,, an it turned out that I did not tighten the tie rod at the upper mount enough and it was loose. Tightened it back and have had no more probelms. Hopefully yours is that simple.
