View Full Version : Noob Questions: 004 of 100 - Contemplating 'Lumma Design UK' STW Rear Wing Spoiler on a '06 330ci M-Tech ZHP (e46)

:hi Sooo, I'm fairly new to ZHP Mafia, and mechanical performance mod's in general.
This question pertains to adding a 'Lumma Design UK' STW Rear Wing Spoiler on my Sparkling Graphite Metallic '06 330ci M-Tech ZHP (e46).
I share in the opinion of most nearly everyone that adding a rear spoiler on a BMW is slightly ludicris and sometimes just plain lame, but I think I've found one that fits well on our BMW's (because it's designed for BMW's new X6M).
However, I'm just not sure if I like the high-profile tall-look of it. I'm going to proposition 'Lumma Design' to build a lower-profile version, and maybe they'd even consider doing group-buys if anyone else would be interested.
So my question is.. is this particular spoiler too ricey, just right as-is, or only a good addition in an extremely lower-profile version?
Also, if I go through with it, I'd most likely paint it to match the car as well.
I'll welcome any advice and experiences, good or bad, to help me make the right decision!

Not for the sake of hating. But I do hate it. It's not my car, though.
If you like it, rock it!

There is a lower profile spoiler that looks good with the car BTW. I'm not sure this one does it for me, looks good from the side in the pic but not from the rear, seems a little high and and a little "too much" IMHO. To me, it screams "add-on", but not integrated with the flow of the car and not functional.... but absolutely your car, your choice. We don't hate on family cars here.

I'm in the "function over form" camp 100%. I'd skip it and save the money for....say....good brake pads, rotors, and fluid. Unless you're tracking hard enough that you need more downforce. But as they say - your car, your money. If you like it, rock it!

If you're set on buying a raised spoiler, go with the M-Clubsport spoiler (part# 51717895560)

^^ I have seen that spoiler in person. It's too square on the ends for my tastes. Very blocky.

which one are you referring to Boss?
just looked at my car vs ecs, realized its not the same lip spoiler.

The ECS spoiler, which is $30. It's blocky looking. James (ZSP-Mafia) has it.

Yes the one in the link above isn't the OEM spoiler lip, it's an ECS re-creation.
For me I like the stock lip spoiler and maybe a very low-profile spoiler but definitely not a high-profile spoiler. Just my taste though

ECS used to have an OEM spoiler I thought. I don't see it anymore. I like the one on Gary's (SD) car.
EDIT: Just checked, no OEM one. Anyone know where to get the OEM one?

Lumma Design responded with this one at a price of £345 GBP ($533.00). Also, for a group-buy of 5, they'll do 5% off. For a group-buy of 10, 10% off.
Now I just need to figure out if they have a local distributor, estimated shipping costs and we might have a bargain on our hands, since the wing retails at $855.00.

If we get 100, will they give us 100% off?

Yeah, this idea pretty much had a heart-attack when you mentioned the 'Clubsport' model above, and then finally died on the operating table when the distributor said.. 'this is an aftermarket item but is similar to the clubsport wing'..
"NEXT!"

Think I found one extremely close to OEM if it's not. I think this is the one I bought.

Maybe I should have been more specific. I'm looking at the Clubsport-style wing, not the OEM-style lip. sorry for the confusion.

I don't think we were confused. I think most WANT you to get lip over wing.

OP, I assume you already have the lip spoiler and want a change. Is that the case?

Already have the lip, but since it's nearly unnoticible, I feel like my ass-end is naked. So I may go with a wing (a VERY low-profile un-ricey one at that) just to dress up the back end a tad.

not a fan of spoilers on cars (even STI's and EVOs) and definitely none in this thread (aside from the truck lid lip that comes stock).
if you're tracking it and need the downforce or just like the way they look, do it up. it's your car, make yourself happy.

STI & EVO have ugly spoilers anyways...
So if you could have this as a street car you would say no spoiler? (M3 GTS)

unfortunately, yes. just a opinion of mine. i'm sure the OP will make a good decision and put a spoiler on his car that looks good and that he likes. which is really all that matters. he seems to have a good grasp of what he wants, so i hope he finds something that fits his style and taste.
i'm assuming here that if i could afford that car i could afford to take the spoiler off.
of course if i were racing my car on a track and the spoiler was functional, then that's a different story. but, for every day driving i'm not a fan.

I'd do a CSL trunk before a spoiler.
